ORCS GREYSHALKS AND GIANTS Prepare yourselves, intrepid reader, for three complete novelettes set in the Abyss Walker world of author Shane Moore. Tracy. You'll also be treated to a short story from a very unique point of view-an arrow in flight: "Unerring" by Patrick S. Tomlinson; and as a bonus, an excerpt from the novella, "The Wererat's Tale: Book III: The Collar of Perdition" by Patrick S. Tomlinson, which was written from an outline penned by the creator of the Abyss Walker World, Shane Moore himself.Orcs, greyshalks, and giants (and wererats) will never be the same You will love this book especially if you enjoyed the Orcs novel series by the awesome Stan Nicholls: Orcs: Army of Shadows; Orcs: Bad Blood, or The Thousand Orcs (Forgotten Realms: The Hunter's Blades Trilogy, Book 1) by New York Times' bestselling author R.A. Salvatore; or Queen of the Orcs: Kings Property by Morgan Howell. If you're a game player or game master and enjoyed The Slayer's Guide To Orcs by Matt Forbeck and Ralph Horsley you will love this
The Texture of Industry

The Texture of Industry

While historians have given ample attention to stories of entrepreneurship, invention, and labor conflict, they have told us little about actual work-places and how people worked. Workers seldom wrote about their daily employment. However, they did leave behind their tools, products, shops, and factories as well as the surrounding industrial landscapes and communities. In this book, Gordon and Malone look at the industrialization of North America fro the perspective of the industrial archaeologist. Using material evidence from such varied sites as Indian steatite quarries, automobile plants, and coal mines, they examine manufacturing technology, transportation systems, and the effects of industrialization on the land. Their research greatly expands our understanding of industry and focuses attention on the contributions of anonymous artisans whose skills shaped our industrial heritage.

The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) region is one of the fastest growing areas of the world. Larger than the European Economic Community in population, the ASEAN member states of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand are likely to surpass that region as a U.S. trading partner by the turn of the century. Authors Hans H. Indorf and Patrick M. Mayerchak examine the relationship between the United States and ASEAN in terms of opportunities for and limits of cooperation. This book is a comprehensive political and economic introduction to the critically important Southeast Asian region. Because of its up-to-date economic data and relevant policy recommendations, it will appeal to members of the business and government communities. The volume opens with an analysis of general development variables and progresses to problems of the national economies of the ASEAN member states and the characteristics of U.S. bilateral relations with the region. The first three chapters establish a data base for an analysis of the current situation and identify problems and prospects. The chapters that follow explore the obstacles to U.S. relations as well as positive external factors. The activities of international organizations, major trading nations, and ASEAN itself are also scrutinized. In conclusion, the authors offer possible measures the U.S. and ASEAN could take to improve a stagnating relationship. This book will be valuable supplementary reading in courses on Southeast Asia, international organizations, comparative political and economic systems, and economic development.

Now in its second edition, Nuclear Forensic Analysis provides a multidisciplinary reference for forensic scientists, analytical and nuclear chemists, and nuclear physicists in one convenient source. The authors focus particularly on the chemical, physical, and nuclear aspects associated with the production or interrogation of a radioactive sample. They consolidate fundamental principles of nuclear forensic analysis, all pertinent protocols and procedures, computer modeling development, interpretational insights, and attribution considerations. The principles and techniques detailed are then demonstrated and discussed in their applications to real-world investigations and casework conducted over the past several years. Highlights of the Second Edition include: A new section on sample analysis considerations and interpretation following a post-detonation nuclear forensic collectionNew case studies, including the most wide-ranging and multidisciplinary nuclear forensic investigation conducted by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to dateExpanded treatments of radiologic dispersal devices (RDDs) and statistical analysis methodologies The material is presented with minimal mathematical formality, using consistent terminology with limited jargon, making it a reliable, accessible reference. The broad-based coverage provides important insight into the multifaceted changes facing this recently developed science.

This book is intended as a thoughtful extension to Bachman et al.'s well-received monograph Smoking, Drinking, and Drug Use in Young Adulthood. That volume showed that the new freedoms of young adulthood lead to increases in substance use, while the responsibilities of adulthood--marriage, pregnancy, parenthood--contribute to declines in substance use. The Decline of Substance Use in Young Adulthood examines how the changes in social and religious experiences and in attitudes toward substance use observed among young adults are related to changes in substance use, family transitions, living arrangements, college experience, and employment. The research uses a variety of analysis techniques and is based on the nationwide Monitoring the Future surveys of more than 38,000 young people followed from high school into adulthood. The research covers the last quarter of the 20th century, a period when drug use and views about drugs underwent many important changes. In spite of these shifts, the overall patterns of relationships reported in this book are impressive in their consistency across time and in their general similarity for men and women.Specific questions addressed include the following: *As young adults experience new freedoms and responsibilities, do their attitudes about drugs change? *Do their religious views and behaviors shift? *Do their new freedoms and responsibilities affect the amount of time they spend in social activities, including going to parties and bars? *And how are any of these changes linked to changes in cigarette use, alcohol use, marijuana use, and cocaine use?

The modified mouthparts group is perhaps the largest of the four major Hawaiian Drosophila clades, yet has received relatively little taxonomic attention during the past 40 years. This study reviews unplaced species and the ceratostoma, freycinetiae, semifuscata, and setiger subgroups, with descriptions of 22 new species. We hope this work encourages greater study of the biology of this important group.

Does success in school protect teenagers from drug use? Does drug use impair scholastic success? This book tackles a key issue in adolescent development and health - the education-drug use connection. The authors examine the links and likely causal connections between educational experiences, delinquent behavior, and adolescent use of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, and cocaine. The book uses data from the University of Michigan's Monitoring the Future project. It focuses on a large and nationally representative sample of 8th grade students in the United States who were initially surveyed in 1991-1993 and then followed over the vitally important developmental period between ages 14 and 22. The volume uses a variety of statistical analysis techniques, and the findings can be understood by individuals with limited, as well as with extensive, backgrounds in research design. The findings convincingly demonstrate that if young people can be successful in school, it can improve a broad range of outcomes in their lives, not the least of which is their ability to resist pressures to use drugs. The book provides: a summary of the findings and conclusions; a review of relevant literature; a detailed discussion of the survey and analysis methods; the academic attainment of those in the longitudinal panel; the delinquent behaviors of panel members as they relate to measures of educational success; and the patterns of initiation, continuation, and cessation for each substance: cigarettes, marijuana, cocaine, and alcohol. This book is intended for anyone who deals with education and/or substance use, including educational, developmental, and social psychologists; sociologists; epidemiologists; educators; and policy makers. The analysis of panel survey data, using a variety of techniques, will also appeal to survey methodologists and students.
