The Law of Radiance: Before and Essential to The Law of Attraction

The Law of Radiance: Before and Essential to The Law of Attraction

"To attract, we must first radiate. To radiate, we must be aware of who we truly are".In today's modern, hectic world, the ego has taken centre stage. We focus on getting rather than giving; we worship the physical; we've forgotten our true origins. We've misplaced our consciousness, our beingness. But these things are not lost. They are within us-they are us. We just need to remember how to connect with them. Written by spiritual expert Anne M Hassett, Law of Radiance guides you through the process of rediscovering your inner self and recognising the strength and impact of your thoughts, feelings and emotions. It's a timely reminder that we all have huge power within ourselves to heal, to radiate and attract love, and to channel our inner Source for good. Our true self is never gone. We can always be more than we think we are. And in recognising that, we stand on the threshold of a golden era.
Minds in Motion

Minds in Motion

The central claim of Minds in Motion is that British travel writing of the long eighteenth century functions as an epistemological playing field where authors test empiricist models of engagement with the world while simultaneously seeking out the role of the self and the imagination in producing knowledge. Whether exploring the relationship between the senses and the mind, the narrative viability of experimental detachment, or the literary dynamics of virtual witnessing, eighteenth-century travel authors persistently confront their positionality and raise difficult questions about the nature and value of first-hand experience. In one way or another, they also complicate empiricist ideals by exploring the limits of individual perception and the role of the imagination in generating and relating knowledge. While the genre is often viewed as either numbingly documentary or non-literary and commercial, travel literature actually operates at the front line of the period’s intellectual developments, illustrating both how individual writers grapple with philosophical ideals and how these ideals filter into the lives of ordinary people. Indeed, travel literature directly engages the scientific and philosophical concerns of the period, while it is also widely, avidly read; as such, it offers models for cognitive and rhetorical practices that are evaluated and either embraced or rejected by readers (in a process of identification not unlike that which occurs in early English fiction). Moreover, because eighteenth-century travel literature is so crucial to the development of so many fields—from botany to the novel—it illustrates vividly the divisive energies of discipline and genre formation while also archiving the shared aims and methods of what will become discrete fields of study. Travelogues as diverse as Margaret Cavendish’s Blazing World (1666) and Samuel Johnson’s Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland (1775) reveal the epistemological circuitry of the eighteenth century and historicize the absorption of the philosophical tendencies that have come to define modernity.

As learners with special educational, developmental, and behavioral needs are increasingly integrated into the community, it is essential that appropriate and dignified ways of responding to their needs are found. This book advocates and explores the use of alternative, nonaversive intervention procedures, demonstrating through case histories how appropriate methods can yield positive results, even for those with the most challenging behavioral problems. It will be of exceptional value to professionals in the field, as a resource for program administrators, residential care providers, rehabilitation counselors, and parents, and as a text for preservice personnel.
The Origins of Women's Activism

The Origins of Women's Activism

Boylan Anne M.

The University of North Carolina Press

Competition and cooperation among the first women's groups; Tracing the deep roots of women's activism in America, Anne Boylan explores the flourishing of women's volunteer associations in the decades following the Revolution. She examines the entire spectrum of early nineteenth-century women's groups - Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish; African American and white; middle and working class - to illuminate the ways in which race, religion, and class could bring women together in pursuit of common goals or drive them apart. Boylan interweaves analyses of more than seventy organizations in New York and Boston with the stories of the women who founded and led them. In so doing, she provides a new understanding of how these groups actually worked and how women's associations, especially those with evangelical Protestant leanings, helped define the gender system of the new republic. She also demonstrates as never before how women in leadership positions combined volunteer work with their family responsibilities, how they raised and invested the money their organizations needed, and how they gained and used political influence in an era when women's citizenship rights were tightly circumscribed.
Fatherhood Arrested

Crime and young fatherhood have generally been viewed as separate social problems. Increasingly, researchers are finding that these problems are closely related and highly concentrated in low-income communities. This volume is an in-depth study of these issues and the difficulties of parenting while in prison and on parole. By taking us inside the prison system, the author shows how its structure actively shapes an inmate's relationship with his children. For example, visitation is sometimes restricted to blood relatives and wives. Because relationships between unmarried men and the mothers of their children are often strained, some mothers are unwilling to allow their children to go to the prison with the inmate's family. Or the father may be allowed to receive visits from only one ""girlfriend"", which forces a man with multiple relationships, or with children by different women, to make impossible choices. Special attention is paid to the gendered nature of prison, its patriarchal and punitive structure, and its high-stress environment. The book then follows newly paroled men as they are released and return to their children.

This volume offers 18 essays on women as writers or as objects of representation in the English Renaissance. By analyzing the ways in which women are treated both in the traditional canon and in writings hitherto excluded, the book establishes a broader context for the interpretation of these writings. At the same time, the essays treat texts as cultural documents that raise questions about English politics, religion, economics and power relations. Together, the pieces reveal much about the gender system operating in Renaissance England and the range of women's experience during this period. The book explores the interrelated subject of women's visibility/invisibility, empowerment/suppression and voice/silencing and also documents the efforts of individual women who engaged, not necessarily consciously, in the creation and recreation of a female cultural presence and discusses differences and similarities between male and female representations of women's experience. The book is arranged in five sections. Part 1 explores women's voices in three literary genres. Part 2 examines portrayals of female empowerment, suppression and resistance in Renaissance drama. In part 3, the authors look at the woman ruler, discussing both her authority and her limitations. Part 4 treats the repression of women in the private sphere and part 5 addresses the voices and silences of women in texts by male and female writers of the Sidney family. The final chapter is an annotated bibliography covering women writers from 1500 to 1640. It establishes the current parameters of scholarship in this area and suggests directions for future research and publishing.

Victimology is a relatively new and emerging interdisciplinary area that crosses the fields of criminology, law, sociology, and justice. Written by one of the world’s leading experts on victimology, this book is designed to offer a broad introduction to the subject. Unlike other texts that are organized around different types of victimization, this book is informed by a victim-centred approach that treats victims’ rights as human rights.
