This is the first collection of critical essays on the writing of Kathleen Jamie. Kathleen Jamie's works are classics. No one can read Kathleen Jamie and remain indifferent or unchanged. Nationally acclaimed since her first major publications in the 1980s, Jamie stands out from other contemporary poets in her exceptional musicality, her strikingly unusual perspectives, her wry humour, translucent imagery, and hard-edged economy of expression. These 16 newly commissioned critical essays and 7 previously unpublished poems by leading poets make up the first full-length study of Kathleen Jamie's writing. The essays discuss all of her poetry collections, including The Queen of Sheba (1994), Jizzen (1999), Mr and Mrs Scotland Are Dead: Poems 1980-94 (2002), The Tree House (2004) and The Overhaul (2012), as well as her travel writing, including Among Muslims (2002), her nature writing, Findings (2005) and Sightlines (2012) and her collaborative work, including Frissure (2013). Whether engaging with national politics, with gender, with landscape and place, or with humanity's relation to the natural environment, this volume demonstrates that Kathleen Jamie's verse teaches us new ways of listening, of seeing and of being in the contemporary world. It presents the first collection of scholarly essays on Kathleen Jamie, one of the UK's foremost living poets. It contains creative responses to Jamie's work by leading Scottish, Irish and English poets, including Michael Longley, Andrew Greig, Leontia Flynn and Fiona Sampson. It provides a full bibliography of works by and about Kathleen Jamie. It includes an audio recording of Kathleen Jamie, reading from works discussed in the volume.

A free spirited book meant to be loved by all children. Inspired by the author's 2-year-old neice. Review Jamie Graham, author of "Uncle Jamie's Super Helmet Show" has recently enjoyed media attention in his hometown of Kirksville, Missouri. In addition to a book signing with The Vintage Book Shoppe, a local Kirksville book store, both the Kirksville Daily Express and TruLife newspapers wrote stories chronicling Graham's success. Mr. Graham, a hearing impaired children's author overcame a medical misdiagnosis in his Fourties and was encouraged to share his love of pictures and story writing. As a child Mr. Graham used drawing and writing as a medium of communication. He felt it expressed his ideas and feelings more accurately than speech. "Uncle Jamie's Super Helmet Show" was inspired by an encounter with his niece, Lauren Haley Brown. He is thrilled with the success of his book as he "always wanted to give kids] all a present, and now I get to give everyone a present." In addition to being a children's author Graham is a member of the Special Olympics Hall of Fame and a Self-Advocate for the Missouri Planning Council for Developmental Disabilities. Graham is pleased to note that Joe DiMaggio, John Ashcroft and Queen Elizabeth II have admired his artwork. Jamie Graham is currently working on a new book, a compilation of three stories and his new goal is an appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Edinburgh, 1698. Scotland's crops had failed again, and starvation was building in the cities. A plan was hatched to colonize Panama, ship goods overland, and hence shorten the voyage to India. Half the available cash in Scotland was raised to support the project. Five ships and three thousand souls set off on the venture to be the salvation of an ailing nation-a four thousand mile journey into the unknown. Jamie Leith, a young street-wise teenager, inadvertently stows away, and wakes, a prisoner of the venture and manacled to its success or failure. Determined to survive at all costs, Jamie faces enemies, storms, and sickness, with optimism and a 'ne'er say die' attitude. With the courage of youth, and endurance and instincts learned from the streets, he confronts all obstacles to give his all in the success of the venture. 'Opportunities' is the story of the Dari n Venture seen through the eyes of this precocious youngster, and is a roller-coaster adventure set within Scotland's 'last chance' at survival. Jamie Leith embodies the positive spirit that lies in all Scots; the rampant strength of character that sailed the seven seas and drove a population to the four corners of a rapidly growing world. This book is dedicated to the Scottish people and their descendants all over the world; for their unrelenting obstinacy, their engrained character, and their endearing and sometimes prickly nature.
