A therapist searching for purpose. Five veterans fighting the ghosts of their own. One unforgettable ride across America. Dr. Emily Carver leads a cross-country motorcycle trip meant to help a PTSD group reclaim their lives. But the open road brings more than freedom: it brings buried trauma, unexpected danger, and moments of healing she could never have planned. From bar fights in Texas to storms on the plains, from painful reunions to long-overdue forgiveness, Emily's riders learn that healing isn't found at the destination-it's found in the miles between. When the riders finally reach Arlington National Cemetery, they discover something even stronger than the wounds they carry: each other. Wind Therapy is a powerful story of loss, brotherhood, and the road that brings us home.

"Enjoy this story. I already jumped to the parts about me." - Boy George The extraordinary life story of David Hodge - the 'Very Miss Dusty O'. "My story is one of laughter and hedonism, dressing up and showing off. I played Queen in a parallel universe of glamour, rhinestones and couture outfits. It's also one of alienation and loneliness and of always being the odd one out. I lived through AIDS, Princess Diana and Thatcher but came out singing and dancing my way through Soho and the West End. I survived a murder attempt and bankruptcy. I am still here. Now I paint my feelings and not my face and once again feel as if my journey is beginning. This is my truth. Grubby at times but mine to tell. Here it is. Uncensored." - David Hodge From a skinny, ginger-haired kid from Walsall who was bullied at school, to the 'Queen of Soho', who would rule London's drag scene in its most dazzling era. This gripping true story follows an unassuming boy, separated from other children and made to sit by the window, on to a remarkable career, with celeb buddies including Kylie Minogue, The Pet Shop Boys, Grace Jones, Cyndi Lauper and, of course, Boy George. But behind the glitter, there was a far darker reality. David worked simultaneously at London Lighthouse, the pioneering centre for the care of people living with HIV and AIDS. Here, the young David grew up fast and opened his eyes to the true impact of this terrifying pandemic. The contrast was stark between the life of David Hodge during the day and the life of Miss Dusty O after dark. After two decades in clubland, as drink and drugs started to take their toll and he feared he was developing his father's alcoholic patterns, David changed his life yet again...

Even people with little interest in birds will stop in their tracks at the sight of a hawk soaring overhead or a falcon perched on a window ledge. Birds of prey have an aura that few other creatures have. In the acclaimed Hawks in Flight, Pete Dunne showed what birds of prey look like. In The Wind Masters, he shows what it is like to be a bird of prey. He takes us inside the lives and minds of all thirty-four species of diurnal raptors found in North America -- hawks, falcons, eagles, vultures, the osprey, and the harrier -- and shows us how each bird sees the world, hunts its prey, finds and courts its mate, rears its young, grows up, grows old, and dies. Vividly written, and beautifully illustrated by David Sibley, The Wind Masters is a brilliant work of narrative natural history in the tradition of Peter Matthiessen's The Wind Birds and Barry Lopez's Of Wolves and Men.

