The year was 1947. A talented young minor-league baseball player was called up to the majors to join the Brooklyn Dodgers. But this was no ordinary man, nor any simple achievement. This was Jackie Robinson: an all-around star athlete, a U.S. Army veteran--and a black man. Until that year, baseball's shameful color line had kept African Americans out of the big leagues. Overcoming prejudice, exclusion, and even hatred, Jackie Robinson broke that line and became one of the game's best players. He was recognized in the Hall of Fame, and he inspired many young people to fight segregation and ignorance for the chance to follow their dreams. Through both his career and his character, Jackie Robinson became one of America's greatest heroes. This is his story.
Jackie's Journey Jackie accepts a job in corporate America and quickly learns the difference between working with humans and pack. Disillusioned she searches for something that interests and challenges her before accepting her sister's advice to return to the Wolf Nation to work. Join Jackie on her journey of inner discovery and the realization that the world is not the way she imagined it to be. This is the first book in the La Patron's Den Series.

On March 26, 1931, the baseball world was stunned as a 18-year female pitcher named Virne Beatrice "Jackie" Mitchell of Chattanooga, TN, signed a minor league contract with the hometown Lookouts. Several days later, Mitchell took to the mound for an April 2 preseason game against the New York Yankees, striking out both Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. With her exploits reported the next day in newspapers across the United States, Jackie Mitchell became a household name Mitchell's story is detailed in a new book by women's baseball historian John Kovach. Jackie Mitchell: The Girl Who Loved Baseball. It is the most complete look at the life and career of Mitchell. The book is published by Waldenhouse Publishers of Signal Mountain, Tennessee. As a young girl, Jackie and her family lived in Memphis, Tennessee. The family lived in close proximity to then minor league Memphis Chicks pitcher (and future Baseball Hall of Famer) Arthur Charles "Dazzy" Vance. It was Vance who reportedly taught a young Jackie to throw a baseball. While previous books about Mitchell center around her appearance against the Yankees, readers will learn a number of new things about Mitchell, both on and off the baseball field. Some of those things include: - Jackie playing for her first organized team, the Engelettes in 1930- Jackie pitching for or against teams from eight different minor leagues- The only female pitcher to hold two major league teams scoreless- A first-ever, year-by-year record of Jackie's pitching career- Jackie's challenge to Babe Didrikson to pitch against herAccording to popular culture, the possibility that she would be soon a starting member of the Lookouts pitching staff was dashed when Baseball Commissioner, Kennesaw Mountain Landis reportedly banned females from playing professional baseball after her appearance. There is no written evidence of Landis ban according to Kovach. Following the game in Chattanooga, many of the teams she would play for would state that her contrast was "on loan" to their club from the Lookouts. As a female athlete in the 1930s, Mitchell played both baseball and basketball. Through her basketball playing, Mitchell encountered the legendary Mildred "Babe" Didrikson, playing on her "All American's Basketball Team" as well as the "Stars of The World", managed by Grover Cleveland Alexander. Kovach creates a unique chapter from interviews with Jackie between 1931-33. Readers will again hear Jackie in her own words tell what it was like to face Ruth and Gehrig; her love of baseball as well as what it was like to play with the bearded House of David team. The book also touches upon the post-athletic life of Mitchell until her death in 1987. Readers will learn about the deaths of her mother, father and younger sister as well as her brief marriage to Eugene A Gilbert.

Explore the Fascinating Life of Jackie Kennedy Without a doubt, the name Jackie Kennedy draws multiple thoughts to mind; she is, perhaps, most well-known in her service as the first lady of the United States, as her husband, John F. Kennedy, took office as the president, and her role in restoring the White House. Then, of course, other people remember Jacqueline for her role in the fashion industry, particularly her pink Chanel suit and matching pillbox hat, which became a symbol of her husband's assassination. Jackie is so renowned and beloved that she ranks as one of the most popular first ladies. In fact, Jacqueline was named in 1999 on Gallup's list of Most Admired Men and Women in twentieth-century America. While she made major impacts on the White House, Jackie was much more than her title as first lady. Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis was, for much of her life, the most famous woman in the world. First as the chic, sophisticated wife of President John F. Kennedy, she was the woman who brought Paris to its heels and turned the White House into the living museum of American history that it is today. After her husband's assassination, she served as a symbol of strength to Americans reeling from the tragic events of November 22, 1963. The black-veiled widow who presented a stoic face to the world during Kennedy's funeral procession seemed capable of doing no wrong. But in her private life, Jackie was tormented by the Kennedy assassination to a degree that few people outside her immediate circle ever realized. After the assassination of her brother-in-law Robert F. Kennedy, she stunned the world, and her own closest relations, by marrying Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis, who was twenty-three years older than her. Suddenly vilified by the press as a fortune seeker who had turned her back on the American people, she would spend the rest of her life struggling to gain the one thing that she had been denied in her life of immense privilege: control over her own destiny.

An environmental fable; Celebrates the resilience of Nature and human creativity; By the same creators of I Just Want to be Super Longue description pour KSP: A rusty haze has fallen over the city, forcing all the people to stay inside. Jackie, a young girl who loves to draw, keeps up her spirits by drawing all the wildlife she can see from her window, especially the mountain where she used to go for strolls and draw in her sketchbook. As the days wear on into weeks and months, Jackie gradually loses the heart to do anything, even to draw. But one day, in the canal below her window, a dolphin leaps into the air. Soon, a moose, an eagle and other animals begin to appear throughout the city-a sight so inspiring that, in a burst of renewed energy, Jackie creates a wondrous drawing unlike any she has ever made, one that will carry her higher and farther than she ever dreamed she could go. An environmentalist fable inspired by stories of places reclaimed by nature, this breathtaking adventure, beautifully illustrated in a soft painterly style, celebrates the resilience of both the natural world and human creativity and will have young readers picking up their pencils for some nature drawing of their own.

Field Test is a photographic examination of the conflicting field between external forces and hyperconnectivity. Jackie Nickerson (*1960) questions the living conditions of the people of this world and chronicles the consciousness of her generation. Nickerson‘s impressive photo sculptures dismantle and reconstruct, protect and destroy the individual human being. The topics that we encounter in her photographs are omnipresent: globalisation, technology and medicine, commercialisation, mass production, environmental pollution, migration, digitisation, fake news and, last but not least, COVID-19. The materials are primarily composed of plastic and packaging materials in which people literally seem to be "caught". Nickerson's work is disturbingly unsettling. They almost seem like images of an inevitable future that is already impacting us today.
