How can love grow and turn our marriageinto a lasting picture of that love? There is no better way to begin than to get a solid grasp of what our commitment means. In this book, Cindy David offers us a roadmap with 35 daily promises for marriage to help us navigate the true meaning of our commitment and guide us into strengthening it.Presented with clear, practical steps, these promises help us see that commitment is not just mustering the courage to say "I do" on our wedding day but also faithfully carrying out the things we need to do for our marriage every day. These promises show us how we can become proactive instead of reactive to the circumstances and emotions that affect our marriage. Beautifully written and effectively brought into perspective as if they're our own personal guidelines, each of these promises teaches us how we can align our actions with our beliefs and centre our motivation around the desire to please and honour God in our marriage.Do you want to make a strong and lasting commitment? What It Means When I Say 'I Do' is the book to show you how.
Oskar Fischinger 1900-1967: Experiments in Cinematic Abstraction
The German-American filmmaker Oskar Fischinger is one of the main protagonists in the history of animation and abstract cinema. From the 1920s onward, this pioneer of visual music coupled abstract images with music and rhythms, long before the arrival of the music video. Fischinger was a true virtuoso who created complex animated patterns that develop dynamic rhythms, harmonies, and counterpoints. He played an important and influential role in the development of early abstraction in film during the interwar period, amid artistic movements such as Orphism (Kupka, Delaunay), Neo-Plasticism (Mondrian, Van Doesburg), Suprematism (Melevich), and Futurism (Marinetti, Boccioni). In 1926 he began working with multiple-projector performances, creating some of the earliest cinematic immersive environments. The book examines his animation and painting, his use of music, his experiences in Hollywood, and his influence on today's filmmakers, artists, and animators, and features previously unpublished documents including essays by Fischinger himself.

Beyond Gender Binaries uses a feminist, intersectional, and invitational approach to understanding identities and how they relate to communication. Taking readers outside the familiar binary constructions of gender and identity, Cindy L. Griffin addresses—through a feminist intersectional lens—communication, identity, power and privilege, personhood and citizenship, safety in public and private spaces, and hegemony and colonialism. Twelve chapters focus on critical learning through careful exploration of key terms and concepts. Griffin illustrates these with historical and contemporary examples and provides concrete guides to intersectional approaches to communication. This textbook highlights not just the ways individuals, systems, structures, and institutions use communication to privilege particular identities discursively and materially, but also the myriad ways that communication can be used to disrupt privilege and respectfully acknowledge the nonbinary and intersectional nature of every person’s identity. Key features include: Intersectional approaches to explaining and understanding identities and communication are the foundation of each chapter and inform the presentation of information throughout the book.Contemporary and historical examples are included in every chapter, highlighting the intersectional nature of identity and the role of communication in our interactions with other people.Complex and challenging ideas are presented in clear, respectful, and accessible ways throughout the book.

Libraries in French colonial Vietnam functioned as symbols of Western modernity and infrastructures of colonial knowledge. Yet Vietnamese readers pursued alternative uses of the library that exceeded imperial intentions. Bibliotactics examines the Hanoi and Saigon state libraries from colonial to postcolonial Vietnam, uncovering the emergence of a colonial public who reimagined the political meaning and social space of the library through public critique and day-to-day practice. Comprising government bureaucrats, library personnel, journalists, and everyday library readers, this colonial public debated the role of libraries as educational resource, civilizing instrument, and literary heritage. Moving beyond procolonial or anticolonial nationalism framings, Bibliotactics advances a relational theory of power that centers public reading culture contextualized within the library infrastructure of the colonial information order. As the first comprehensive history of the colonial and national library in Asia, this book contributes new insights into publicity, colonial and postcolonial studies, and the histories of Vietnam, libraries, and information.

