When ex-soldier Joe Hunter agrees to protect grieving mother, Billie Womack, on behalf of a DEA contact, it's a pledge he will come to regret. Her husband, Richard, was a thief. In a desperate attempt to escape his pursuers, Richard apparently died in a car crash, along with their daughter, Nicole. But the violent people chasing Richard think he escaped the plunge into the river canyon that killed Nicole: they want him...and the thirty million dollars he stole from them. And they think Billie knows where he is and that Richard will return for the money. Soon Joe and Billie become fugitives, chased by relentless killers. Joe has no idea who he can really trust, but he'll do everything in his power to save an innocent life. Richard's fate means nothing to him, but protecting the grieving woman is a no-brainer for Joe Hunter, even if it means taking a bullet meant for her. It's a price he'll pay, and come to regret, when he learns that killers shaped on the Devil's anvil come in unexpected ways. ***Praise for THE DEVIL'S ANVIL*** "There's plenty of heart-in-the-mouth action, smart dialogue and convincing extras...give me Joe Hunter over Reacher any day." -Crimereview.co.uk "To sum up, 'The Devil's Anvil' is a fantastic novel which is a welcome addition to an excellent series. 5/5." -Crimesquad.com "Fast paced, entertaining and very readable the story moves along at a frenetic pace...another great read." -Milorambles.com

What a Finish to the Sign of the Times Trilogy As America celebrated after the Great War, the contrast of Prohibition being enacted and women gaining the right to vote set the stage for the new lifestyles that became the Roaring Twenties. Newspapers became big business and were the information source for people in all parts of the country and the world. In this climactic conclusion, The Hammer and the Anvil weaves historical events with the story of the Collier and Standlin families, who realize their very survival is threatened when unscrupulous industrialists and corrupt politicians try to buy the Mercerville News-by any means possible."The Sign of the Times Trilogy is a wonderful story that teaches the history of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The characters are strong, and the story is full of historically accurate events, while enthralling the reader in a family's struggle between new and old ways.Dr. Shawna Martino, College of Education, Grand Canyon University. "As a parent, I read A Sign of the Times with our oldest son, and it was a wonderful way of integrating history and literature. I went on to read the rest of the trilogy, evoking laughter and tears, and I felt inspired by these characters. It was nice to see how each book, including Rachel and the Hammer and the Anvil, continued the story of their lives, and the accompanying study guides serve as valuable tools, aiding students in relating to the content, enhancing comprehension, and acquiring historical knowledge as an additional benefit."Dr. Crystal McCabe, Ph. D., Grand Canyon University.

The year was 1877. There was a lot of activity in the little river town of Springfield in the Dakota Territory. Things were rapidly changing in the area and it seemed that Springfield was the hub. Not all was not without trouble in this river town since across the river lurked a gang of notorious cutthroat outlaws known as the Devil's Nest Gang. These outlaws not only robbed banks and were responsible for the deaths of many innocent people but they provided safe haven to many of the criminal element on the owl hoot trail (for a fee of course). U. S. Marshals couldn't penetrate their defenses. Posses in pursuit of this gang never returned. Despite this, there was a fragile peaceful co-existence between these two communities until one day a son of the leader of the outlaws brazenly attempted robbery and murder of a stranger in broad daylight right on Main Street in Springfield. As the whole community stood by, the son of the local blacksmith, Tovar Cooke, intervened and saved the stranger's life thus incurring the wrath of the outlaws. This wrath caused many to feel that Tovar Cooke picked on the wrong crowd. It wasn't long before the outlaw gang started their vengeance against Tovar. First it was the gang leader's son. Then the gang leader sent six men. He sent a professional gunslinger. After he positioned snipers across the river and one bystander was wounded Tovar finally had had it. He was going to go on the offensive
