This lone-star city’s history comes alive, displayed in over 140 precious views of hand-tinted postcards from the late 1800s through the 1940s. See the old City Hall (the setting for the assassination of Lee Harvey Oswald) and the famous Fair Park, with its magnificent gardens, buildings and parks. See the John Neely Bryan cabin, Southern Methodist University, and the Tower Petroleum Building. Gape at the red flying horse atop the Magnolia Building, drawing visitors from afar. "At their best, short stories are works of art, of the imagination, that 'gather up the day and hold it, ' just long enough for us to share the experience, the imagined moment, with the story teller. And that is exactly what the 14 stories in Out of Dallas accomplish."--Texas Books in Review"Most of the time you'll find me here at the mini-warehouse, Pilgrim's Mini-warehouse, owned by Mrs. Etta Fontenot. Etta is the main reason I write here: I met her the day after the night my wife, now my ex-wife, suggested I move out and take my back issues of The New Yorker, The New Republic, and Show Business Illustrated (the whole run) among others, including selected numbers of Sports Illustrated and the New York Times Magazine with me. She could never understand why I kept all those shelves of magazines, cluttering up her closets, she said. We went round and round about that one."--from Ed Garcia's "Here at the Mini-Warehouse"Contents: "Here at the Mini-Warehouse," Ed Garcia; "Thin Silk Kites," Beverlye Brown; "Joy," Donna Dysart Gormly; "The Calf Killing," Sally Schrup; "At Summer's End," D. The year is 1934. Economic turbulence rocks the country. And record drought dries up crops, along with the spirits of every farmer south of the Mason-Dixon. Yet for sixteen-year-old Mick McLaren, life is good as he takes to the open road to chase his dream of being a musician. Riding boxcars, hitchhiking, walking and driving his way across Depression Era Texas, he finds not only himself, but the love of a girl from Dallas named Margaret. Along the way, they befriend Cowboy Larson, a Delta Blues guitarist. Together the three teens, from three very different worlds, come of age as their life-changing journey carries them through killer dust storms, extreme poverty, and the unprecedented gangster activity of the Dirty Thirties.

Fighting love is never a good thing. Not for Jourdyn-- the artsy only child of two abusive parents-- or for Staxx, who tries his best to look after her. Meeting upon unusual circumstances, the two form a friendship but is tragically separated. Hoping for a fairytale reunion as adults could lead to much heartbreak and misunderstanding. Jourdyn, now successfully a celebrity tattoo artist opening her second location soon, isn't sure what she wants though she's wealthy, gorgeous, and sought after. Staxx, on the other hand, keeps his secrets to himself and seeks the woman he left behind. The only issue is that Jourdyn isn't as close to being who remembered or who he fell in love with. The last day they were together is the only image the two hold of one another. Unfortunately, they were seperated at midnight in Dallas by the boys in blue, forever staining their portrait of who the other was.
