BOOK 1 OF THE CONTINUUM (Maiden voyage of the Armageddon) The Armageddon has the huge-ship, sweeping panorama, feeling of Battlestar Galactica, as well as the tense bridge scenes which became the hallmark of Star Trek. However, unlike either of those works. The Armageddon gives us as much a view of the aliens as it does the humans. Indeed, you just might come away from this book liking the Hykonian Admiral, Algol. If so, it's not an accident - there's no rule that only humans can be heroes.
Rewriting the Feeding of Five Thousand reveals the connection between John and the Synoptics with a focus on John 6.1-15. Statistical analyses establish the percentages of verbal and word order agreement between John 6.1-15 and the Synoptic parallels. An analysis of contextual agreements between the narratives in John and the Synoptics facilitates observing the percentage of agreement between them on a verse-by-verse basis, the average percentage of agreement between them, and the average percentage of agreement between them when Johannine material without parallel in the Synoptics is excluded from the data. Furthermore, this book analyzes the Matthean and Lukan redaction of Mark in their versions of the feeding of the five thousand and their influence on the Johannine narrative, as well as how John’s narrative can be understood as a thorough rewriting of the Synoptic accounts.
Kids always provoke parents by doing the very thing that irritates them. Sometimes, when things get bad, you start to think your kids are out to get you while your kids may come to believe you hate them because they are fundamentally bad. Breaking the Spell presents a radical new view of children, not as profit seeking, power hungry opportunists, but as poor scientists who actively poke and prod you to find out how responsible they are for what's making you miserable. Using scores of clinical examples, Dr. Steve Foreman helps parents step out of the cycle of misery and discipline more positively, effectively, and comfortably.
Bone health is one of the most widely discussed topics in pediatric nutrition. Ensuring adequate calcium and vitamin D intake is essential, and other factors also play a significant role. Bone Health in Children explores the recent decades of research and public commentary on the subject, debunks popular myths, and clarifies the often confusing and contradictory scientific literature. Presenting practical and theoretical education and advice, the book provides rational and accessible information geared to a wide audience of individuals interested in this critical element of pediatric health.Highlights include: The Institute of Medicine process by which Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) are developedIron, calcium, and vitamin D requirements for infants, children, and pregnant and lactating womenControversy over high-dose vitamin D supplementation and pregnancyDetailed explanation of the scientific research process related to human nutritionThe nonbone health aspects of vitamin D and why literature claims about this topic can be misleadingFrequently Asked Questions regarding nutrition with answers in short format Providing a solid understanding as to how dietary guidelines are developed and evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of their underlying data, this volume answers practical questions crucial for choosing diets for children while also delving into the more theoretical aspects of conducting and interpreting medical research.
This addition to the ISOR series introduces complementarity models in a straightforward and approachable manner and uses them to carry out an in-depth analysis of energy markets, including formulation issues and solution techniques. In a nutshell, complementarity models generalize: a. optimization problems via their Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions b. on-cooperative games in which each player may be solving a separate but related optimization problem with potentially overall system constraints (e.g., market-clearing conditions) c. conomic and engineering problems that aren’t specifically derived from optimization problems (e.g., spatial price equilibria) d. roblems in which both primal and dual variables (prices) appear in the original formulation (e.g., The National Energy Modeling System (NEMS) or its precursor, PIES). As such, complementarity models are a very general and flexible modeling format. A natural question is why concentrate on energy markets for this complementarity approach? s it turns out, energy or other markets that have game theoretic aspects are best modeled by complementarity problems. The reason is that the traditional perfect competition approach no longer applies due to deregulation and restructuring of these markets and thus the corresponding optimization problems may no longer hold. Also, in some instances it is important in the original model formulation to involve both primal variables (e.g., production) as well as dual variables (e.g., market prices) for public and private sector energy planning. Traditional optimization problems can not directly handle this mixing of primal and dual variables but complementarity models can and this makes them all that more effective for decision-makers.

