The Enigma of Clarence Thomas is a groundbreaking revisionist take on the Supreme Court justice everyone knows about but no one knows. "One of the marvels of Robin's razor-sharp book is how carefully he marshals his evidence.... It isn't every day that reading about ideas can be both so gratifying and unsettling." - The New York Times Most people can tell you two things about Clarence Thomas: Anita Hill accused him of sexual harassment, and he almost never speaks from the bench. Here are some things they don't know: Thomas is a black nationalist. In college he memorized the speeches of Malcolm X. He believes white people are incurably racist. In the first examination of its kind, Corey Robin- one of the foremost analysts of the right (The Reactionary Mind) - delves deeply into both Thomas's biography and his jurisprudence, masterfully reading his Supreme Court opinions against the backdrop of his autobiographical and political writings and speeches. The hidden source of Thomas's conservative views, Robin shows, is a profound skepticism that racism can be overcome. Thomas is convinced that any government action on behalf of African-Americans will be tainted by racism; the most African-Americans can hope for is that white people will get out of their way. There's a reason, Robin concludes, why liberals often complain that Thomas doesn't speak but seldom pay attention when he does. Were they to listen, they'd hear a racial pessimism that often sounds similar to their own. Cutting across the ideological spectrum, this unacknowledged consensus about the impossibility of progress is key to understanding today's political stalemate.

The 18th century was a wealth of knowledge, exploration and rapidly growing technology and expanding record-keeping made possible by advances in the printing press. In its determination to preserve the century of revolution, Gale initiated a revolution of its own: digitization of epic proportions to preserve these invaluable works in the largest archive of its kind. Now for the first time these high-quality digital copies of original 18th century manuscripts are available in print, making them highly accessible to libraries, undergraduate students, and independent scholars.Western literary study flows out of eighteenth-century works by Alexander Pope, Daniel Defoe, Henry Fielding, Frances Burney, Denis Diderot, Johann Gottfried Herder, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, and others. Groffudd Talfryn is a con man who aims to have his black Labrador Retriever, Dylan, become an international champion and in turn, make him very wealthy. His plan is thwarted by Bubbling Bedouine (Deuce's great-grandfather) who instigates his own devious scheme to win the championship. Bubbling then fathers a litter of pups which bring a high price, and the pick of the litter (Deuce's grandfather) goes to a hilarious couple from Cleveland, Ohio. As generations of these dog prodigies grow, the tales that follow include a bank robber, a schemer seeking romance, a handsome sea captain and awesome sea stories, an incredible pumpkin festival, and children fighting their own "Battle of the Alamo." Book I - The Progenitors shares humorous stories involving the amazing ancestors of a beloved real-life Labrador retriever to reveal the legacy behind his own adventures.

In The Education of Clarence Three Stars Philip Burnham tells the life story of the remarkable Packs the Dog, a member of the Minneconjou Lakotas who was born in 1864 east of the Black Hills. His father, Yellow Knife, died when the boy was five, and the family eventually enrolled at Pine Ridge Agency with the Oglalas under an uncle’s name, Three Stars. In 1879 Packs the Dog joined the first class of Indian students to be admitted to the Carlisle Indian Industrial School. An enthusiastic student, Clarence Three Stars, as he would come to be known, was one of five Lakota children who volunteered to stay at Carlisle after the three-year plan of instruction was finished-though he eventually left the school in frustration. Three Stars returned to Pine Ridge and married Jennie Dubray, another Carlisle veteran, and they had seven children. The life of Lakota advocate Three Stars spanned a time of dramatic change for Native Americans, from the pre-reservation period through the Dawes Act of 1887 until just before the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934. Three Stars was a teacher, interpreter, catechist, lawyer, and politician who lived through the federal policy of American Indian assimilation in its many guises, including boarding school education, religious conversion, land allotment, and political reorganization. He used the fundamentals of his own boarding school education to advance the welfare of the Oglala Lakota people, even when his efforts were deemed threatening or subversive. His dedication to justice, learning, and self-governance informed a distinguished career of classroom excellence and political advocacy on his home reservation of Pine Ridge.

Many brief tales combine into a micro-saga of the Twins, Chelsea and Clarence. A deceptively short book full of thoughtful fun Julesworks are (in this instance) PQ Ribber and Stephen Jules Rubin, who somehow combine forces despite the implausibility of said collaboration, including this write-up. The characters were originally created in Portland, Oregon with Jules and Yvette Tourangeau, in a park, using small notebooks. Sister-less, Jules always thought having a sister would be neat and took it a step further...so the male/female dynamo twin duo were created. Jules ran with the characters and some random adventures for a bit and then teamed with PQ. Over many years, short tales were written and revised, with a special shout out to the late Amanda DeAngeles for helping PQ with editing and and now, thanks to the guidance of Trent Zelazny, this novella is being released. Mentioned in this novella are other characters from the Jules/Ribber universe including a Jules himself and the Jackson Five, implying perhaps more novellas in this vein might be to come. Whatever happens in the future, we hope you enjoy this dreamy, strange novella telling of the twins Chelsea and Clarence and their immediate clan.
