Book one in The Dreaming Series One cop. One killer. Both dreamwalkers. Not every dream should see the light of day...Three very different people have one thing in common-a dreamscape steeped in horror. Barry has had dreams of violent death all his life, and as a cop, he now works to solve the crimes his dreams tell him about in hopes he can save at least one victim from suffering the fate he faces every time he lays his head on his pillow. His ex-lover, Tag-now his boss-has no idea how to help him cope other than to protect his job...and try to protect their hearts from the dreams that could end up killing them both. Layton welcomes the dream state that shows him his next victim. He's been a killer for as long as he can remember, and the land where he walks in shadow beside the horn-headed man who guides him feels more like home than the waking world. Now, in addition to seeking out those who would kill the innocent and ending their lives in his own special reign of terror, Layton is promised a bride-someone to love him forever. It seems everything he's ever dreamed is about to come true. Jessica just wants to get her life back after her boyfriend is murdered and she is abducted.Twice. Finding herself at Leyton's mercy is a nightmare she soon finds is only the very beginning. When the horn-headed man visits her, she knows nothing will ever be the same again. The four of them now have to find a way to navigate the real world while the dream state dictates their very lives and threatens everything they hold dear. If they manage catch a few killers and save a few innocent lives along the way, that will have to be their compensation for the "gifts" given by The Dreaming. Reader Advisory: This book contains several graphic and detailed scenes of torture, dismemberment and murder.

The best-known work by the eccentric anthropologist Jaime de Angulo, Indians in Overalls is a fascinating account of his first linguistic field trip--in 1921--to the Achumawi tribe of northeastern California. The Pit River tribe had lived in the barren high country for thousands of years and, despite the harsh climate and difficult living conditions, they had developed an extraordinary complex language and a rich mythology. As he traveled with the tribe and learned the spoken language, he observed gambling games and shamanistic practices, and he collected some of the marvelous stories told around the fire in the winter lodges. Of all the people he worked with, he felt closest to the Achumawi, among whom he discovered "the spirit of wonder, the recognition of life as power..." "One of the most outstanding writers I have ever encountered." -- William Carlos Williams Jaime de Angulo (1887-1950) was a Paris-born Spanish novelist and linguist. His other works include Coyote Man and Old Doctor Loon, Coyote's Bones, and The Lariat: and Other Writings.

“All it takes is one column to pull you in. Rich in humour, overflowing in ideas. This is Jaime Watt at his candid best.” The Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, PC, CC, GOQ —18th prime minister of Canada Just as they do on those television cooking contests when the bell rings and the contestants’ hands go up, at four o’clock on Friday afternoon, the column is filed—ready or not—to the columnist’s horror, discomfort, or self-satisfaction. Regardless, one exigent and unrelenting thought remains: what you wish you’d said. Such is the life of a weekly newspaper columnist. Unable to ignore the urge any longer, in What I Wish I Said: Confessions of a Columnist, author Jaime Watt has collected forty-eight of his most eye-opening, illuminating, and provocative Toronto Star columns and with humour, candour, and wit, he’s responded to each with what he wishes he’d said. The collection also features contributions from former senator and columnist André Pratte and from journalist and former editor-in-chief of the Toronto Star Michael Cooke. Widely regarded as Canada’s leading high-stakes communications strategist and the architect of groundbreaking campaigns that transformed politics with their boldness and creativity, Watt brings his insight to bear on some of the most vexing and consequential issues in Canadian life by reappraising his past work. Across six topical subject areas—civil liberties and human rights, portraits of leaders, the Liberal Party in power, the Conservative Party in opposition, the Donald Trump presidency, and the COVID-19 crisis—this subtle yet accessible collection offers a distinctive look at recent times. Whether he got it right or wrong, Watt pulls no punches when it comes to critiquing—and at times lambasting—his past columns. Revisiting his best and worst takes, Watt and his co-author Breen Wilkinson look at what might have been said in the columns he has been writing for more than seven years. And as he does, Watt challenges with new perspectives and ideas, inviting readers to consider what they wish they might have said, to consider how their points of views, and even their values, may have changed with time.

