The Happy Little Garbage Truck is the first in a series of social skills and literacy-based picture books. This series was created for primary grade students (ages 3-8). The first book introduces the main character, a scrappy little garbage truck, and explores the concept of self esteem. The little truck loves doing a good job of cleaning up his little community. However, when the little community grows into a large city, it is out-sized by the larger trucks that are able to carry larger loads. The little truck becomes sad when it is placed in a garage, unable to do the work he loves so much. However, a friendly man happens to visit the garage and finds the little truck. He could only afford to buy a small truck for his small community and is delighted to find the little truck who he had been observing. He happily selects the little truack and takes hiim back to his small community where they work together to keep the new community clean and tidy.

This first book introduces its main character and explores the topic of self-esteem. The little truck loves cleaning and doing a good job in his little community. However, as the little community grows into a big city, the truck is out-sized by newer, bigger trucks that are able to carry larger loads. The little truck becomes sad when it is placed in a garage, unable to do the work he loves so much. However, one day, a friendly man, who has been observing the little truck at work, discovers it in the garage. He has been in search of a small truck for his small community. He selects the little garbage truck and takes him back to his community, where they work happily ever after keeping the neighborhoods tidy and clean. Future titles will address other social skills (following directions, impulse control, managing behaviors and taking responsibility).

The Z Garbage Collector

This book explains how the Z Garbage Collector was designed, why it was designed this way, the common pitfalls to avoid when using ZGC in JDK 25 and how to get useful information from the garbage collector. Java is one of the most widely used programming languages in the world. It is a memory safe language that completely relies on a good garbage collection (GC) algorithm to work well. The Z Garbage Collector of OpenJDK is arguably the most sophisticated production GC algorithm for any managed language runtime. The book goes into detail and covers core algorithm concepts of ZGC: coloured pointers, GC barriers, concurrent marking, concurrent relocation, concurrent stack scanning, concurrent root scanning, concurrent class unloading, concurrent generational collection, as well as showing how all of this works. It explains how the JVM evolved certain features to be able to accommodate ZGC, and covers the importance of each of the various GC heuristics and how they function. With a unique angle right between academia and industry, this book is useful for computer science students and Java developers alike.

The Geographies of Garbage Governance
Previously perceived as a local, technical issue for governments, waste management is now also a global, socio-political process involving complex patterns of multi-level governance. Yet these geographical complexities have not previously been considered in any detail. This book examines the neglected geographies of waste management, in particular, the integral processes of trans-localization and politicization that are emerging in waste networks. Illustrated by in-depth case studies from New Zealand and Ireland, it critically analyzes the interaction between political scales of governing waste, from the local to the supra-national level. It also looks at the impact of wider systems of governance, civil society and the private sector on waste management policy and practices. In doing so, the book provides a better understanding of waste governance and recommendations for better management of the waste sector in the future.
