'Some of the most beautiful prose being written in Ireland today' Irish TimesLorraine would say afterwards that she was smitten straight off with Paddy Farrell. You could tell that he was occupying the room in a different way, he found the spaces that fitted him. She was the kind of girl the papers called vivacious, always a bit of dazzle to her.Could she not see there was death about him? Could he not see there was death about her? Paddy worked the border, a place of road closures, hijackings, sudden death. Everything bootleg and tawdry, nobody is saying that the law is paid off but it is. This is strange terrain, unsolid, ghosted through. There's illicit cash coming across the border and Brendan's backstreet Bureau de Change is the place to launder it. Brendan knows the rogue lawyers, the nerve shot policemen, the alcoholic judges and he doesn't care about getting caught. For the Bureau crew getting caught is only the start of the game.Paddy and his associates were a ragged band and honourless and their worth to themselves was measured in thievery and fraud. But Lorraine was not a girl to be treated lightly. She's cast as a minx, a criminal's moll but she's bought a shotgun. And she's bought a grave.

A brilliantly funny story of facing your fears from the picture book team behind The Case of the Missing Cake.Terry is not an octopus. He's just a regular guy with a few extra arms. Yes, he loves tuna and yes, he'd love to visit Super Octopus Fantasea Adventure World. But octopuses live in the sea. And Terry is afraid of water. Maybe he should learn to swim?A very silly story about being brave, facing your fears and accepting who you really are.

Can a scaredy octopus in denial embrace his true identity? A goofy octopod finally dares to take the plunge--and dip his tentacles into the water he fears. Terry is definitely not an octopus. He's just a regular guy who happens to have a few extra limbs and a love of canned tuna. But again, he is NOT an octopus. If he were an octopus, he'd be living in the ocean, right? Not to mention going to Super Octopus Fantasea Adventure World. He definitely wouldn't be on land, unless he was afraid of the water. Which he absolutely isn't OK, maybe, just maybe, it's time he learned how to swim? Kids will smile at this very silly story about being brave, facing your fears, and accepting who you really are.
The Functional Screening Solution.: The Ultimate 'Cook Book' Approach to fix Faulty Movement, prevent injury and set a base for performance
'Eoin Everard has compiled an impressive text following a logical progression from screening to correcting movement imbalance. His work has very much a practical focus. It will be a regular reference for the variety of corrective strategies that may be used to help promote better functional movement. The domain of functional screening and the prescription of corrective progressions is one that has become popular in not just sport but in general exercise. Eoin's text and logical progressions add to this body of work and I highly recommend this to the clinician and strength and conditioning coach.'' Dr. Liam Hennessy (Former Head of Strength and conditioning of Irish Rugby).

A cabal of tech-billionaires is colluding with once-idealistic journalists to create an entirely new media landscape. Matt Taibbi used to take on the rich and powerful, but today, his reporting is crafted to please grievance-addicted American conservatives. Glenn Greenwald, whose reporting on the Snowden leaks arguably changed the course of history, has similarly taken a hard right turn. Yet these political transformations of journalists formerly associated with the left did not happen in a vacuum. The new mouthpieces of the right are paid and disseminated by an emerging "alternative" media ecosystem, funded by a cohort of billionaires whose goal is to censor critics, so these new plutocrats can pursue their businesses--and personal vendettas--entirely unimpeded. Owned is the story of the underreported collaboration between the new wealth and the new journalism. Right-wing billionaires like Marc Andreessen, David Sacks, Peter Thiel, and Elon Musk use their wealth to fund journalists--like Taibbi and Greenwald--who exploit the failings of traditional journalism and social media. This unholy alliance has undermined the very idea of an independent and fact-based press while ostensibly standing up for principles of liberty and free speech. A biting expos of journalist greed and tech-billionaire ambition, Owned follows the money, and offers a chilling portrait of the future social media and news landscape, empty of all critique, except for newly empowered right-wing commentators.

Charlie Small is a DJ on a local radio station. He's good at what he does and unimpressed by those who aren't. He doesn't like the station manager, and the feeling is mutual. Charlie doesn't have much regard for the station's owner, Hamilton Knox, either-and the DJ knows something his boss would rather he didn't. Still, it's Christmas Day, a time for goodwill and celebration. A fellow can have a drink or three at Christmas, surely. And for the imaginative person in search of a good time, there's more than one use for a radio studio. The lovely Hollie Dale, Charlie's producer, just wants things to run smoothly. She likes her job and would prefer to hold on to it, but can she keep Charlie on the leash? It could turn out to be an interesting day. In this novel, a radio DJ comes to work drunk on Christmas and sets off a chain of events that changes the lives of everyone at the radio station.

