The depiction of women in Sandra Cisneros novel "The House On Mango Street"
Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 2 (B), University of Potsdam (Anglistics/ American Studies), course: Feminist Chicana Writing, 9 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: Sandra Cisneros is one of the most popular feminist Chicana writers. She was born in Chicago in 1954 as the only daughter among six brothers of a Mexican - American mother and a Mexican father. In her early childhood the family moved a lot between Chicago and Mexico City, where her grandparents lived, so Cisneros never felt at home anywhere. Hence, she spent most of her time reading for the family's mobility prevented the development of friendships. When she attended college in 1974 she started writing poetry and prose in a creative writing class. There she created a style of writing that was intentionally opposite to those of her classmates. After receiving her M.A. at the University of Iowa she worked in a Chicano barrio in Chicago teaching high school dropouts and later on as an administrative assistant at Loyola University Chicago. Today she lives in San Antonio and is working on a new novel. In the following the depiction of women in her novel "The House on Mango Street" will be examined. This novel consists of a series of vignettes describing the growing up of the young girl Esperanza in a barrio in Chicago as she herself reflects it with her youthful naivety. She characterises different people, particularly women respectively girls surrounding her in various situations and depicts the living conditions of the barrio in general. The different female characters appearing in the novel will be analysed in reference to their deprived situation concerning race, gender and class. To that end the author will initially give an insight into the image and role of women in the Mexican - American culture. Accordingly the analysis of the different characters acting in various situations against the background of this will follow. The li

No Controversy: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Sandra Clements
Celebrating the posthumous legacy of Sandra Clements is no easy task, as she was a notable champion of saving souls and challenging the notion that women should be subservient to men in ministry. Along with her husband of 50 years and the book's author, Dr. Kirby Clements Sr, the couple delighted in sharing the Gospel in a way that remains unforgettable to those they encountered in ministry and life. A nonconformist, Sandra had a passion for the justice, dignity and liberty of women. While the church leadership taught that men should rule over women, Sandra and her husband offered the notion of "co-laborship." No matter where their ministry travels took them, including Australia, Korea, Great Britain or South Africa, the one thing people will come to understand in this book is there was no controversy.
Paratexts and Performance in the Novels of Junot Díaz and Sandra Cisneros
Part of a new phase of post-1960s U.S. Latino literature, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz and Caramelo by Sandra Cisneros both engage in unique networks of paratexts that center on the performance of latinidad. Here, Ellen McCracken re-envisions Gérard Genette's paratexts for the present day, arguing that the Internet increases the range, authorship, and reach of the paratextual portals and that they constitute a key element of the creative process of Latino literary production in 21st century America. This smart and useful book examines how both novelists interact with the interplay of populist and hegemonic multiculturalism and allows new points of entry into these novels.

Sandra Gray is the first zoologist to study the endangered golden monkeys in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, Uganda. This national park is the golden monkey's only home in the entire world. Sandra spends every day hiking through the forest learning about the playful golden monkeys. The family troop that she studies is called Kachima which means monkey in the local language. The Tale of Kachima is a vibrant, educational children's book that teaches children about the golden monkeys and Sandra's impact in the field of conservation. The story is told from the perspective of the golden monkeys as they experience a day in the forest. The book was written by a high school senior, Bella Horton, who met Sandra Gray when traveling in Uganda. Sandra and Bella hope this colorful educational story will inspire future generations to pursue STEM fields and educate more people about the importance of preserving the environment, including all the unique species that live in it. Proceeds from this book are being used to directly fund conservational research in the national park, mainly focused on the golden monkeys.
