The Apprentice

The Apprentice

Timothy M Buchanan

Hans has long understood the discipline of working with wood - the weight of it in his hands, the scent of fresh pine, and the quiet satisfaction of shaping something meant to last. When he leaves home to begin an apprenticeship, however, he quickly discovers that mastering a craft demands far more than technical skill. As expectations rise and challenges mount, Hans must confront disappointment, responsibility, relationships, and the difficult lessons that accompany growth. What begins as training in a trade becomes a deeper journey toward character, purpose, and resilience. The Apprentice is a reflective coming-of-age novel written for teens and young adults, yet it resonates strongly with adult readers. Centered on perseverance, integrity, and personal formation, it offers meaningful opportunities for cross-generational reading and discussion. The first installment in The Apprentice Trilogy, this novel will appeal to readers who value character-driven stories that explore how a life is shaped.

Every masterpiece begins with a single, uncertain cut... Hans has always known the weight of wood in his hands, the scent of fresh pine in the air, and the dream of greatness in his heart. As a teen, he dares to chase what others only whisper about - becoming the youngest master craftsman to make furniture for the king. But talent alone isn't enough. To carve his name into history, Hans must first shape himself. Sent away to finish his apprenticeship, Hans steps into a world far larger - and far harsher - than his quiet village. Relationships splinter. Truths are sanded down. And the lessons of life, love, loss, and legacy begin to strike with the force of a chisel. What begins as a journey of craft soon becomes a test of soul. This is Book One of an exhilarating trilogy - a powerful life saga that follows a young man on the most unpredictable, painful, and profound journey of all: life itself. The adventure is waiting. Are you ready?

Reflecting the enormous advances made in the field over the past ten years, this text synthesizes the latest developments in the ecology and evolution of animal parasites against a backdrop of parallel advances in parasite systematics, biodiversity and life cycles. This second edition has been thoroughly revised to meet the needs of a new generation of parasitology students. Balancing traditional approaches in parasitology with modern studies in parasite ecology and evolution, the authors present basic ecological principles as a unifying framework to help students understand the complex phenomenon of parasitism. Richly illustrated with over 250 figures, the text is accompanied by case study boxes designed to help students appreciate the complexity and diversity of parasites and the scientists who study them. This unique approach, presented clearly and with a minimum of jargon and mathematical detail, encourages students from diverse backgrounds to think generally and conceptually about parasites and parasitism.
Rebuilding Trust

Rebuilding Trust

Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan

While much attention has rightly been given to abuse survivors and institutional accountability, less has been said about how the sexual abuse crisis has shaped the experience of clergy themselves. Drawing on findings from the National Study of Catholic Priests (NSCP)—the most comprehensive survey of American priests in over 50 years— Rebuilding Trust explores how the abuse crisis and the Church’s institutional response have affected priestly well-being and morale, perceptions of episcopal leadership, and the culture of the presbyterate more broadly. The study reveals a striking breakdown in trust between priests and their bishops, exacerbated by concerns over due process in the wake of an abuse allegation, inconsistent application of abuse prevention policies, and a widening ideological divide between younger and older clergy. The book combines sociological analysis with theological, psychological, historical, canonical, and pastoral perspectives to contextualize these findings. Contributors from various fields examine shifts in the priesthood over the past few decades, assess the implementation of the 2002 Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People (the "Dallas Charter") and explore practical strategies for strengthening clergy formation, fostering fraternity, and improving bishop-priest relationships. By integrating empirical research with theological reflection, this volume offers a timely and necessary addition to the discussion of how the Church can rebuild trust, support priests, and cultivate a healthier presbyterate. It will be essential reading for Church leaders, seminary formators, scholars of Catholicism, and anyone concerned with the future of the priesthood in the United States.
Walking in Roman Culture

Walking in Roman Culture

O'Sullivan Timothy M.

Cambridge University Press
2014
pokkari
Walking served as an occasion for the display of power and status in ancient Rome, where great men paraded with their entourages through city streets and elite villa owners strolled with friends in private colonnades and gardens. In this book-length treatment of the culture of walking in ancient Rome, Timothy O'Sullivan explores the careful attention which Romans paid to the way they moved through their society. He employs a wide range of literary, artistic and architectural evidence to reveal the crucial role that walking played in the performance of social status, the discourse of the body and the representation of space. By examining how Roman authors depict walking, this book sheds new light on the Romans themselves - not only how they perceived themselves and their experience of the world, but also how they drew distinctions between work and play, mind and body, and Republic and Empire.

This is a new edition of the germinal study of Loyalism in the American Revolution. Building on the work of his 1989 book, ""The Loyalist Perception and Other Essays"", accomplished historian Robert M. Calhoon returns to the subject of internal strife in the American Revolution with Tory Insurgents. This volume collects revised, updated versions of eighteen groundbreaking articles, essays, and chapters published since 1965, and it also features one essay original to this volume. In a model of scholarly collaboration, coauthors Calhoon, Timothy M. Barnes, and Robert Scott Davis are joined in select pieces by Donald C. Lord, Janice Potter, and Robert M. Weir. Among the topics broached by this noted group of historians are the diverse political ideals represented in the Loyalist stance; the coherence of the Loyalist press; the loyalism of garrison towns, the Floridas, and the Western frontier; Carolina loyalism as viewed by Irish-born patriots Aedanus and Thomas Burke; and, the postwar reintegration of Loyalists as citizens of the new nation. Included as well is a chapter and epilogue from Calhoon's seminal - but long out-of-print - 1973 study ""The Loyalists in Revolutionary America, 1760-1781"". This updated collection will serve as an unrivaled point of entrance into Loyalist research for scholars and students of the American Revolution.

Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid phase to the gas phase without passing through an intermediate liquid phase. (Wikipedia) You don't have to be a brain surgeon to start a sublimation business. It's not easy, but it's not hard... it just takes a lot of work and a commitment to be in business for yourself. It's fun, especially when everything comes together and you start getting orders, and some will be large, large enough to pay for all your costs and you can start making a profit. You may not know it, but if you have a heat press, you have the ability to substantially increase your sales to your present customers and gain new customers with new promotional items. Instant T-Shirts are a great source of revenue and a great customer base builder, but why just stop at T-shirts and sweatshirts? Most customers, especially retail customers you wholesale to want merchandise that will sell. You can supply them with many different items What about groups that constantly use promotional items to fund-raise? Do you think they only want to sell T-Shirts? The answer is "NO". They want items, just like retailers, that will sell and make them money. What about businesses that use promotional items as sales tools? That auto dealer, insurance agent or other salesmen/saleswomen who give away mugs, keychains, etc. to keep their name in front of possible customers. That is the name of the game, making money, whether it's for you or for the groups you sell to. Do you have a retail business and would like to add custom-made manufactured products to your line that your customers would love and need? Would you like a GREAT home business manufacturing your own products that are needed and customers love? Why sell someone else's products when you can sell your own? Intra-Industry Trade

Intra-Industry Trade

Cameron Thies; Timothy M. Peterson

STANFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS
2015
sidottu
Intra-Industry Trade calls for us to rethink what trade most often looks like and how it shapes global institutions, fostering peace among states. Cameron G. Thies and Timothy M. Peterson argue that our understanding of trade has not kept pace with its changing nature in the 21st century; existing models, rooted in Ricardo's theories, regard trade uniformly as taking place between entities and countries that offer different commodities and operate according to the logic of comparative advantage. Though this type of exchange does take place, intra-industry trade—international trade of the same or similar commodities, in which foreign and domestic brands compete—is increasingly prevalent. The authors argue that our current academic and policymaking focus on the total volume of trade, rather than its composition, is misplaced. Trade composition matters, not just because it gives us a fuller understanding of how trade works, but also because intra-industry trade increases the likelihood of positive institutional relations and cooperation between states. To illustrate their point, the authors examine the effects that intra-industry trade has on Preferential Trade Agreement formation, its tendency to lessen World Trade Organization disputes and militarized conflict, and its ability to pave the way for new and fortified alliances.
The Center is Jesus Christ Himself

The Center is Jesus Christ Himself

The polarization in the Church today can be traced back to a more fundamental crisis in theology, one which has failed to connect our mundane experiences and the mysteries of the Christian faith with the person of Jesus Christ. Ecclesial discourse on the so-called ‘hot- button issues’ of the day too often take place without considering the foundation and goal of the Church. And this is unfortunately due to a similar tendency in the academic theology that informs that ecclesial discourse. In short, much of post-conciliar Catholic theology is adrift, floating aimlessly away from the center of the Christian faith, who is Christ. The Center is Jesus Christ Himself is a collection of essays which anchor theological reflection in Jesus Christ. These diverse essays share a unified focal point, but engage with a variety of theological subdisciplines (e.g., dogmatic, moral, Biblical, etc.), areas (e.g., Christology, Pneumatology, missiology, etc.), and periods (e.g., patristic, medieval, and modern). Given the different combinations of sub-disciplines, areas, and periods, theology is susceptible to fragmentation when it is not held together by some principle of unity. A theology in which the person of Jesus Christ serves as that principle of unity is a Christocentric theology. Together, the essays illustrate not only what Christocentric theology looks like, but also what the consequences are when Christ is dislodged from the center, whether by a conspicuous silence on, or by a relativization of, his unique salvific mission. The volume is published in honor of Emeritus Professor of Systematic Theology at Boston College, Rev. Dr. Robert P. Imbelli, who dedicated his teaching and writing to bringing Christ back to the center of Catholic theological discourse.
The Methamphetamine Industry in America

The Methamphetamine Industry in America

Rutgers University Press

Galax, a small Virginia town at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, was one of the first places that Henry H. Brownstein, Timothy M. Mulcahy, and Johannes Huessy visited for their study of the social dynamics of methamphetamine markets—and what they found changed everything. They had begun by thinking of methamphetamine markets as primarily small-scale mom-and-pop businesses operated by individual cooks who served local users—generally stymied by ever more strenuous laws. But what they found was a thriving and complex transnational industry. And this reality was repeated in towns and cities across America, where the methamphetamine market was creating jobs and serving as a focus for daily lives and social experience. The Methamphetamine Industry in America describes the reality that the methamphetamine industry is a social phenomenon connecting local, national, and international communities and markets. The book details the results of a groundbreaking three-stage study, part of a joint initiative of the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute of Justice, in which police agencies across the United States were surveyed and their responses used to identify likely areas of study. The authors then visited these areas to observe and interview local participants, from users and dealers to law enforcement officers and clinical treatment workers.Through the eyes and words of these participants, the book tells the story of the evolution of methamphetamine markets in the United States over the past several years, given changes in public policies and practices and changing public opinion about methamphetamine. The authors look closely at how the markets are part of a larger industry, how they are socially organized, and how they operate. They also consider the relationships among the people involved and those around them, and the national, regional, and local culture of the markets. Their work demonstrates the importance of understanding the business of methamphetamine—and by extension other drugs in society—through a lens that focuses on social behavior, social relationships, and the cultural elements that shape the organization and operation of this illicit but effective industry.
