One bush cop, three dead bodies, and a monster on the loose. Constable Chris Taylor runs a one-cop station in the remote, high-country town of Jarrajarra. With little to do beyond traffic duty and the occasional welfare check, he has found some much needed calm in his life after a violent end to his military career. But, when a barbaric triple murder plunges the town into chaos, the search for truth forces Taylor into a menacing labyrinth of lies, drug money and dirty cops. Can he unearth the truth? Or will he be dragged down into the violent chaos that has erupted in his once peaceful town? THE BLACK MIST brings to life a cast of quirky characters, unexpected plot twists, and plenty of irreverent humour. This novel is not to be missed. Get your copy today.

It's all here in this book.Politics, truth, philosophy, religion, morality, who we really are... all these topics and more are answered by Pridham's Giant Computer. Not only does the Giant Computer answer our questions, it also tells illustrative stories to help us understand what it meant. What sounded complex becomes clear.

How to Feel Better... Realistically is a no-nonsense guide on how to feel better no matter what life throws at you.The chief recommendation of the book is that we should be realistic. Other guides to happiness and feeling better have recommended techniques such as positive thinking, positive psychology, mindfulness, living in the present, chasing your dreams, and so on, but none of these work reliably over the long run. How to Feel Better... Realistically moves forward from these approaches to provide genuine, workable, practical answers to all of life's difficulties. No issue is shied away from. Nothing is left hidden. Everything is brought out into the open and fully answered.Every issue of life is covered, including all the ineffective ways we may try to be happy, difficulties with other people, bad events happening in the world and our own lives, illness, accidents, mistakes, our own lack of abilities, aging, and our mortality. Practical, realistic ways to feel better about each of these issues are completely explained. The role the subconscious plays in our decisions and view of life is fully examined. Solutions are given on how to cooperatively lead our subconscious towards better feelings for us and itself. How to Feel Better... Realistically also gives the best ways to deal with other people, including the difficult and the not-so-difficult "normal" ones. It explains why we spend so much of our time looking for what is bad and what we can do about this. It advises how we can understand and improve how we feel about the world's "unfixable" problems. Finally, it gives practical advice on when it is worthwhile to follow our dreams and the best way we can do it.How to Feel Better... Realistically is entirely realistic in its approach. Its solutions work in all circumstances and keep working over the long run.

After many recitals in caravan parks, retirement villages and day care centres, I was encouraged by several people to gather my poems into a book. Personally, I did not think the poems were worthy of amassing in a book, but during the Covid pandemic of 2021, I decided to make enquiries of creating a book of my poems. I wanted to share some life experiences with the general public in a form God gifted me. My uncle on my mother's side was a gifted poet and a man I was close to during my teenage years. He inspired my start in poetry writing and to him I will be ever grateful. My hope is that readers will recall some instances in their lives sparked by my poems. Feedback on my first book, Australian Bush Poetry, has been very encouraging, and many have recalled incidents in their younger years, similar to the stories in my poems.I have always believed in sharing knowledge with others, and this book is a case in point. Not many Australians experience life in the Outback and my poems may give a slight insight into the world I love. Poetry is a form of story- telling, a form of entertainment to the reader and a sharing of data from the writer to the reader. I am not writing poems to make money, instead the opposite is the truth. I keep a list of the feedback I have been given from my readers and this is my reward. I enjoyed writing these poems for you and I hope you enjoy reading them.

Fair Dinkum Mates Tales is a composite of short stories and anecdotes experienced over a lifetime from before, during and after the Baby Boomer years. Break Up. Break Down. Break Through.
Break Up. Break Down. Break Through. is a must-read for anyone who has loved and lost. Geoff Olds makes himself entirely vulnerable in this raw articulation of his journey from rock bottom to rebirth. Powerful, honest and necessarily confronting, this collection of poems and musings will lead you on your own path to self-betterment. From page one, Geoff Olds manages to bleed onto the paper in a way that is both powerful and poetic. You'll journey with him through his darkest moments; witnessing his battle with hedonism, rejection, divorce and depression. Then, hold your breath as he fearlessly fights to rise from the ashes. His willingness to blazingly share it all - his grief, shame, despair and self-deprecation - will leave you feeling both uncomfortable and unable to put the book down. Geoff Olds manages to share every crevasse of his suffering. And, as you read his collection of poems and musings, you get a sense you're reading from his personal diary. Prepare to be provoked by a book that will stir many things in you: sadness, shock, sympathy and self-reflection. Part one 'Break Up.' will undoubtedly hit home for anyone who has experienced the collapse of a relationship. With heavy words and heaving pages, Geoff Olds pours out his lament without holding back. The depth of grief that he shares will leave you pausing for breath after each page. Then, in part two 'Break Down.', Geoff Olds wrestles with his inner demons. Held under the weight of self-loathing and self-destruction, Geoff invites you to be privy to his deepest and darkest moments. It's in these pages that you realise Geoff Olds isn't just a brilliant poet, but a brilliant mind. He dissects his consciousness in a way that many people wouldn't be capable of (or fearless enough to); and articulates it in a masterful, tangible way.By the time you reach part three, 'Break Through.', it becomes clear how necessarily vivid the former verses needed to be. After experiencing the depth of his agony, his rebirth is made eminently more powerful. Here, in these moments of redemption, Geoff Olds shifts his tone from confronting to cathartic. It's a shining message of hope, hard work and hanging on no matter what - and it will resonate with anyone who has suffered. As a successful entrepreneur and advocate for men's mental health, it's no wonder that Geoff Olds is so equipped to tell this story. The reader is forced to open themselves up and prepare for their own personal journey of reconciliation. The sheer brilliance of Break Up. Break Down. Break Through. is its ability to catalyst a 'phoenix rising from the ashes' moment in anyone.

