This book provides a firm analytical base to discussions about injustice and the unequal distribution of gains from global production in the form of global monopsony capitalism. It utilizes the concept of reverse subsidies as the purchase of gendered labour and environmental services below their costs of production in garment value chains in India and other garment producing countries, such as Bangladesh and Cambodia. Environmental services, such as freshwater for garment manufacture and land for cotton production, are degraded by overuse and untreated waste disposal. The resulting higher profits from the low prices of garments are captured by global brands, using their monopsony position, with few buyers and myriad sellers, in the market. This book links the concept of reverse subsidies with those of injustice, inequality and sustainability in global production.
Gestion intégrée des ressources foncières et hydriques dans un canal de commandement
L'approvisionnement en eau dans le canal Hirakud (Inde orientale) n'est pas suffisant pour r pondre aux besoins d'irrigation des cultures hors mousson. Sur une base annuelle, l'approvisionnement en eau du canal ne peut satisfaire que 54 % de la demande d'irrigation un niveau de probabilit de d passement (PE) de 90 %. Par cons quent, afin d'att nuer le d ficit en eau d'irrigation, les eaux souterraines sont consid r es comme une source suppl mentaire. Une simulation quasi tridimensionnelle de l' coulement des eaux souterraines l'aide de Visual MODFLOW a t entreprise pour tudier le comportement des eaux souterraines. En outre, un mod le combin de simulation et d'optimisation a t entrepris pour d terminer le pompage maximal admissible des eaux souterraines. Un mod le d'allocation optimale des terres et des ressources en eau a ensuite t d velopp pour d terminer le sch ma de culture optimal permettant d'obtenir un rendement annuel net maximal. Les r sultats de la mod lisation sugg rent que les rendements annuels nets de la zone peuvent tre augment s de 51,3 et 12,5 % des niveaux d'EP de 10 et 90 %, respectivement, en adoptant des sch mas de culture optimaux et des strat gies de pompage optimales. L'adoption de mod les de culture optimaux et de strat gies de pompage optimales est fortement recommand e pour une gestion durable des terres disponibles et des ressources en eau du canal de commandement.

L'approvvigionamento idrico nel comando del canale di Hirakud (India orientale) non adeguato a soddisfare il fabbisogno irriguo delle colture non monsoniche. Su base annua, la fornitura di acqua del canale in grado di soddisfare solo il 54% della domanda di irrigazione al 90% di probabilit di superamento (PE). Pertanto, per mitigare il deficit di acqua per l'irrigazione, le acque sotterranee sono considerate una fonte supplementare. Per studiare il comportamento delle acque sotterranee stata effettuata una simulazione quasi tridimensionale del flusso delle acque sotterranee con Visual MODFLOW. Inoltre, stata intrapresa una modellazione combinata di simulazione e ottimizzazione per determinare il pompaggio massimo ammissibile delle acque sotterranee. stato poi sviluppato un modello di allocazione ottimale della terra e delle risorse idriche per determinare il modello di coltivazione ottimale che realizza il massimo rendimento netto annuale. I risultati della modellazione hanno suggerito che i rendimenti netti annuali dell'area possono essere aumentati rispettivamente del 51,3 e del 12,5% ai livelli di PE del 10 e del 90%, adottando modelli di coltivazione ottimali e strategie di pompaggio ottimali. L'adozione di modelli colturali ottimali e di strategie di pompaggio ottimali fortemente raccomandata per una gestione sostenibile della terra e delle risorse idriche disponibili del comando del canale.
