This book provides an overview of the advances on nanostructured celullose from different obtaining forms: natural plants and bacterial microorganisms. It gives the reader an introduction of cellulose focusing in nanosize particles, its potential applications and future perspectives. The potential use of cellulose in the biomedical field is highlighted.

This volume contains contributions illuminating much of the current research occurring in the area of visual perception. It encompasses all aspects of vision and its relationship to vehicle design, including both the internal and external design of the vehicle as well as the perceptual and cognitive limitations of the vehicle controller.Issues specifically related to the vision of the driver are initially addressed and the problems of vehicle glazing and light transmission are considered. The major topics of visual perception and vehicle control are covered in three related chapters encompassing: collision avoidance, vehicle signalling systems and the acquisition of visual information. Moving on to the external environment and its relationship to vision, traffic signs are discussed. Approaches to the measurement and modelling of driver behaviour are dealt with and the area of telerobotic control of vehicles is considered. In-vehicle displays are covered in two related chapters addressing issues of visual workload and effects of display type.It is hoped that the book, contributed to by experts from a diverse range of disciplines, including optometrists, psychologists, physiologists, human factors specialists and engineers, will stimulate the progression of research in this area, as effectively as the preceding volumes did.

The Seventh International Conference series on Vision in Vehicles was held in Marseilles in September 1997. This event was run in conjunction with the Applied Vision Association, the Ergonomics Society and with the participation of INRETS (Institut National de Recherche sur les Transports et leur Sécurité).This volume presents the selected and edited proceedings. The papers at the conference were ordered into sessions, from driver-specific aspects to interfacing with the new in-vehicle systems. These sessions are mirrored in the ordering of the chapters. The conference is long established and regularly draws representatives from the key international research centres working in this popular and diverse transportation area.
Alternative Treatments for Troubled Youth

Alternative Treatments for Troubled Youth

The purpose of this volume is to present the whole story of our research program on alternative interventions with delinquent youth. It is our goal to describe the development of an alternative intervention model, to examine its salient processes, to provide a test of its relative effective ness, and to give a description of its systemic impacts. The process described was based on the notion that improvement in our approaches to troubled youth lies in a systematic examination of the efficacy of innovative models. As the reader is probably aware, the history of inter ventions with troubled youth is more a record of failure than success. Thus, the search for alternatives is extremely critical. The book proceeds as a detailed research monograph. The first four chapters describe the historical and theoretical antecedents of the devel opment of the research program. Chapters 5 through 11 describe re search on the efficacy of alternative intervention approaches for delin quent youth, research on the impact on nonprofessional change agents, an attempt to integrate contemporary theoretical propositions about de linquency causation and the effects observed, and research examining the systemic consequences of providing innovative interventions to de linquent youth. The final chapter integrates the findings with contempo rary work and provides suggestions for future work.

The reader will get an overview of the past and present research in all fields of Surface Science. Readers not familiar with a given field will benefit from the tutorial character of the Introductions, as a rule present in every chapter. Throughout the book emphasis is mainly given to clean surfaces although sometimes adsorbate-covered surfaces are also accounted for. Many readers will be particularly interested in chapters dealing with recently developed topics (graphene, nanotubes, metal oxides, solid-liquid interfaces, theoretical simulations, manipulation of atoms at surfaces with the methods of scanning probe microscopy, Casimir effect, etc.), for which research is continuously evolving. As it is customary in the LB Series, the results obtained in a given field are quoted as thoroughly as possible. The most relevant among them are presented in the form of figures (or tables), and comments or comparisons with other results are usually provided.
