Im Sommer 2000 erinnerte eine Ausstellung der Bonner Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung im Osloer Rathaus an den sozialdemokratischen Politiker und Staatsmann Willy Brandt (1913-1992). Auf einem aus diesem Anlass vom Goethe-Institut Oslo im Norwegischen Nobelinstitut veranstalteten Symposium blickten deutsche und norwegische Referenten auf ein politisches Leben zuruck, das zu einem wichtigen Teil der deutsch-norwegischen Geschichte im 20. Jahrhundert geworden ist. Dieser Sammelband umfasst die Beitrage der Referenten ebenso wie die Reden des deutschen Bundeskanzlers und des norwegischen Ministerprasidenten bei der Ausstellungseroeffnung, erganzt um einen Aufsatz uber den im Jahre 1971 an Willy Brandt verliehenen Nobelpreis. Sommeren 2000 arrangerte Goethe-Institut Oslo i samarbeid med Friedrich Ebert-stiftelsen Bonn en utstilling i Oslo radhus til minne om den sosialdemokratiske politiker og statsmann Willy Brand (1913-1992). Pa et symposium i Det Norske Nobelinstitutt i regi av Goethe-Institut sa norske og tyske foredragsholdere - universitetslerere og politikere - tilbake pa Willy Brandts politiske liv, som er blitt et viktig kapittel i den norsk-tyske historie i det 20. arhundre. Dette konferansebindet inneholder bidragene til foredragsholderne og talene til den norske statsminister og den tyske forbundskansler ved apningen av utstillingen, supplert med en artikkel om tildelingen av Nobels fredspris til Willy Brandt 1971.

Im Leben und Werk des Psychologen, Arztes, Politikers und Journalisten Willy Hugo Hellpach (1877 - 1955) stellen sich die geistigen und politischen Stromungen der ersten Halfte des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts in beeindruckender Weise dar: Sozialismus, Liberalismus, konservative Demokratie; Wundts Elementenpsychologie, Psychotechnik der Arbeitswelt, Umweltpsychologie; Bildungspolitik, Schulreform. Hellpach war zu seiner Zeit einer der bekanntesten Journalisten im deutschsprachigen Raum, ein prominentes Mitglied der Deutschen Demokratischen Partei. Von 1922 bis 1925 war er Unterrichtsminister in Baden, 1925 kandidierte er fur seine Partei bei der Reichsprasidentenwahl. Als Journalist und Wissenschaftler bemuhte er sich, die Psychologie in seinem eigenen, weiten Verstandnis einem grossen Leserkreis bekannt zu machen und die politischen Zeitereignisse im Sinne dieser Wissenschaft zu klaren und zu beeinflussen."
Willy Hellpach war DDP-Politiker, politischer Schriftsteller und Psychologe in der Weimarer Republik. Das politische Leben dieses vielseitigen Intellektuellen und bekannten politischen Redners wird in dieser Arbeit als historische Biographie entwickelt und seine politische Haltung untersucht. In seiner Person verbindet sich auf einzigartige Weise die Haltung der Hochschullehrer als Elite zur Weimarer Republik, die badische Landesgeschichte, an der er als Kultusminister einen Anteil hatte, mit der politischen Geschichte Weimars. Seine UEberzeugungen unterlagen geringeren Schwankungen, als man angesichts vier politischer Systeme erwarten koennte. Hellpach hinterliess bleibende Ergebnisse als Kultusminister und sein politisches Lebenswerk - ein Regierungssystem fur Deutschland.