Today a number of gastrointestinal disorders that once required open surgical or percutaneous management are being managed with endolumenal therapies. This has led to an evolution of minimally invasive endolumenal approaches to many disorders. This issue reviews the progress made in the application of endolumenal therapies and not only discuss current applications but future efforts and directions for clinical investigation. Articles will focus on the scope of the problem, past management options, new endolumenal options, investigations with endolumenal therapy, current status (clinical trial results if available), and future directions.

Whether you are shopping for a gift for a child or a book to bring comfort to someone who is hurting, "Beyond" can bring a word of peace and joy to readers and listeners.Sometimes we need to hear a calm voice. Nighttime noises and daytime surprises can cause anytime tears and fears. We need a word of comfort. This book is ideal in those moments.Perfect for bedtime reading, gifting to a hurting friend, helping with counselling or just reading for pleasure, "Beyond Yet Still With You" brings the reader words and pictures of joy, peace and comfort.Handling difficult concepts (like figuring out where God is, or wondering if God cares when I am hurt) is challenging. "Beyond" breaks it down into simple terms: God is Beyond, but He is still with us. He is beneath, over, through, in, and above us. We are under His care. Because He is everywhere, He is here and we can have peace."Beyond Yet Still With You" teaches us that God does sometimes seem distant from us. He is so far from us, so "beyond", as to seem inaccessible. God transcends creation. He is Lord of Heaven. But He is also Lord of the earth. Though He is distant, at the same time He is close at hand. He is a nearby powerful friend, an ever-present help in times of trouble. He is immanent. This book by father/daughter team Steve Jameson, the author, and Erin Brown, the artist, combines peaceful poetry, original Scripture translations and vibrant illustrations into a single work that explores this "near but far paradox" of God's character. Readers and listeners old and young will be reminded that God delights in His people. He protects us with His power. He comforts us with His presence. He watches out for us when we are out on a limb, walking through puddles and going to bed.We can be encouraged by the teachings of this book to understand we are safe because God is transcendent yet involved, distant yet immanent. He is over all, yet He is personally involved. He is "Beyond, Yet Still With You".The book is available in several languages (English, Haitian Creole and Japanese, with versions in French, Spanish, and other languages in the works) and multiple formats (illustrated poem book, coloring book, 13-lesson extended version "Teacher's Kit", and student handouts). The project also includes audio CD and a video DVD as well as a "coloring book" app for your mobile device. It is perfect for counseling settings, VBS, Home School and Sunday School.Gift yourself, your child or a friend with this gift bringing personal peace.
Whether in Japan, the United States, Europe or places beyond, reading this book will help bring peace to the lives of hurting people. Reading this book and enjoying the colorful illustrations will help disarm worry and fear. A gift of this book is a gift of peace. "Beyond" is a book well worth having. The artwork gives reinforcement to the powerful words about God and His desire to work comfort in our lives, and is a wonderful resource for bringing comfort to hurting people. Sometimes we need to hear a calm voice. Nighttime noises and daytime surprises can cause anytime tears and fears. Then we need a word of comfort. Sometimes, though, God seems far away, even inaccessible, because He is "transcendent". (That means God is beyond all that exists.) Yet the Bible tells us He is always close at hand, a powerful friend. He is IMMANENT. (That means He is an ever-present help in times of trouble.) He is far away, but He is near at the same time. "Beyond, Yet Still With You" combines gentle poetry and colorful illustrations to bring a word of comfort. The poem helps us explore this near/far aspect of God. The reader and the listener are reminded that God delights in His people. He protects us with His power. He comforts us with His presence. He watches out for us when we are out on a limb, walking through puddles and going to bed. He is an ever-present help in times of trouble. Reading this book brings the comfort of those concepts to adults and children. The poetry of Steve Jameson and the artwork of Erin Jameson Brown, a father/daughter team, and the lyrical translation work of Machiko Kamiya Whittaker, work together to teach us that we are safe because God is transcendent yet involved, distant yet immanent. God is, therefore, "Beyond, Yet Still With You". To find more peace in your life, or to help another find that peace, bring this book into your life today.