Family, Kinship, and Sympathy in Nineteenth-Century American Literature
In Family, Kinship, and Sympathy in Nineteenth-Century American Literature Cindy Weinstein radically revises our understanding of nineteenth-century sentimental literature in the United States. She argues that these novels are far more complex than critics have suggested. Rather than confirming the power of the bourgeois family, Weinstein argues, sentimental fiction used the destruction of the biological family as an opportunity to reconfigure the family in terms of love rather than consanguinity. Their texts intervened in debates about slavery, domestic reform and other social issues of the time. Weinstein shows how canonical texts, such as Melville's Pierre and works by Stowe and Twain, can take on new meaning when read in the context of nineteenth-century sentimental fiction. Through intensive close readings of a wide range of novels, this groundbreaking study demonstrates the aesthetic and political complexities in this important and influential genre.
The Literature of Labor and the Labors of Literature

The Literature of Labor and the Labors of Literature

The Literature of Labor and the Labors of Literature juxtaposes representations of labour in fictional texts and non-fictional texts in order to trace the intersections between aesthetic and economic discourse in nineteenth-century America. Both allegory and the new forms of labour produced a version of personhood that seemed frighteningly flat, a flatness that attacked the substance of the work ethic and, indeed, the very foundations of American individualism. Using this contextualized model of allegory, Weinstein argues that texts by Hawthorne, Melville, Twain and Adams are best understood both as allegories of labour (that is, the allegorical representations of the nature and cost of being a labouring being) and labours of allegory (that is, the visibility of the author's work of representation). Weinstein revolutionizes the notion of allegorical narrative, which is exposed as a literary medium of greater depth and consequence than has previously been implied - a working authorial vehicle for engaged and at times socially turbulent thought.

Dictionary Activities is a fantastic teaching resource which helps students get to know their dictionaries by explaining dictionary features and how to navigate them. The book also covers more complex topics such as collocations, idioms and word building. Dictionary Activities also looks at the use of electronic dictionaries and other non-standard specialized dictionaries such as picture dictionaries. In addition to providing over 90 dictionary activities to use in the language classroom, this book is also invaluable to any teacher who wants to improve their own knowledge of how dictionaries work. Dictionary Activities contains eight chapters which deal with: Confidence and dictionary skills-building activities, vocabulary-building activities, grammar activities, pronunciation activities, reading and writing activities, quick activities, CD-ROM and electronic dictionary activities and specialized dictionaries. A wealth of ideas for building dictionary skills in class and making the most of dictionaries as a teaching resource.

The Preparation, Characterization and Catalytic Activity of a New Sold Acid Catalyst System
Abstract: The preparation and use of solid strong acid catalysts and superacids are active areas of research. Solid acids and superacids are reported to exhibit extremely high catalytic activities for reactions such as isomerization, cracking, hydrocracking, dehydration, alkylation, acylation, conversion of methanol to gasoline, and so forth. Recent research in this area has focused on the preparation of stronger solid acids and their characterization. Advantages of solid acid catalysts over liquid acid catalysts include ease of separation from reaction mixture and high selectivity or specific activity. A series of novel solid strong acids has been prepared by treatment of inorganic oxides by Lewis acids. The method of creating or enhancing the number of tetrahedral aluminum centers on inorganic oxides has led to a series of novel solid acid catalysts which displays an increased acidity over the supports alone. Investigations of acid sites by the infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine, calorimetric titrations and solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance on a series of new solid acid catalysts will be discussed. This new solid acid catalyst system exhibits high catalytic activity and selectivity for cracking reactions under relatively mild conditions. In addition to the reactions of hydrocarbons, the reactions of various polychlorinated molecules have been studied. The Bible has much to say about the ministry of angels. It tells us that there are angels assigned to us. In Psalm 91:11, the Bible says, 'For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.' The Word also states in Psalm 103:20, that these angels heed the voice of God's Word. There is also a demonic realm where Satan and his host of demons plot and plan to trap and take captive the body of Christ through strategically designed deceptions and temptations. God warns us in 1 Peter 5:8, 'Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.' Skandalon is a modern-day fictional story divinely inspired by God to expose the works of the enemy in the daily lives of believers. Follow a young couple, Zoe and Michael, as they walk through devastating circumstances in their lives, each handling tragedy differently. You'll discover how the angelic beings assigned to guard them are affected by their actions as well as the words they speak or, in some instances, don't speak. The traps and snares of the enemy are brought to light as the character's battle through adversity.