Pick your favourite Roy Keane moment. The header against Juventus? The tunnel clash with Patrick Vieira? The bone-crunching challenge on Marc Overmars at Lansdowne Road? All worthy choices that complement his aggressive, combative warrior persona. But that was Version 2.0. Keane: Origins delves into the inexplicable story of what came before. Focusing on the period between 1988 and 1993, charting Keane's journey from an economically-ravaged Cork to a spectacular three-season spell under Brian Clough at Nottingham Forest via a memorable stint on a government-funded training scheme and brief spell in the League of Ireland. With contributions from former team-mates, coaches and those who knew him best, Keane: Origins examines a largely over-looked, under-appreciated and unheralded time in the legendary midfielder's career that set him on the path to immortality.

In 1793, George Macartney introduced two of the leading empires of his age, and set off one of the greatest power shifts in history. ‘Kowtow: Georgian Britain, Imperial China and the Irishman who Introduced Them’ tells the story of Macartney, Britain's first Ambassador to China, and his career that spanned the globe, from the Caribbean to India, from Brazil to Indonesia, and then finally through China to Peking. Kowtow explains why Macartney’s embassy was needed, and examines the nature and personalities of the Ambassador and his imperial host, the Emperor Qianlong. The reader will journey with Macartney across the world into Peking’s Summer Palace, before crossing over the Great Wall to Qianlong’s summer hunting grounds in Rehe. The story of the Macartney mission provides significant lessons for modern diplomatic engagements and trade relations, and still causes great reverberations today. As a result, his mission represents one of the major missed opportunities in history and the challenges faced by Macartney still finds echoes in relations between China and the West.
Catholic Survival in Protestant Ireland, 1660-1711
Overturns established thinking that the Catholic elite were all expropriated and excluded from civil and political life as the Protestant Ascendancy was established. Traditional accounts of early modern Ireland have traced the seemingly inevitable decline of the Catholic landed interest following the Cromwellian and Williamite wars of the seventeenth century, portraying the Irish Catholic community as leaderless and politically moribund in the decades after the surrender of Limerick in 1691. This book demonstrates, however, that the picture was considerably more complex. By taking advantage of the upheavals in Irish landownership of the 1650s, many Catholics not only survived, but thrived. Having emerged as leaders of the Irish Catholic interest during the 1680s, these landowners refused to go into exile following the surrender of the Jacobites. They do not fit neatly into the archetype of the dispossessed and discontented Irish Catholic, offering instead an alternative perspective on Irish Jacobitism. Using the career of Colonel John Browne of Westport House as a focalpoint, this book casts new light on a wide range of subjects, including Catholic opposition to the repeal of the Restoration land settlement, the Irish Jacobite civil and military administration, estate management in late seventeenth-century Ireland, and the creation of lobbying networks in Dublin and London by Irish Catholics. The book also provides a detailed examination of the Williamite peace settlement in Ireland, and highlights the deeply interconnected nature of Irish society in the late seventeenth century. Possibility Exists ... , The - One Man`s Search for Freedom
In 2004, Eoin Scolard trusted his intuition and walked away from a six-figure salary. 'The Possibility Exists ...' is a practical and sometimes humorous look at how his concept of self was broken open, and how he learned profound spiritual and philosophical concepts from unlikely sources. Eoin says, The Possibility Exists ...that you'll enjoy the searing honesty of my writing, sprinkled with Irish humour, deep wisdom, fun and foolishness. But then again, The Possibility Exists ...that you'll throw your hands up in the air and proclaim that this is the most boring book you've ever read!" As you can tell, Eoin avoids taking it all too seriously, because, he says, Self-help can become obsessive and actually be a hindrance to your enjoyment of life."

Thousands are homeless, tens of thousands are languishing on social housing waiting lists, even more are unable to afford to rent or buy. Why is our housing system so dysfunctional? Why can it not meet social and affordable housing needs? Home: Why Public Housing is the Answer examines the structural causes of our housing emergency, provides a detailed critique of government housing policy from the 1980s to the present and outlines a comprehensive, practical and radical alternative that would meet the housing needs of the many, not just the few. For three decades Government policy has been marked by an undersupply of social housing and an over-reliance on the private market to meet housing needs. Housing has become a commodity, not a public good. The result is a dysfunctional housing system that is leaving more and more people unable to access appropriate, secure and affordable homes. The answer, as argued in this transformative new book, lies in establishing a Constitutional right to housing, large scale investment in a new model of public housing to meet social and affordable housing need, real reform of the private rental sector and regulation of private finance, development and land.
