This monograph consists of five chapters that describe the diagnosis and treatment of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), which is the most common malignant epithelial neoplasm affecting the oral cavity. Chapter One deals with different potentially malignant disorders in the development of OSCC, diagnostic methods of OSCC, the pertinence of biomarkers in OSCC therapy, classification of biomarkers, existing biomarkers in different stages of OSCC and the challenges of developing new biomarkers. Chapter Two is focused on principles, systems, technologies, therapeutic approaches, safety and toxicity and patents comprising drug delivery systems for local oral squamous cell carcinoma treatment. Chapter Three aims to highlight a detailed critical review of previous literature on putative cancer stem cell pathways for oral carcinoma and draw interest in targeting the most common cancer stem cell markers as a therapeutic regimen for oral cancer preneoplastic tumours, metastasis, and treatment progression. Chapter Four aims to cover the recent developments in nanotechnology-based drug delivery systems, advanced nanomedicines and their diagnostics as well as therapeutic applications in OSCC. Finally, Chapter 5 aims to elaborate on the importance of biomarkers as an early diagnostic tool in detecting oral squamous cell carcinoma.

Providing oral health care to individuals with disabilities may require increased awareness, attention and accommodation by the dentist and dental staff, such as; frequent consultation with other health care providers, communicating with patients who have a sensory impairment, transfer of patient from wheelchair to dental chair, behavior management, obtaining appropriate informed consent, proper airway positioning and modifications to routine treatment procedures. The objectives of this book (Oral Health Care for People with Disability) are to provide dental professionals with an understanding of the issues associated with providing oral health care to people who have disabilities. Specifically, we intend to identify barriers to accessing dental care experienced by this segment of the population, oral health considerations associated with major disabling conditions and practical clinical information that will assist general dentists in providing appropriate oral health l care in a safe manner to individuals who have a disability. This book is dedicated to our families, our friends and our lecturers.

Compared to previous generations, today’s older adult is much more likely to have natural teeth. Because aging and systemic diseases can influence oral health and function, it is important for clinicians to be able to recognize, diagnose and treat oral conditions in the elderly population. This monograph, part of the American Academy of Oral Medicine's (AAOM) Clinician's Guide series is intended as a quick reference to the etiologic factors, clinical description, currently accepted therapeutic management, and patient education of the more common oral conditions found in geriatric patients.Since oral disease in the elderly can lead directly or indirectly to malnutrition, altered communication, increased susceptibility to infectious diseases, oral health professionals can play a vital role in helping the elderly to achieve optimum quality of life. The book also offers topical and systemic drug regimens for treatment of common oral disorders with special attention to the fact that the pharmacokinetics of drug absorption, distribution and metabolism are considerably altered in elderly patients.

The field of oral microbiology has seen fundamental conceptual changes in recent years. Microbial communities are now seen as the fundamental etiological agent in oral diseases through their interface with host inflammatory responses. Study of structured microbial communities has increased our understanding of the roles of each member in the pathogenesis of oral diseases, principles that apply to both periodontitis and dental caries. Against this backdrop, the third edition of Oral Microbiology and Immunology has been substantially expanded and rewritten by an international team of authors and editors. Graduate students, researchers, and clinicians as well as students will find this new edition valuable in study and practice.

Oral-based diagnostics have the potential to detect systemic disease and evidence of exposure to various harmful substances, as well as provide biomarkers of health and disease status. Integration of novel approaches to oral-based diagnostics is expanding to include genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and nanotechnology. Improved technologies for diagnostics are resulting in more "user-friendly" methods. Efforts to translate bench assays to commercial products in the area of oral diagnostics have increased recently, as witnessed by the appearance of several new oral-based diagnostic products in the marketplace. Collaborative academic, government, and industry relationships in this arena are also forming, all of which will undoubtedly serve to rapidly advance the field. This volume brings together contributions from leaders in the areas of toxicology, pathology, oral biology, dental research, and clinical medicine. Oral Pharmacotherapy for Male Sexual Dysfunction
For the generation that reached sexual maturity in the 1960s, the “pill” became synonymous with sexual freedom and started a sexual revolution. For women it meant freedom from the fear of pregnancy, and for men enhanced sexual opportunity. The new era of the pill has nothing to do with fertility, but everything to do with sex. The first orally effective prescr- tion drug for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) was marketed in 1998. ® Sildenafil (Viagra ) has rejuvenated the aging male veterans of the sexual revolution, forever changed the science of sexual medicine, and tra- formed society’s perspective on aging and sex. This class of drugs, known as oral phosphodiesterase inhibitors (PDE-type 5), is highly effective in the treatment of ED. Since its introduction there has been a much greater awa- ness of ED, its comorbidities, and its effects on the quality of life. In 1997, while preparing to address the Endocrine Society on the occasion of the 92nd American Urological Association meeting, I first looked at the p- clinical studies of sildenafil. I thought “this will change everything” and it clearly has—changing practice patterns in sexual medicine, and the at- tudes of patients, potential patients, and their partners. Two new PDE-type ® ® 5 inhibitors, tadalafil (Cialis ) and vardenafil (Levitra ), were first approved by the European Committee for Proprietary Medicinal Products and subsequently by the Food and Drug Administration in 2003 and 2004.

Oral history is inherently about memory, and when oral history interviews are used \u0022in public,\u0022 they invariably both reflect and shape public memories of the past. Oral History and Public Memories is the only book that explores this relationship, in fourteen case studies of oral history's use in a variety of venues and media around the world. Readers will learn, for example, of oral history based efforts to reclaim community memory in post-apartheid Cape Town, South Africa; of the role of personal testimony in changing public understanding of Japanese American history in the American West; of oral history's value in mapping heritage sites important to Australia's Aboriginal population; and of the way an oral history project with homeless people in Cleveland, Ohio became a tool for popular education. Taken together, these original essays link the well established practice of oral history to the burgeoning field of memory studies.

These include: children in birth-to-five age groups, individuals with social and cognitive challenges, persons with sensory limitations, and older adults.A stand-alone, comprehensive resource, this manual lends itself to both professional practice and clinical teaching while promoting a rigorous, evidence-based model for oral-facial inspection practices within the profession of speech-language pathology. Oral cancer is any cancerous tissue growth located in the mouth. It may arise as a primary lesion originating in any of the oral tissues, by metastasis from a distant site of origin, or by extension from a neighbouring anatomic structure, such as the nasal cavity or the maxillary sinus. Oral cancers may originate in any of the tissues of the mouth, and may be of varied histologic types: teratoma, adenocarcinoma derived from a major or minor salivary gland, lymphoma from tonsillar or other lymphoid tissue, or melanoma from the pigment producing cells of the oral mucosa. Far and away the most common oral cancer is squamous cell carcinoma, originating in the tissues that line the mouth and lips. Oral or mouth cancer most commonly involves the tissue of the lips or the tongue. It may also occur on the floor of the mouth, cheek lining, gingiva (gums), or palate (roof of the mouth). Most oral cancers look very similar under the microscope and are called squamous cell carcinoma. These are malignant and tend to spread rapidly. This new book presents important research from around the world.
