The particular design which social programs take is to a large extent determined by the existing institutional constraints and politicians' imperative to win elections. The Political Logic of Poverty Relief places elections and institutional design at the core of poverty alleviation. The authors develop a theory with applications to Mexico about how elections shape social programs aimed at aiding the poor. Would political parties possess incentives to target the poor with transfers aimed at poverty alleviation or would they instead give these to their supporters? Would politicians rely on the distribution of particularistic benefits rather than public goods? The authors assess the welfare effects of social programs in Mexico and whether voters reward politicians for targeted poverty alleviation programs. The book provides a new interpretation of the role of cash transfers and poverty relief assistance in the development of welfare state institutions.

Control-Based Operating System Design describes the application of system- and control-theoretical methods to the design of computer operating system components. It argues that computer operating system components should not be first 'designed' and then 'endowed with control', but rather when possible conceived from the outset as controllers, synthesised and assessed in the system-theoretical world of dynamic models, and then realised as control algorithms. Doing so is certainly a significant perspective shift with respect to current practices in operating system design, but the payoff is significant too. In some sense, adopting the suggested attitude means viewing computing systems as cyber-physical ones, where the operating system plays the computational role, the physical elements are the managed resources, and the various (control) functionalities to be realised, interact and co-operate as a network. The book includes both a theoretical treatment of the usefulness of the approach, and the description of a complete implementation in the form of Miosix, a microcontroller kernel made available as free software.

Die Untersuchung "Die Rolle von Sch lern und Lehrern bei schulischer Gewalt an ffentlichen Sekundarschulen im Bundesstaat Sonora" zielt darauf ab, die verschiedenen Rollen zu charakterisieren, die Sch ler und Lehrer bei schulischer Gewalt einnehmen. Der Schwerpunkt liegt dabei auf der Beschreibung von Attributionsvariablen und kontinuierlichen Variablen (die das Ausma der Gewalt, die Rollen, die moralischen Emotionen, die Verhaltensvariablen, die sozio konomischen Variablen und die Risikoverhaltensweisen messen), die jede der in dieser Art von Situation ausge bten Rollen diskriminieren und die ausgew hlt wurden, weil sie sich als die wichtigsten Sekundarschulen zu diesem Thema herausstellen. Art der Forschung, quantitativer Ansatz, Erhebungsmethode, probabilistische Stichprobe. Insgesamt nahmen 2352 Sch ler und 395 Lehrer aus 64 Schulen im Bundesstaat Sonora teil. Die Ergebnisse deuten darauf hin, dass jede der Rollen und ihre Unterebenen unterschiedliche Niveaus annehmen, wobei diejenigen, die lter als das Alter und die Klasse sind, am h ufigsten die Rolle der Aggressoren bernehmen. Auch die H ufigkeit der weiblichen Aggressoren hat nach anderen vergleichenden Studien mit dieser Arbeit zugenommen, und zwar im Verh ltnis von zwei m nnlichen Aggressoren zu einer Frau.

The research "Role of students and teachers in school violence in public high schools in the State of Sonora" aims to characterize the different roles assumed by students and teachers in school violence. Focusing on describing attribution variables and continuous variables (which measure: levels of violence, roles, moral emotions, behavioral variables, socioeconomic variables and risk behaviors) that discriminate each one of the roles exercised in this type of situations and that were chosen for standing out as the most important secondary schools on this topic. Type of research, quantitative approach, survey method, probabilistic sample. A total of 2352 students and 395 teachers from 64 schools in the state of Sonora participated. The results indicate that each of the roles and their sub-levels adopt different levels, with those older than age and grade being the ones who mostly assume the role of aggressors. Likewise, the incidence of female aggressors has increased according to other comparative studies with this work, in a ratio of two male aggressors to one female.

Allo stesso modo, l'incidenza degli aggressori di sesso femminile aumentata secondo altri studi comparativi con questo lavoro, in un rapporto di due aggressori maschi per una femmina.

Da mesma forma, a incid ncia de agressores do sexo feminino aumentou de acordo com outros estudos comparativos com este trabalho, numa propor o de dois agressores do sexo masculino para uma mulher.
