Indo-Nepal sub Himalayan international border region of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, PTR is one of the largest forest covers of the province and having several plants growing in the vicinity of dense forests. These plants are having unique properties due to the presence of particular alkaloids for the treatment of numerous human and veterinary ailments. Ethnic and local people are using these herbal remedies for the treatment of most of their health problems which is based on their generations long experiences. Most of their practices are self employed and provide promising solutions for their health issues. The present manuscript is a compilation of years long findings of the author through frequent field visits and lab research.Most of the remedial methods are very new to the civilized society and needs their full attention for the future therapeutic development. Also the modern scientific world should be more attentive to draw every possible use of them through chemical isolation and clinical research. State and Central governments have already begun a research and development program for every possible task to publish and document these herbal therapies for their Conservation.

India is considered as one of the megabiodiversity hot spot and having 3rd position among the world. In the present book major wild and cultivated plants having multiple usage have been enumerated. Apart from timber many plants are providing Non Timber Forest Products (NTFP'S) like gums, resins, dyes, house building materials, fodder, grasses, baskets, brooms, fish stupifying substances, water bottles etc. Ethnic and rural people oftenly use these NTFP's and also sold them in the nearby markets for their earnings.Many of these plants have unique features of usage in certain household industries like mats, baskets, ropes, handicrafts, storage containers, hand paintings, dye and coloring, local Ethnic paintings, homemade medicines and hand picked honey bottles. In addition to it, hand made ornamental articles are also made by them from natural materials of plants origin and sold them in nearby markets, seasonal fairs and exhibitions etc.The chief motive of this book under "Ethnobotany in the Welfare of Mankind" project, is to compile the findings of our research projects for the dissemination and documentation of this generations old traditional knowledge for the future reference

The aim of the undertaken research work was to synthesise molecules, which could have capability of inhibiting growth of bacteria and fungi. Pechmann and Duisberg method was used to synthesise 7-hydroxy-4-methyl chromen-2-one. Ethyl 2-(4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yloxy) acetate was synthesized by the reaction between ethylchloroacetate and 7-hydroxy-4-methyl chromen-2-one in presence of acetone and anhydrous K2CO3. 4-Methyl-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yloxy)-acetic acid hydrazide (3) was synthesized from Ethyl 2-(4-methyl-2-oxo-2H-chromen-7-yloxy) acetate and 85% NH2 NH2 .H2O in ethanol as a solvent. Compounds (4a-4l), were synthesised by reaction of compound (3) with various aldehydes and isatin in acetic acid-ethanol as solvents. The sharp melting points, TLC, HPTLC and IR & 1H NMRspectral analysis confirmed the purity and homogeneity of all the title compounds. The synthesised compounds were obtained in solid state in yield varying from 61 to 88 %. In case of antibacterial activity compound 4e was found to be the most active compound among the entire series against Staphylococcus aureus.In case of antifungal activity compound 4l was found to be the most active.
