An invaluable student-tested study aid, this primer, first published in 2007, provides guided instruction for the analysis and interpretation of genetic principles and practice in problem solving. Each section is introduced with a summary of useful hints for problem solving and an overview of the topic with key terms. A series of problems, generally progressing from simple to more complex, then allows students to test their understanding of the material. Each question and answer is accompanied by detailed explanation. This third edition includes additional problems in basic areas that often challenge students, extended coverage in molecular biology and development, an expanded glossary of terms, and updated historical landmarks. Students at all levels, from beginning biologists and premedical students to graduates seeking a review of basic genetics, will find this book a valuable aid. It will complement the formal presentation in any genetics textbook or stand alone as a self-paced review manual.

The first comprehensive treatment of the state's fascinating geological history. The Geology of Mississippi is an encyclopedic work by authors with extensive experience in Mississippi's surface geology mapping program. It brings together published work, unpublished work from agency files, and the authors' experience, both in personal field work and in collaboration with experts from around the word. With over a thousand images, the voluminous text relates ways in which Mississippi's geology has contributed to the understanding of global events, such as the extinction of the dinosaurs and the first occurrence of tiny primates. Fossil illustrations include Devonian trilobites, Mississippian scale trees, Pennsylvanian brachiopods, Cretaceous dinosaur bones, Paleocene lignite and petrified wood, Eocene seashells and the excavation of fossil whales, Oligocene marine fossils and rare land mammal finds, Miocene plants and animals, Paleozoic marine fossils, and the bones of giant ice-age mammals. The text is arranged by geologic age.Economic minerals cited in the book include oil and gas (both methane and carbon dioxide), lignite, dimension stone, crushed stone, sand and gravel, various clay deposits, limestone, and potential economic deposits of bauxite, heavy minerals, and iron ore. Groundwater is Mississippi's most valuable natural resource and supplies over 90 percent of the state's public and industrial water supply and most of the state's irrigation supply for agriculture and catfish ponds. Mississippi's surface geology causes the state's fertile and not-so-fertile soil types responsible for foundation and infrastructure substrates that range from stable to failure-prone due to expansive clays. Finally, The Geology of Mississippi, coupled with site-specific surface geologic maps, provides information for the wise use of land and the environmental protection of the state's resources.

"That was the Time" is a 2019 re-release from Scars Publications of the May 2008 v184 issue of cc&d magazine, which contains poetry and short stories as well artwork, the boss lady's editorial, and a News You Can Use section, now placed into a perfect-bound book by assorted writers and artists. "Children, Churches and Daddies" (AKA cc&d, subtitle "the UN-religious, NON-family oriented literary and art magazine) has been printed in many forms since it's inception in 1993, but since 2014 cc&d has been released every other month (with bonus issues) as a 6"x9" perfect-bound paperback book, with not only it's usual ISSN# (print ISSN# 1068-5154, Internet ISSN# 1555-1555), but also an ISBN#. With ISBN#s for issue/book releases, all issues now carry a title to accompany the new format, reflecting the writing inside the book and the cover design, so, since this original issue did not have a title, one of the accepted writing included in this volume was used for the title on the cover, "That was the Time". As an added bonus to this 2019 re-release of this issue, that paper-back book also contains chapbooks that were released at around the same time as this issue was released, including the Poetry Wheel (supplement #1, 2/26/08), Slinging the Word (supplement #2 3/18/08 that was a reflection of poetry performed on WLUW Chicago radio), and Poems on the Beach (supplement #3 7/13/08 of a poetry feature at Beach Poets, at Loyola Beach in Chicago). Writers and artist with material appearing in this book include Adam Joseph Ortiz, David J. Thompson, G. A. Scheinoha, Holly Cross, Janet Kuypers, Jim Meirose, Joe Frey, Joseph D. Begun in 1966, The World Today Series® offers a penetrating look into every nation—its geographical setting, history, current government, politics, cultures, economy, as well as its problems and prospects. The up-to-date content is effectively supplemented with maps, photographs, original art, and comprehensive bibliographies. The result is a series of well-proportioned, complete, and very up-to-date texts that focus on current events—uncluttered with unnecessary and repetitive background detail. Each new edition brings the world into today’s perspective for the reader. Revised and published each August, the books in the series provide important details and analysis for each country, with sharp focus on the realities of today’s events. Year after year, the combination of factual accuracy and up-to-date detail along with the informed projections make The World Today books are outstanding resources for researchers, practitioners in international development, media professionals, government officials, potential investors, students, and high-school, college & public libraries. Sustainable Healthcare sets out a vision for medical care of high quality, manageable cost and low impact on the planetary systems which sustain us. In tackling the major challenges of our age, such as resource depletion, loss of biodiversity and climate change, health services can play a central role, moving from being part of the problem to becoming part of the solution. Sustainable Healthcare explores questions such as: What is the relevance of sustainability in healthcare? How does climate change threaten human health? How can we create low carbon care pathways? How can healthcare organizations deal better with their waste? How can death and dying become more sustainable? How can we engage ourselves and others with this agenda? Written by an international team combining clinical, educational, practical and policy expertise in sustainability and health, this book provides a synopsis of our current predicaments, and explores some of the emerging solutions. Containing case studies and resources for further information and action, Sustainable Healthcare is a practical guide to making healthcare more sustainable for all healthcare professionals, managers and students. "Once in a while one comes across a book that makes a deep impact. Sustainable Healthcare is such a book and very timely in the context of modern healthcare and developing green policies.... The book is clear in ideas of critical thinking, scientific evidence and practical suggestions for transformative action.... An additional strength in this book are the summary key papers and reports including key points from the chapters. In addition, there is a comprehensive list of references in each chapter.... The authors cut through the jargon and challenge the rhetoric of both fear and denial.... The authors give examples of how we can engage with sustainability such as, diet and exercise, prescription management, contraception management and family planning and end of life care.... The book provides useful sources, references and key actions for individuals, healthcare organisations and policy making departments."—A review by Prof Davinder Sandhu, Postgraduate Dean, Health Education South West, Severn Deanery, UK