This is the story of that newspaper's struggle to maintain an honest and critical relationship with its readers while at the same time maintaining its foothold on a rocky and ever-changing political terrain. This book details past and present governmental abuse of Nicaraguan civil liberties, human rights, and press censorship. In doing so, it gives a compelling account of Nicaragua's two twentieth-century dictatorships and how one newspaper managed to challenge and frighten both.

Paddock Paradise (PP) is both a book title and a concept of a more naturalized way of horse keeping based upon the research done on the Great Basin wild horses by natural horse care expert and author, Jaime Jackson. PP is a must-read for any horse-owner or professional who wants to create an environment of more optimal mental and physical health for their horses while drastically reducing the number of hours spent on 'barn' chores. Jackson explains to readers why the concept works and how to create one in a simple and inexpensive manner. Not only do horses exercise more but also eat in the manner that nature intended . Research has shown that free-roaming horses are healthier than stabled ones but many kinds of pasture grasses can cause laminitis. PP is the solution for these issues and others that plauge horse owners around the world. "PP is an emerging trend," according to a summer 2011 issue of "The Horse" magazine.

Introduction: One morning, driving out towards the main road of our suburban community, I glanced at the other people in their cars coming out of the neighborhood. I didn't just see regular commuters as I would have many years ago. Instead, I saw a class of people-working middle-class-not just on their way to work but on their way to make a living, engage in their daily struggles to pay the bills: the credit card, the car, the mortgage loan, what have you, day after day, for years ahead of them. Like I did for decades. Lately, I've had many such 'insights' of people, places and events. I see things now as if through the lens of a mobile camera. I could zoom in and out on one of those commuters and see the whole life story of the fellow from beginning to end: childhood, high-school and college, entry-level job, career job, marriage, family, divorce, marriage, so on and so forth. Amazing how I could now see through the whole life cycle of these people. Now that I'm free of all the cares they're trying to cope with like I did. All the worries about becoming jobless, running out of money, getting seriously ill and having no health insurance; all the politics, the sniping, the cliques, the assholes, the back-stabbing, deadline and pressure in the office. I don't have to put up with any of that anymore. I've had my share. I did my time. I'm free How I wish now, while I was out there years ago in that working-class commuter traffic, that I had the ability to see life as a whole the way I could now; to focus and zoom in and out; to see the forest beyond the tree. Well, I'm out of the forest now. I'm looking down at it, over it. It's a jungle down there alright, as some had said before. I have a few things to say about it myself, things that would give me a great satisfaction to share with you here, if I did nothing else before the whole scenery goes out of focus. Most of them involve me not always as a central character but one among the essential players. There are others where I am merely an observer, taking them in for their re-telling later on, as I am doing now. And, like a blossom falling in late spring, a haze in a midsummer evening, the yellow leaves of fall or the little feathers of snow adrift on a quiet winter day, each one comes back unheralded, back from a time in my past, in random, in no particular order but clear as the day I lived through it.

The Natural Trim: Principles & Practice is the first release by the world renowned wild horse and hoof care expert, Jaime Jackson, since the 2007 publication of his revolutionary book, "Paddock Paradise: A Guide to Natural Horse Boarding" and 20 years since his first book was published, The Natural Horse: Lessons from the Wild (1992/Northland Publishing/Star Ridge). The Natural Trim is for any interested in horses - as an owner or as a professional. Because the health of the horse shows up in its hooves, the condition of the hoof is to the horse what the canary is to the coalminer. The book looks at the species, equus ferus caballus, and shows the reader why the sound, healthy and fit, wild & free-roaming Great Basin Mustang should serve as the universal model of health for all domestic horses. Part I focuses on all aspects of healthy horsekeeping and Part II provides step by step guidelines to conducting this humane, barefoot trim method based on the U.S. Great Basin Mustangs.
