A new infinity sign to symbolize the birth of the Third Paradise. What is the Third Paradise according to the author's concept? It's the fertile coupling of the first and second paradise. The first was the Earthly Paradise that came before the eating of the apple. It's the natural paradise where everything is regulated by the intelligence of nature. The second is the Artificial Paradise, the one developed by human intelligence, by means of a very slow process that has reached an increasingly vast and exclusive dimension in the last two centuries. This paradise is made up of artificial needs, artificial comforts, artificial pleasures and every other sort of artifice. Confronted by the universal problem of humanity's survival, the artist conceived the global project entitled Third Paradise. The biblical reference does not have any religious purpose, but is used to give force and meaning to the concept of responsible social change and to fuel a high ideal that unites, in a single endeavor, the arts, the sciences, economics, spirituality and politics.

This catalogue offers an exciting journey inside the poetics and the world, the many worlds, of one of the masters of contemporary art: Michelangelo Pistoletto (Biella, 1933). An infinity of ways of making art, an infinity of ways of seeing, of changing perspective, of reading reality. At the centre a single artist but in his many possibilities of being, of transforming, of depicting and representing himself, of telling. The volume covers almost Pistoletto’s entire career, from the 1960s with the mirror paintings, Metrocubo di Infinito, Venere degli Stracci, Orchestra di stracci and Labirinto, the 1970s with L’Etrusco and the series of Porte Segno Arte along with Autoritratto di Stelle to more recent works. For the 550th anniversary of the birth of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475–1564) the Muscarelle Museum (Williamsburg, Virginia) hosted the exhibition Michelangelo: The Genesis of the Sistine, running from March to June, 2025. The exhibition was an extraordinary account of the master’s preparatory drawings for the Sistine Chapel frescoes, never before exhibited in America. Before his death, Michelangelo destroyed many of his sketches, including numerous studies for the Sistine Chapel. Those that have been saved remain significant and iconic, providing a window into his creative process, highlighting his initial plans and his extraordinary vision for the frescoes of the Sistine ceiling. They range from what may be considered the first schematic study for the Sistine ceiling, to the numerous sketches of faces, limbs, and whole figures depicted in various positions, appearing as preparation for the figures later frescoed. Thanks to rigorous scholarly research, this catalogue provides new insights into Michelangelo’s legacy, giving the reader an enriching and compelling experience.
