Fourth generation Washingtonian, Scottish, Irish and German heritage. Began painting at the age of 10, in oils and switched to pastels at the age of 11. Mr. Ihrie completed his first pastel still-life at age 13. His second large pastel "St. Joseph Lily" was completed at age 18. Mr. Ihrie graduated from Anacostia High School in June, 1939. Mr. Ihrie's first book, "The Bicentennial 1976 for the Citizens of the Tricentennial 2076" was published in the summer of 1976. The book contains 27 sketches on the National Mall that were completed in 1973, 1974, 1975 and 1976. Mr, Ihrie was featured in the Washington Arts Club "Fifty Year Retrospective" along with 49 other Washington artists in 1987. Mr, Ihrie has painted in nine countries, including; "Monet's Garden", France 1995, "Ruins of Romans", Beirut, Lebanon, 1999, Catholic University, Quito, Ecuador, 2007, co-sponsored, United States government Cultural Affairs, Ecuador.
