Laser therapy in Orthodontics

Laser therapy in Orthodontics

To the dental professional in general practice, the delivery of dental treatment can be compromised by the willingness of the patient to accept a procedure that is often erroneously associated with painful stimuli. Most patients recoil at the thought of a high or low speed drill and those exposed to surgery find associated bleeding and tissue bruising interferes with normal speech and eating functions. As much as any wish to explore the envelope of possible laser-tissue interaction, much of the hype surrounding laser use in dentistry has centred on the possibility to encourage patient uptake through the avoidance of pre and post-operative pain and discomfort. Certainly, however, today's lasers offer an opportunity to deliver hard and soft tissue treatments that, at least in outline, make the patient experience somewhat easier.

We report the growth of ultra small InSb nanowires through vapour-liquid-solid (VLS) mechanism by chemical vapour deposition method. The growth parameters are optimized to produce uniform and ultra small nanowires. The structural properties of the grown NWs are studied through scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Scanning electron microscopy studies confirm the tip growth mode of nanowires through VLS mechanism. The diameters of the grown nanowires are found to be 8-10 nm. Morphological features are studied through atomic force microscopy. Each NW contains a nano-sized Au catalyst at the bottom most end of the wire indicating the tip-growth mode from VLS mechanism.

This comprehensive book brings together experts from both the marine science and pharmacy disciplines to relay important aspects on the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical values of 175 species of bony and cartilaginous fishes as well as the uses of fish processing byproducts and wastes.Presented in an easy-to-read style, the volume provides precise identification of freshwater and marine fishes possessing pharmaceutical and nutraceutical compounds along with over 180 photographs. Aspects covered include biology, ecology, diagnostic features, and pharmaceutical and nutraceutical compounds along with their activities for each of the fish included. The book details the bioactive compounds, including fish muscle proteins, peptides, collagen and gelatin, fish oil, etc., from such species, as well as the bioactive peptides that are derived from various fish muscle proteins, which have various biological activities, including cardio protective, antihypertensive, anticancer, anti-diabetic, antibacterial, anticoagulant, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities. Also discussed are the nutritional benefits of fish consumption, which are largely due to the presence of proteins, unsaturated essential fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins. The waste products obtained during fish processing are also a potential source of bioactive peptides that can be used as a source of nitrogen and amino acids, which have immunomodulatory, antibacterial, antitrombotic, and antihypertensive properties. This volume provides the information needed to tap into these vast pharmaceutical and nutraceutical benefits. Pharmaceuticals and Nutraceuticals from Fish and Fish Wastes will be of great use for students and researchers of disciplines such as pharmaceutical sciences, marine/fisheries sciences, marine microbiology, and marine biotechnology. It will also be a standard reference for libraries of colleges and universities and a guide for pharmaceutical companies involved in the development of new drugs from fishes and their wastes.

Acute respiratory failure frequently necessitates the introduction of endotracheal tube to maintain airway patency and for mechanical ventilation. Endotracheal tube insertion is a common life saving procedure seen in patientsadmitted in intensive care units and wards. In critical care units, multisystem organ failure patients have highest mortality. Endotracheal intubation being common and important procedure, it is essential to determine whether factors like age, sex and nature of primary illness in intubated patients have any role in determining their clinical course and outcome. Many studies have been done till date in neuroparalytic patients especially in GBS patients which studied factors affecting respiratory failure and requirement for endotracheal intubation and factors affecting outcome. The aim of this study is to compare which patient should be intubated electively or emergency basis and to compare the outcome & complication of each group. This study is also intended to correlate the factors which affect outcome of intubation age, sex, nature of underlying disease. The timing of doing the intubation procedure has also been evaluated as a prognostic parameter.
