As a private investigator, you seldom deal with attempted murder. Most cases involve some sleaze bag cheating on his or her spouse. Occasionally, a case comes along where the victim wasn't simply sitting at home watching the late show while their significant other was boinking the neighbor. Sometimes, the case walks in the door where the victim may end up breathing their last. The worst part about a case like that is that no matter how hard you try; justice is just a crappy platitude we convince ourselves is attainable. No amount of justice will bring the dead back to life.My day was going great. I did my part in court and enjoyed every minute of it. Then I went home to the only two people in this world who understand me. Yep, everything was going great for Dean Cordaine, the world was looking my way. That was until my phone rang.I don't expect the world to be perfect. As a matter fact, I generally expected it to turn to shit the moment you take your eyes off of it. But I wasn't ready for what the voice at the end of the line told me. A man whom I generally considered an adversary lay impossibly close to breathing his last. And for some reason, this information hit me hard.I did the only thing I know how to do, I started digging for the truth.

Harry Redknapp spent 15 years at AFC Bournemouth as a player, coach and manager, longer than at any other club in his colourful career in football. Despite this lengthy association, Redknapp's days at Dean Court have featured only fleetingly in his biographies to date. Now, with the co-operation of Harry himself, the tale of his rise from barely remembered player to the country's brightest young manager is told for the first time. Harry shot to fame when lowly Bournemouth dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup, overcoming a backdrop of financial turmoil to guide the Cherries out of English football's third tier for the first time. He then bounced back from relegation and from almost losing his life to nurture his son, Jamie, from schoolboy sensation into one of Britain's most expensive teenage players. Featuring painstakingly researched archive material and interviews with team-mates, colleagues and friends, this is an inside account of Redknapp's years at Dean Court, as well as a history of two decades in the life of the Cherries.

This is an important and original biography of John Colet, the leading humanist theologian in early Tudor England and the founder of St Paul's School in London. Taken at face value, the facts of John Colet's life, spanning the late 15th and early 16th centuries, appear to portray a successful, humanist clerical reformer, active in London on the eve of the English Reformation. In fact, as a cleric, John Colet was neither successful nor a reformer, nor were the reforms he attempted particularly welcome. His greatest achievement, and lasting legacy, was the foundation of his school. Thus, in the sphere of Christian humanist education, Colet was a success. However, in all his dealings, Colet considered the spiritual life to be of paramount importance and his ultimate aim was the deification of sinful humanity, not just for a few exceptional individuals, but for the entire Church. In this respect, Colet's ecclesiastical vision did not effect any significant change in the early sixteenth-century Church, although it nevertheless pointed to the possibility of a more spiritual, unified and holy Church. Colet was a passionate and pious man who does not fall easily into any historical, intellectual or ecclesiastical category. Ultimately, he escapes identification with any other set of contemporaneous idealists because his vision was his own. This study offers a timely re-assessment of the life of a complex religious figure of pre-Reformation England.

Dean the Bean gets a Screen is an entertaining, fun, and engaging story with a purpose, written in a memorable Seuss-like rhyme. Perfect for children ages 4-10, this book offers an easy way for parents to introduce their kids to the vital issue of "screen addiction" through a likeable character named Dean the Bean. While written for kids, the book serves as a reminder to us all that we are human beings with lives worth living and opportunities to experience--not just "Do-Nothing Beans" addicted to our favorite virtual leash. The story: Dean is a cute, bored bean who wants excitement in his life. When he discovers the joys and encompassing fascination offered by various electronic platforms/screens (televisions, computers, cell phones, etc.), he forfeits his real life for life 'on the screen.' Dean soon gets addicted to his screens and his real life suffers. At last he realizes that his virtual-world has lost its color, but he finds his way back to the beauty of real-life when he steps away from his screens and their 'make-pretend existence.' Dean encourages us all to put our screens in 'time-out' from time-to-time so we can experience the joys that await us when we unplug from their influence. Screens are fun and useful, but they can take over our lives if we're not careful. Dean the Bean is like The Social Dilemma for kids-it sounds the warning in a hilarious format that children can understand.

The book‭ ‬Dean Langdell is Dead‭ ‬by Thomas Mengert critiques the American legal system‭, ‬focusing on the historical development of legal education and practice‭, ‬the current state of the legal profession‭, ‬and its implications for American society‭.‬The author argues that the legal system is fundamentally flawed‭, ‬rooted in an outdated feudal model and failing to adapt to a rapidly changing globalized world‭. ‬Mengert emphasizes the growing gap between the complexities of the law and the public's understanding‭, ‬as well as the increasing costs of legal services‭. ‬He proposes radical reforms to legal education and practice‭,‬‭ ‬aiming for a more efficient and equitable legal system that better serves the needs of the American people‭.‬

*Includes pictures. *Includes Martin and Lewis' quotes about their lives and careers. *Includes a bibliography for further reading. Like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin is an American legend for his longevity and success across a garden variety of different platforms. Martin began as a nightclub singer, performed in a comedy act, starred in films, recorded hit albums, and capped his career by serving as a television host. In fact, there may be no star who was better able to transcend the different avenues of entertainment. Martin's success was made all the more amazing by the fact that he never had to change his personality or persona to find success in his different endeavors. From the beginning, Martin's public persona remained largely unchanged. He grew more famous and wealthy, but he always remained the smooth-talking Italian with the easy charm and the cool veneer. As Jerry Lewis noted in his memoirs about Martin, "Dean had this uncanny way of making everything bad look like it wasn't all that bad." If anything, Martin suggested that no matter the circumstances, people can always face their situation with leisurely charm. Jerry Lewis has been in show business for over 7 decades, a multi-talented entertainer known for comedy, acting, singing, and producing and directing films to match, but he is best known for his work with Dean Martin, and in that sense, he remains overshadowed by his more famous partner. There's no doubt part of this was due to the stark contrast between their images, as Martin was suave and traditionally masculine while Lewis was a bundle of frantic energy. Although the circumstances that initiated their partnership are unusual and purely coincidental, the natural contrasts between the two ensured a perfect and complementary comedic fit. Working as "Martin and Lewis", the team became the most popular nightclub act in America, commanding huge fees for their appearances all across the country. Perhaps the most ironic aspect of their success is that Dean Martin was not a comedian in any real sense of the word, and even during their act, he essentially served as the straight man to Jerry Lewis. The routine ensured that critics took more notice of Jerry Lewis, who intentionally came across as an awkward figure with a brand of bodily humor that was borrowed from a lineage of Yiddish humor predicated on physical slapstick. And just as Martin benefited from Lewis' comedic skills, Lewis also further developed a singing career thanks to the more famous Martin's crooning. Though it's often forgotten now, the duo eventually broke up in the mid-1950s because Lewis was starting to outshine Martin in their joint film career. Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis profiles the lives and careers of two of America's most famous entertainers. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events, you will learn about Martin and Lewis like never before.
