Australian cases of partners in murder: true cases of pairs of killers who act in concert and commit the most horrifying crimes. One of the most mystifying aspects of contemporary murder is the emergence of pairs of killers who act in concert and commit the most horrifying crimes. Pairs of killers have always operated together in gangland-style killings but what motivates people who, in many cases, are extremely intelligent and apparently socially stable to form a duo to kill for pleasure? In all, 11 cases, diverse in nature but equally chilling, are profiled. Many of these cases have current relevance either because the killers are seeking parole or because of what has happened to the victim's relatives or the murderers themselves.

Examines the literary career of William March (1893-1954), described by Alistair Cooke as ‘the unrecognized genius of our time', and by his biographer as ‘one of the most remarkable, talented, and shamefully neglected writers that America has produced'.

Providing an exhaustive compendium of publications by and citations about Alabama-born writer William March, William March: An Annotated Checklist offers an invaluable resource that traces in meticulous detail the arc of March’s writing, the popular and critical reception of his books and novels, and the abundant scholarship and criticism about March and his oeuvre. This deeply researched reference includes both primary materials, an exhaustive checklist of the forms and editions of each of March’s works, and secondary materials, which include plays and films adapted from March’s writing, biographical and critical articles, doctoral dissertations, and contemporary reviews of March’s work. The reissue in 2015 of the novels in his Pearl County series—Come in at the Door, The Tallons, and The Looking-Glass—is part of a fresh wave of interest in March, one of the most influential American writers from the mid-1930s until his death in 1954.

Books about printing written for printers or would-be printers go back over 300 years. The earliest of them were almost exclusively concerned with books; this century, however, there has been more emphasis on other kinds of documents, and particularly their design. But no shift in document production has been more sudden than the one that has happened most recently. ConSequently, the last five years have witnessed a substantial movement away from books written for professionals to ones whose aim is to help would-be authors produce their own documents. The opportunities for authors to do this have been opened up by the advent of desktop publishing (a term coined as recently as 1984). As most exponents of desktop publishing have come to realise, the term is something of a misnomer because the provision of facilities that allow authors to produce their own material for publishing is not quite the same thing as publish ing. Nevertheless, it has been useful in focussing attention on author-produced documents, and what might be described as the democratisation of document production. This book is different from others in the field. Its target audience is the busy scientist engaged in teaching or research who uses computers in the ordinary course of work. The world of scientific publishing is rapidly moving towards the day when journals will expect contributions from authors on disc, or even by direct transfer of data from the author's computer to the output device of an editor via telephone and satellite.

There are three changes in the second edition. First, with the help of readers and colleagues-thanks to all-I have corrected typographical errors and made minor changes in substance and style. Second, I have added a fewmore Exercises, especially at the end ofChapter4.Third, I have appended a section on Differential Geometry, the essential mathematical tool in the study of two-dimensional structural shells and four-dimensional general relativity. JAMES G. SIMMONDS vii Preface to the First Edition When I was an undergraduate, working as a co-op student at North Ameri can Aviation, I tried to learn something about tensors. In the Aeronautical Engineering Department at MIT, I had just finished an introductory course in classical mechanics that so impressed me that to this day I cannot watch a plane in flight-especially in a turn-without imaging it bristling with vec tors. Near the end of the course the professor showed that, if an airplane is treated as a rigid body, there arises a mysterious collection of rather simple looking integrals called the components of the moment of inertia tensor.

Souls and the City: Poems

Souls and the City: Poems

Rita A. Simmonds' poems offer a soulful account of life in New York, not the mythical, magical destination of tourists, but the grim, gritty city eight million people call home. SOULS IN THE CITY bears witness to the lived experience of real New Yorkers, from the young couple falling in love in Goldberg's Pizzeria to the married couple having their Friday night fight against the backdrop of R&B on their car radio, from Jesus the Beggar sitting on the bare pavement to the Wise Woman searching the snowy streets for the sleeping Christ Child, from the visionary beauty of the Verrazano Bridge by night to the bald Battery bereft of its Twin Towers. Simmonds' city pulsates with pain and with beauty, the two becoming one as the poet weaves from the tiny particulars of city life the universal story of suffering and redemption, consolation and desolation, despair and (always) hope. Simmonds' poems constitute glancings of grace, intimate glimpses of shimmer and shine that redeem the ugliness of urban life. Following in the footsteps of her poetic forbears Walt Whitman, Hart Crane, and Allen Ginsberg, Rita Simmonds has discovered the soul of her city and blesses her readers with her vision. --Angela Alaimo O'Donnell, author of MOVING HOUSE, SAINT SINATRA, and WAKING MY MOTHERWith her utterly authentic imagery - concretely observed and lived and felt through-and-through - Rita Simmonds has rendered a city I was born into and have loved all my life intensely fresh. More, she has re-introduced me to its humanity and in important ways to my very self within it. Her distinctive gift is to show us that, if we will only pay enough attention, we will see St. Augustine's City of God, not there and then but right here, right now. --James Como, Professor Emeritus, York College (CUNY), author, WHY I BELIEVE IN NARNIA
