John Tyler (1790 - 1862) was the first person to succeed to the Presidency after the death of the incumbent when William Henry Harrison died in office after serving for only one month. Prior to becoming President, Tyler served as a United States Senator, a Member of the U. S. House of Representatives, and as the Governor of Virginia. This work brings together President Tyler's four State of the Union Addresses delivered between 1841 and 1844.
This book describes the life of the tenth president, John Tyler, who evoked mixed feelings amongst the public as to his competency and administrative judgements. He was believed by some to be of talents not above 'mediocrity' and rooted in passions and vices of slavery while others believed him to be unaffected and dedicated to the needs of the country. When President Harrison died suddenly of pneumonia Tyler became the first president ever to come to office by constitutional succession without exhibiting any deep allegiance to the principles of the Whigs' 1840 campaign. Tyler was no 'party animal' and believed in making decisions based on a idea's merit and impact on what he perceived to be the nation's best interests, without regard to politics. The Whigs had no control over the man they had put in the White House, and it came as no surprise when they failed to re-nominate him 1844. President Tyler decided to withdraw from the race before election and left office a President without a party -- the only president every to have had that dubious distinction. This book is an interesting portrait of a somewhat orthodox man who to some seemed too 'ordinary' and his popularity was a divided one.

Kill the president of the United States? How could a rational and law-abiding citizen ever conclude that assassination is an option? What if one death could stop the growth of slavery?1844. President John Tyler is weeks away from submitting to the Senate a treaty for the annexation of the Republic of Texas into the Union. Slaveholding Texas. A doubling of the amount of enslaved territory in the country. Giving the southern states a majority in the Senate. Monty Tolliver, a former top aide to an influential senator, is as sane and dutiful as they come. Along with his best friend, Ben Geddis, a naval officer and an abolitionist, they determine to stop Tyler, an unelected president who, in their view, has already committed multiple transgressions. Filled with the political intrigue of the 1840s and interaction with historical figures, along with a national tragedy and a mysterious death, And Tyler No More explores the battle between morality and legality, between loyalty and betrayal, and confirms that dysfunction in Washington is not a modern American phenomenon.

Three women, forty years, one ever-evolving bond. Fake sick days, Stonehenge, roller skates, champagne and glow-in-the-dark stars. The Tyler Sisters is a funny, heartening exploration of time, and the unassuming moments that make up our lives. Alexandra Wood's innovative play explores the deep and unruly waters of sisterhood. It premiered at Hampstead Theatre Downstairs, London, in December 2019.
The biography of Margaret Tyler remains speculative. It is known that she served the Howard family (Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk) in some capacity. Her level of education has been described as ’amazing’ for a woman who was outside of the aristocracy and possibly a middle-class servant. Her translation (published 1579 or 1580) of Diego Ortún]ez de Calahorra’s romance, Espejo de principes y cavalleros, Part I, from the original Spanish, marks not only a notable moment in book history but also the beginning of the popularity and availability of continental romance in England. Tyler was the first woman to publish a romance in England and the first English translator to work from the original Spanish. Because of the negative association of women with romance (considered a masculine domain) and the general cultural restrictions on female authorship, Tyler’s bold defence of her translation in the dedication and preface is remarkable, and as it is the earliest Englishwoman’s defence of women’s literary work, it has sometimes earned her the title of the first English feminist.

When is a game not a game? Tyler MacCandless can't focus, even when he takes his medication. He can't focus on school, on his future, on a book, on much of anything other than taking care of his older brother, Brandon, who's in rehab for heroin abuse... again. Tyler's dad is dead and his mom has mentally checked out. The only person he can really count on is his Civilian Air Patrol Mentor, Rick. The one thing in life it seems he doesn't suck at is playing video games and, well, thats probably not going to get him into college. Just when it seems like his future is on a collision course with a life sentence at McDonald's, Rick asks him to test a video game. If his score's high enough, it could earn him a place in flight school and win him the future he was certain that he could never have. And when he falls in love with the game's designer, the legendary gamer Ani, Tyler thinks his life might finally be turning around. That is, until Brandon goes MIA from rehab and Tyler and Ani discover that the game is more than it seems. Now Tyler will have to figure out what's really going on in time to save his brother... and prevent his own future from going down in flames.
This story of Royall Tyler is in many ways unique: an American who was almost European, a self-taught art historian who became a name to reckon with in the field of Byzantine art history, an amateur historian with a superb organizing faculty of mind, a League of Nations officer who became intimately involved with Central Europe but mainly with Hungary, an OSS officer and right-hand man of Allen Dulles during World War II, a Cold Warrior until his premature death in 1953. All this provides the basis of a good story that needs to be told, and through Tyler's career, the European story between World War I and the early Cold War can be revisited.

Toby Tyler; Or, Ten Weeks with a Circus by James Otis By James Otis
"Wouldn't you give more 'n six peanuts for a cent?" was a question asked by a very small boy, with big, staring eyes, of a candy vender at a circus booth. And as he spoke he looked wistfully at the quantity of nuts piled high up on the basket, and then at the six, each of which now looked so small as he held them in his hand. "Couldn't do it," was the reply of the proprietor of the booth, as he put the boy's penny carefully away in the drawer. The little fellow looked for another moment at his purchase, and then carefully cracked the largest one. A shade-and a very deep shade it was-of disappointment passed over his face, and then, looking up anxiously, he asked, "Don't you swap 'em when they're bad?" The man's face looked as if a smile had been a stranger to it for a long time; but one did pay it a visit just then, and he tossed the boy two nuts, and asked him a question at the same time. "What is your name?"
