The Fruit of Lies is the sixth book in Deb Pines' traditional whodunit Chautauqua Mysteries featuring the wise and witty reporter sleuth of a certain age Mimi Goldman. "An Agatha Christie for the text-message age," IndieReader calls the series. When tyrannical billionaire Thomas C. Whistler drowns in a Japanese soaking tub in his Chautauqua McMansion in July 2018, was it an accident? The police aren't sure. A note from the dead energy-bar magnate and phony TED Talk speaker says, "Don't let my killer get away with it." Reporter and relentless snoop Mimi Goldman digs in. She questions Whistler's guilty-looking heirs, his seven glib and greedy kids, including: an ambitious actor, a building contractor, a Shakespearean scholar, a socialite and daughter with Down syndrome. Assisted by her computer-savvy son Jake and her 92-year-old sidekick (and wheelman) Sylvia Pritchard, Mimi even leaves Chautauqua this time to poke around nearby pawnshops and Lily Dale, a spooky spiritualist community. Mimi feels like she's getting nowhere -- until someone runs Sylvia's car off the road, landing the pair of persistent gumshoes in a ditch. Battered but hopeful, Mimi reexamines old clues and lies until she realizes the sad truth of this case -- in time to say "I do" to her devoted beau Walt. Fans of Agatha Christie and Louise Penny and Elly Griffiths and "Only Murders in the Building" will enjoy this twist-filled mystery Kirkus Reviews calls, "A breezy distraction that will keep readers guessing."

This book is dedicated to anyone who has ever experienced grief, so basically it is dedicated to everyone. By allowing yourself time to grieve properly you can then become free to move on and embrace all that is life. I found that journaling was very cathartic and helped me along my personal processes. I'm including pages for you to record thoughts and feelings with each piece as well as additional journal pages in the back. It can be therapeutic to write down emotions that overwhelm and in doing so allow the healing. May you find comfort and know that you are not alone in this process.

Do you consider yourself a good person?Have you ever made a big mistake?Have you ever felt lucky that your mistake did not ruin your life? This story is about a good person who made a big mistake and paid for it for the rest of her life. It's 1932 and the country is amid a sexual revolution. Willow Jule finds Phoenix a perfect escape from her mundane relationship with her husband, a veteran who is nearly twice her age and struggles with drug addiction. This sets the stage for Jack, a charming, smooth-talking successful Phoenix businessman. Like many other men in his social circle, he sends his wife and children north in the summer to escape the Arizona heat, allowing him to party with young women only too happy to lavish attention in exchange for money or gifts.Willow's religious, conservative upbringing in rural Indiana in no way prepares her for the unconventional life she is about to enter. When she meets Jack, emboldened by her roommates, sparks fly, and she makes an age-old mistake - confusing sex with love. That mistake results in two murders fueled by jealousy.Willow Jule lands in jail and a sensational trial is funded by the yellow journalist William Randolph Hearst. Hearst doesn't care about Willow or her circumstances. He just wants her sensational story for his newspapers. Willow's name becomes a household word. The result is a woman losing most of her adult life, either to incarceration or to time on the lam. This book is inspired by the true story of Winnie Ruth Judd. There are times when the narrative seems preposterous. Well...those parts are real. But what about the events filling in around those parts? Those are fiction and come from the author's imagination. Or do they?

A stunning sunset begins in the northeastern sky. It sunk beautifully, like a time-lapse movie of eerie summer sunsets. But it was no ordinary event. Wholly orange, it reached up and up until it loomed over town, blocking out the sun. Somehow, she knew, life was going to change soon. Police Officer Fynn is on duty in Missouri when something terrible happens. The sunset is followed by a record number of calls about lights and ships in the sky and a power outage that lasts for months. She survives the visits by the watchers but realizes months later to find life transformed, with controlled weather, a ship-filled sky, citizens missing and the desperate need for an emergency plan for them all. So begins her journey to find shelter, food and the missing, along with the answer to the mystery of what has arrived. Others slowly discover an alien threat, unlike anything they've ever seen. And suddenly, their world is ripped apart. On the run from the watchers, Fynn's determination to protect her town is her only weapon as citizens begin moving to one area together and into chaos. But then a shocking theory bursts open - one that's as horrifying to Fynn as the aliens surrounding them. They are coming. Stratton Deb Stratton Books to get your reading again Reviews: Beth Ryder "I had not read a book in twenty years and was never really interested in reading or committing to books that took weeks to read. I love Deb's style. I can easily feel accomplished by actually finishing a book that I start reading. 5 Stars David Parker "I've been binge-listening to Post Apocalyptic books, and this book is right up there with the best of them. For me, plausibility is a big deal - I like real people solving real problems. I think the author did a great job creating believable situations that held my interest. This is also the first Post Apocalyptic book I've read that was written from the perspective of a woman. Many of the scenes involve her struggling with self-doubts, but always becoming the strong woman at the right time. This may sound tedious, but I felt the way it was written helped embellish the storyline. Some may also feel that the main characters were a bit too lucky, but in this new World you make your own luck, and that's what they did. Overcoming one obstacle after another as the World grew ever bleaker truly holds your interest."Kristen Lewis "I regret nothing. It DOES beg the questions, though: In such a situation, where there are no answers as to what can cause the world to physically flip flop to the extreme unknown, who can you trust? How does one survive when they are ill-prepared for such an extended and volatile event? Where do you draw the line of humanity when very decision means life or death? I purchased this book outright. I was not disappointed."Visit Alien Zoo on FB Mandy M. "I found myself in tears reading the last pages of this book. It was not just a story about Aliens, it was more than that. It restored my faith in life and humanity. It gave meaning to all of our journey's. Well done."
