Society: The World In Which We Live is a Self-Help Philosophical mix where it goes into my take on the world, but it highlights human behavior, education, and the business world. Now, this is where a fair amount of people stop; what can this author know about business that other books don't have? They do not have my perspective, I do not go as in-depth as what to invest in or direct patterns, but it highlights concepts; as to how and why the world works. If you never understand the problem, how can you hope to fix it? This book identifies issues and solves the common issues, but if you want to learn the most, look at what it does not say; everything is there for a reason. Maybe you need to watch a show twice to understand something in the plot thoroughly; this book is the same way. It's made to break and rework your sense of self, make you think about your reasons, and truly understand that you are indeed the sum of your choices.

Society-A Complex Adaptive System aims to re-establish a firm scientific foundation for contemporary sociology, incorporating current extensions to a systems approach, such as complex adaptive systems and aspects of contemporary dynamic systems theory. The essays brought together to form this volume address general problem areas in basic theory and methodology. The work then develops to focus on the more empirically relevant core of social theory-socio-cultural regulation and control-with concern for adaptive structure changing and structure conserving aspects. In addition, the book is focused on dynamic processes rather than static structural or functional concepts.

Problem-solving courts are special courts that do not simply punish offenders, but use other justice principles—like therapeutic jurisprudence and restorative justice—and psychology principles—like anticipated emotion, operant conditioning, and social support—to address underlying social issues that contributed to the crime. The U.S. has numerous types of problem-solving courts, such as drug courts, mental health courts, and homelessness courts. Other countries do not have such courts, have altered versions, or have courts for other issues, like aboriginal courts. Comparison of these courts worldwide shows that many societies address their social issues through courts in dramatically different ways than do problem-solving courts in the U.S. Society, Science, and Problem-Solving Courts takes a broad social science approach to explain what societal factors brought about development of the wide variety of problem-solving courts, and what factors prevent such development or make problem-solving courts unnecessary. The book also investigates the role of science and technology in the development, enforcement, and evaluation of problem-solving courts. It is this combination of society and science that makes problem-solving courts possible.
Instead of considering society as a social environment, Society in the Self begins from the assumption that society works in the deepest regions of self and identity, as expressed in phenomena like self-sabotage, self-radicalization, self-cure, self-government, self-nationalization, and self-internationalization. This leads to the central thesis that a democratic society can only function properly if it is populated by participants with a democratically organized self. In this book, an integrative model is presented that is inspired by three versions of democracy: cosmopolitan, deliberative, and agonistic democracy, with the latter focusing on the role of social power and emotions. Drawing on these democratic views, three levels of inclusiveness are distinguished in the self: personal (I as an individual), social (I as a member of a group), and global (I as a human being). A democratic self requires the flexibility of moving up and down across these levels of inclusiveness and has to find its way in fields of tension between the self and the other, and between dialogue and social power. As author Hubert Hermans explains, this theory has far reaching consequences for such divergent topics as leadership in the self, cultural diversity in the self, the relationship between reason and emotion, self-empathy, cooperation and competition between self-parts, and the role of social power in prejudice, enemy image construction, and scapegoating. The central message of this book is reflected in Mahatma Gandhi's dictum: "Be the change you want to see in the world."
