Filled with meticulously constructed photographs that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, this sumptuously produced retrospective features more than thirty years of work by one of America’s most influential photographers. For more than three decades, Gregory Crewdson has been luring viewers into the worlds of his cinematic, highly detailed, and assiduously crafted photographs. This retrospective catalog features images from nine series that represent a broad chronological spectrum of Crewdson’s oeuvre.Included are selections from Twilight, the eerie and often darkly humorous photographs inspired by Stephen Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind; Beneath the Roses, which illuminates townscapes, forest clearings and broad, desolate streets with unsettling clarity; the black and white images of Sanctuary, shot on location at the legendary Cinecitta` studios on the outskirts of Rome; Cathedral of the Pines, a paean to the beauty and tragedy of a gritty western Massachusetts town; and Eveningside, in which moments of alienation and wonder occur within the confines of quotidian life. With highest quality reproductions, paper changes, and incisive essays by photography expert Walter Moser and other esteemed art historians, this exhibition catalog reveals why Crewdson’s powerful, elegiac and painterly photos draw comparisons to old master painting, staged photography and auteur cinema.
Gregory of Nazianzus

Gregory of Nazianzus (ca330-390) is one of the three Greek church fathers from Cappadocia. This book explores both his theology -- which earned him the honorary title 'the Theologian' -- and his general importance as an independent thinker, prolific writer, orator, and poet. Gregory has often been in the shadow of the other Cappadocians, Basil of Caesarea and Gregory of Nyssa. This book demonstrates his central position in the formation of a hellenised Christian culture as well as his topicality today. More than any other ancient personality, save perhaps for Cicero and Augustine, Gregory recreates his inner life in his writings, and allows us to participate directly in the exciting intellectual and emotional climate of late antiquity. The reader is offered illuminating discussions of Gregory's exposition of the Trinity, his doctrine of deification, his theory of mental images, and his view of the ideal human self. Other contributions take his funeral orations, letters, and autobiographical poetry as points of departure for the study of family relations, gender attitudes, educational ideals, and literary accomplishments. In addition, light is shed on Gregory's seldom-studied poetical uvre and his impact on Byzantine theology and literature. The contributors are international specialists in patristics, church history, philosophy, Classical and Byzantine studies, and literary rhetoric.

Beirut and the Lebanese interior, design, and sweet life scene; Paris and Milan; high-end residential interiors, collectible design projects, and contemporary art; motorbikes and on-the-road adventures this is the fascinating world of architect and art collector Gregory Gatserelia, a Canadian-Lebanese designer with Georgian origins. The book features photos of interiors, private houses, and restaurants, with the common thread of decorative ceilings, Gregory Gatserelia's signature. Difficult to catch and to sit down with, Gatserelia has always been focused on doing rather than communicating and advertising. As such, this book represents his first-ever collection of projects and a moment of reflection. The book talks about the smoky, fascinating atmosphere of Beirut with vintage photos and a map of the jewel-town. Gatserelia helped raise awareness and promote contemporary art in the city, and he founded SMO Gallery to promote new talents. The book also includes interviews by Federica Sala with Patrick Perrin (Founder of PAD), Victor Gastou (Gastou Gallery), Jacopo Foggini (Italian designer), and Najla El Zein (artist, SMO gallery).
Gregory Palamas' Metaphysics of Light: The 'Absorption' of the Body by the Spirit
This book examines Gregory Palamas' perspective on light, applying the 'metaphysics of light' framework introduced by Clemens Baeumker and adapting it to propose a new theoretical approach to Palamas' thought. It explores Palamas' understanding of light, addressing its ontological, epistemological, and transformative aspects, which he articulates through the integration of scriptural exegesis and the direct experiences of monastic prayer. The analysis covers Palamas' key concepts, from the essence-energy distinction to the potential for experiencing the divine through the body in this life. The book situates Palamas' thought both within its historical context and the broader field of metaphysics, providing a philosophical perspective. This meticulous study invites readers interested in the intersections of Byzantine theology, philosophy, and metaphysics, offering a comprehensive examination of a system that challenges conventional views on corporeality and finitude.

The fantasy adventure trilogy of a young boy’s travels through a long-forgotten world where magic still rules. Young Gregory grows unhappy and restless when his father moves the entire family into an old family home in a new neighborhood. While awake in his bed, a glimmer from the floor attracts Gregory’s attention. He discovers a medallion on which there is a drawing of the great church that sits opposite his new residence. Bullied for being new, and ignored at home, Gregory decides to explore the church and the giant stone statue that rests atop of it. During his visit, the medallion begins to shine intensely and, with a flash, Gregory is hurled back to the 17th century, where gargoyles, sorcerers and magical beings live in harmony and magic.