A Collection of Critical Essays: (The Name of the Wind, True Detective, The Silmarillion, The New York Trilogy)
Postmodern Ghosts: A Postmodern Analysis of Paul Auster s Ghosts In this essay we analyze Ghosts, the second book of The New York Trilogy, from a Postmodern perspective. This book was written by the American writer Paul Auster. In this essay we focus on the ideas of simulacra, hyperreality and reality and how they apply to this novel. We also discuss how the idea of Metafiction is present here and why this can be considered to be a metafictional novel. Opening the Locked Room: A Psychoanalytical Study of True Detective s Character Rustin Cohle This essay presents a deep analysis of Rustin Cohle, the main character of the HBO s TV show True Detective. Rustin Cohle is a detective who has to investigate the case of a murdered woman whose corpse appears in a strange position the day of his daughter s birthday. He is a lonely person who has a pessimistic vision of life. He is a reflexive character who considers himself a realistic person, but in philosophical terms he is conscious that he is a pessimistic person due to his vision of life and reality. We provide an analysis of his behaviour, his way of looking at reality and his psyche (or as he called it, his locked room) from a psychoanalytic point of view. To do so we use the Psychoanalytical theories provided by Freud and the recent research based on Trauma Theory. Echoes of Transcendentalism in North-American Contemporary Literature: An Analysis of The Name of the Wind and The New York Trilogy This essay compares two novels, The Name of the Wind and The New York Trilogy, in relation with Transcendentalism, the well-known American literary and philosophical movement from the 19th century. It is going to be interesting to see how these two contemporary novels which apparently are different in style and content can be related through the ideas of Transcendentalism. These novels are different not only in their categories (The Name of the Wind is a fantasy novel and The New York Trilogy is a literary masterpiece, which borrows from the genre of detective novels) but also they are supposed to have a different audience (The Name of the Wind may be considered to be addressed to a more popular audience and The New York Trilogy to a more cultivated audience). With this essay we also want to prove that Transcendentalism continues to influence contemporary writers, both highbrow and lowbrow. A Question of Gender Roles in Apollonius of Tyre and Le Morte Darthur In this essay we analyze and compare Apollonius of Tyre and Sir Thomas Malory s "The Poisoned Apple", included inside Le Morte Darthur, from a gender perspective. We also discuss how male and female characters behave in relation to their roles as heroes, kings, queens or princesses. Apollonius of Tyre is a popular romance which is thought to be based on the Latin Historia Apollonii Regis, whose origin is probably Greek. This story has been popular throughout history, particularly in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. La Morte Darthur is a compilation of stories about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. This romance was written by Sir Thomas Malory and published by William Caxton in 1485. "The Poisoned Apple" is one of the stories that can be found inside La Morte Darthur and it is included inside the book 7, also known as the book of Sir Launcelot and Queen Guinevere. Hear my word of power, for I m not a mere maiden: A Feminist and Racial Analysis of Tolkien s Of Beren and L thien This essay presents an analysis of the chapter "Of Beren and L thien", included in The Silmarillion. This book was published by Tolkien s son Christopher Tolkien in 1977, four years after his father s death. We analyze this chapter from a gender and racial perspective in order to present how the roles of Beren and L thien work in this story.

Samantha Reagan's ordinary routine as a newly minted lawyer was suddenly and irrevocably intruded upon by a dead body, a box of money, and a ghastly looking stranger sent to kill her. It had all started one evening when her law firm's senior partner called and asked her to deliver a box of files to his associate. This seeming innocuous request forever changed the course of her life. Accused of murder and on the run, Sam flees Nashville and temporarily finds some measure of peace while hiding in plain sight in the tourist town of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She soon discovers, though, that her peace is an illusion.
Imaging Plasma Density Structures in the Soft X-Rays Generated by Solar Wind Charge Exchange with Neutrals
This book provides a comprehensive review of the soft X-rays emitted when the solar wind interacts with exospheric neutrals at Venus, Mars, comets, the Moon, and Earth. It shows how observations can be used to address research problems ranging from the nature of magnetic reconnection at the Earth's magnetopause to atmospheric loss at other planets. The book provides the theoretical basis for soft X-ray emission and describes simulations of the expected emissions, past observations by narrow field-of-view X-ray telescopes, and current efforts to develop a new generation of wide field-of-view telescopes capable of capturing the entire solar wind-obstacle interaction.Originally published in Space Science Reviews, Volume 214, Issue 4, Article 79, 2018
The Poetics of Empowerment in David Mitchell’s Novels

The Poetics of Empowerment in David Mitchell’s Novels

The Poetics of Empowerment in David Mitchell’s Novels combines the investigation of David Mitchell’s novels with the introduction of a new critical concept to literary studies: empowerment. Aiming to situate and establish empowerment firmly within the context of literary studies, it offers the first framework and definition for reading fictional texts with the lens of empowerment and applies it in the analysis of discourse, the fictional characters, and the role of the reader in Mitchell’s novels. Drawing on narratological analysis, cognitive approaches to literature, and reader-response theory, it features close readings of Cloud Atlas (2004), Black Swan Green (2006), and The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet (2010) and dissects the author’s strategies, poetics, and agenda of empowering fiction. This book argues for an inherent, indissoluble connection between empowerment and the telling of stories and demonstrates how literary studies can benefit from a serious engagement with empowerment—and how such an engagement can stimulate new responses to fiction and put literary studies in conversation with other disciplines.