'Ladies and Gentlemen, this is your Surgeon speaking'
This book explores the parallels between the aircraft flight deck and the surgical operating theatre, examining, through past aviation accidents and incidents, whether medicine and surgery could benefit from the lessons learnt in aviation. It looks at modern day pilot training, particularly in the area of 'Human Factors' or the science of 'why we do what we do' i.e. how do humans perform under stress in terms of decision making, teamwork, leadership, situational awareness and communication? The author is uniquely placed in these fields currently in his role as an International Airline Pilot, with some 30 years of Aviation experience, the last 18 years as a Training Captain, but also, prior to his career in Aviation, when he completed his General Nursing training at the Royal North Hospital in Sydney. He has worked extensively in the operating theatre enabling him to see potential benefits for surgical practice from Human Factors training. The book firstly highlights the similarities shared by flight deck and the operating theatre in terms of chain of command, use of technology and the pressures faced by both professional spheres. It then looks at various aspects of human behaviour, using aircraft accidents and incidents to highlight those behaviours, while exploring the potential relevance to surgical and medical practice.

The recent economic crisis was a dramatic reminder that capitalism can both produce and destroy. It's a system that by its very nature encourages predators and creators, locusts and bees. But, as Geoff Mulgan argues in this compelling, imaginative, and important book, the economic crisis also presents a historic opportunity to choose a radically different future for capitalism, one that maximizes its creative power and minimizes its destructive force. In an engaging and wide-ranging argument, Mulgan digs into the history of capitalism across the world to show its animating ideas, its utopias and dystopias, as well as its contradictions and possibilities. Drawing on a subtle framework for understanding systemic change, he shows how new political settlements reshaped capitalism in the past and are likely to do so in the future. By reconnecting value to real-life ideas of growth, he argues, efficiency and entrepreneurship can be harnessed to promote better lives and relationships rather than just a growth in the quantity of material consumption. Healthcare, education, and green industries are already becoming dominant sectors in the wealthier economies, and the fields of social innovation, enterprise, and investment are rapidly moving into the mainstream--all indicators of how capital could be made more of a servant and less a master. This is a book for anyone who wonders where capitalism might be heading next--and who wants to help make sure that its future avoids the mistakes of the past.

A new field of collective intelligence has emerged in the last few years, prompted by a wave of digital technologies that make it possible for organizations and societies to think at large scale. This "bigger mind"--human and machine capabilities working together--has the potential to solve the great challenges of our time. So why do smart technologies not automatically lead to smart results? Gathering insights from diverse fields, including philosophy, computer science, and biology, Big Mind reveals how collective intelligence can guide corporations, governments, universities, and societies to make the most of human brains and digital technologies. Geoff Mulgan explores how collective intelligence has to be consciously organized and orchestrated in order to harness its powers. He looks at recent experiments mobilizing millions of people to solve problems, and at groundbreaking technology like Google Maps and Dove satellites. He also considers why organizations full of smart people and machines can make foolish mistakes--from investment banks losing billions to intelligence agencies misjudging geopolitical events--and shows how to avoid them. Highlighting differences between environments that stimulate intelligence and those that blunt it, Mulgan shows how human and machine intelligence could solve challenges in business, climate change, democracy, and public health. But for that to happen we'll need radically new professions, institutions, and ways of thinking. Informed by the latest work on data, web platforms, and artificial intelligence, Big Mind shows how collective intelligence could help us survive and thrive.
