Whitney Lane (get it?) is a woman with some extra curves, a big heart, who exudes sex appeal and sass. She has been doing naughty to fill a void that continues to grow, until, Brad. Brad sweeps Whitney off her feet. But as always, this sort of thing comes with a catch. . . Whitney is thrusted into a paranormal world where werebears are after her, a particular wererhino cop helps her out, and all the most amazing fantastical (yet, scientific) instruments the world has to offer have been devised by faeries--Albert Einstein being one of them. This is not your ordinary BBW paranormal shifter romance. This is an adventure, a prelude to a saga that will span generations. Enjoy
In 1942, fourteen-year-old Hank Umemoto gazed out a barrack window at Manzanar Internment Camp, saw the silhouette of Mount Whitney against an indigo sky, and vowed that one day he would climb to the top. Fifty-seven years and a lifetime of stories later, at the age of seventy-one, he reached the summit. Part memoir and part hiker's diary, Manzanar to Mount Whitney gives an intimate, rollicking account of Japanese American life California before and after World War II. As he wanders through the mountains of California's Inland Empire, Umemoto recalls pieces of his childhood on a grape vineyard in the Sacramento Valley, his time at Manzanar, where beauty and hope were maintained despite the odds, and his later career as proprietor of a printing firm, all with grace, honesty, and unfailing humor. And all along, the peak of Mount Whitney casts its shadow, a symbol of freedom, beauty, and resilience.

"By the time the rain turned to snow, my jeans weighed as much as the bear canister sitting upon James' backpack. Unfortunately, the snow was no reprieve from the wetness of the rain. In fact, the snow added another element to our trip. Not only was the trail now mud but the snow made the trail slick. Maybe not for James in his trail rated hikers, but certainly for me in my downtown, Trailgear, Christmas presents. My feet would have been just as protected in the box that housed the shoes. Onward we pressed. The bravado was still strong. We marched up the trail, and I sometimes slid back and marched on again. Besides making the trail slick, another fine attribute of the snow was its ability to accumulate. It amassed on my head, my hands, and my backpack. Rule number 2 was taking a beating. So, like the rain before it, it wasn't too long before I was cursing the snow. Fortunately, like the rain, we didn't have to put up with the snow forever."James Johnson and I, Cameron Williams, decided to test ourselves by entering the woods for a weekend with only what we could carry on our backs. Although, as the above passage depicts, the first test was a complete failure, we were so enthralled by the experience that we decided to try again, and again, and again.....Three years and multiple trips into the woods later, we sat atop the highest mountain in the contiguous United States. This book chronicles our multiple failures, our few successes, and the lessons we learned by trial and error over those three years. This book can and should be used as a backpacking guide as well as a trail guide for some of the most spectacular trails in the western United States. But at it's core, this book is a tale of two average guys that achieved more than they thought they could and along the way, forged an unbreakable friendship.
A nostalgic picture book set in the diverse Cape Breton community of Whitney Pier from the duo behind Mayann's Train Ride, written by Nova Scotia's first Black lieutenant-governor. School is out for the summer, but eleven-year-old Mayann Francis doesn't have much to look forward to. Her two best friends, Eunice and Betty, will be away and her older sister won't let her play on her baseball team, the Hankard Street Crew. But Mayann's parents won't let her feel sorry for herself. They remind her how much she loves to help them cook traditional Caribbean foods. Coo-coo with corn meal, souse made from pig feet, oxtail, fishcake, johnnycake, sugar cake with coconut Her mother also teaches her embroidery -- and it's while stitching a project and watching the HSC play that she gets a great idea that will bring the whole community together, and may just save her summer in the process. One Summer in Whitney Pier is a love letter to the diverse Cape Breton community the Honourable Mayann Francis calls home, and a celebration of breaking bread with your neighbours. Featuring bold, colourful artwork by artist Tamara Thiebaux-Heikalo .
Whitney's chaotic upbringing worsened when her first date went wrong. My love for a beautiful girl, I thought it was only a dream, was a miracle handed to me on a silver platter, only to be taken away by death. Only a couple of friends know what happened.
