Write to Be Read, Speak to Be Heard: A Communication Guide to the Five Filters
YOUR LISTENER. YOUR READER. YOUR WORDS. Are these a match? And if not, why not? ARE YOU REACHING your AUDIENCE? There are 5 FILTERS we wear when we seek to communicate, meaningfully, from our core; when our MESSAGE MATTERS, it's important to get this right: to ALIGN our words, tone, and intent with the way our listener hears us. This does not mean that we pander to our reader. Rather, it means that we pause, we step away from the computer long enough to discern; what is the FILTER WE WEAR when we speak, write, or compose a message to be heard? And when we have that straight; we can align the way we write, speak or present with WHO WE ARE; and then we will be in a much better position to reach our reader. Because our reader--our IDEAL READER--has on the same filter we do. They are just waiting to hear what we have to say, with open ears They want to hear it and they might even benefit from hearing it. This is our audience. And we are their writer, speaker or presenter. It's a MATCH These FIVE FILTERS align with our spiritual gift, as found in Ephesians 4:11. They are the gift of the Teacher, who writes and speaks and presents like A SCHOLAR. They and their audience both need to know the sources they use are credible; that they can trust what's on offer. This is very important to THIS TYPE of writer and reader duo. Next, is the gift of the Pastor, which aligns perfectly with the SOCIAL CONNECTOR type of communicator; they are all about reaching the heart through storytelling. And so, the formats that 'work' for them are different than those that work for the Scholar. It's the same with the Evangelist/CHANGE AGENT, and the Apostle/ADVENTURER, and the Prophet/MYSTIC type of writer/reader combo. Each gift informs the WAY WE COMMUNICATE. And the way we communicate informs the filters we have on, when we seek to speak from our core, to reach our audience in a meaningful way. This book is full of descriptions, and check-lists. It's a how-to book that will better equip YOU to reach YOUR IDEAL AUDIENCE. And this is not for the few, it's for the many: we each have a gift. I have another book that focuses on these spiritual gifts alone: it's called "5 Navigators, aligning with your God-given spiritual gift." It is for anyone exploring closer vocational alignment. This book, "Write to be Read, Speak to be Heard" is very much for COMMUNICATORS. It draws on my experience not only with spiritual formation and alignment, but with my days as a community reporter, communications consultant, writing instructor and professional freelancer. So, please if you wish to write to be read or speak to be heard, consider checking out this book. It's part of a series that I have been working on for several years, in an attempt to serve from my core, align with my gift, and reach my audience with a meaningful message. He continued, "A blank page or empty computer screen will go nowhere, you firstly need to fill those spaces and continue to work on them. Remember, you can only edit something that already exists."Graham continued, "I use Microsoft Word for my writing but I have met many writers who use alternative software or hardware such as iPads and tablets. Please bear in mind what you read in this book works for me and has enabled me to write and publish those novels, many in different genres.Lastly, if you are not computer literate, it shouldn't stop you writing your book. Write it longhand and then have someone type it up for you. This book is written just for you and, although you may certainly find alternative ways to write your novel or story, whatever way you decide to do it, I wish you the very best of luck with your writing."Graham Sclater

While it may only take an hour to read this book, I spent four years testing this approach to writing. Now you can also write your first book in just 30 days. You'll get the practical steps to develop your characters and create your plot, and understand how to think about writing before you type the first word. If you can absorb the key concepts, this step-by-step process will even help you enjoy the writing process. At the end of one month, you'll have a terrific working manuscript, and you'll be happy about your work. There are two popular theories about writing; you can outline the whole book ahead of time, or you can just let words fly out and see what happens. If you were heading to the grocery store, would you make a list of ingredients for the next 3 days of cooking, or do you just wander the aisles and see what jumps into your cart?We know from experience that when you plan your purchases, you usually have delicious meals. The hardest part is the preparation time. I wish dinner would magically assemble itself, get cooked, and land in a pile of steamy deliciousness on my plate. This book will help you actually prepare a feast of words, and assemble them into an appealing story While these pages will direct you to the core of your story, it's only the start. The fun part is pulling the individual pieces together to make a book. If you want to have a successful month of writing, you need to prepare yourself. Part of that is the emotional commitment to sit in your chair and write every day. If you want a crappy first draft, then plan on 30 minutes a day. If you want to write something that has potential to be shaped into a published novel, you need to plan on 60 to 90 minutes a day. And that's usually why people don't ever write their books. They simply won't sit down and write. It sounds obvious, I know, but if you want to write a book, you have to spend time writing. There are a few other reasons people never write their book... they think they should spend years writing it they should wait until they retire to write it or, they think they don't have the skill to put a story onto paper. You may worry about spelling, or grammar, or fret about the proper way to assemble a sentence. Maybe you've heard stories from others who are "writing a book", and have been for years. If you think you should wait until you have time to write a book, that means you've got some residual bad programming from your school days. It's no reflection on you. School was partly designed to make us stand in lines and be obedient. Writing a book completely contradicts those lessons. While we can still be proud of our diplomas, we didn't always get the encouragement needed to develop our creativity. School did not applaud our originality, and being unique further separated us from the other kids our age. Even now that you're a grown-up, you may still doubt your skills and talents. We will address mindset in this book, because even the best advice in the world won't help if you don't sit in your chair and write. Following these steps will let you finally share your story. It's okay that you don't know every detail yet. The important thing is your driving need to put your creative self to work, and I am here to support you. Let's get started Part One addressed getting ready to write, Part two is how to create your own 30 day deadline, and part three is specific writing prompts. This third section will help you generate words by using your imagination. This three step process will lead you to a successful working manuscript in 30 days.

Companies and individuals with solutions to important problems are producing volumes of written materials - but their ideas aren't being heard. That's an irony of the modern world: Those with unique ideas often go unheard because they are too focused on their niche, while other people hog the microphone simply because they are good communicators. If you are a subject-matter expert who wants to be recognized for your ideas and have a bigger impact with your work, you are not alone. "Write Like a Thought Leader" empowers experts of all types to make their ideas easily accessible to the global audience already at their fingertips. Gone are the days of stories that are too academic, have an old or uninteresting storyline, or simply present the facts. Experts, including consultants, scientists, lawyers and finance professionals, can now get their good ideas out of their heads and onto paper. This book shows smart people how to write smarter with The Story-Framing System created by Rhea Wessel. It will help you make the leap from subject-matter expert to thought leader by improving an essential skill in business - writing. Instead of finding that your best ideas have gotten lost or buried, you'll be able to move the conversation forward. To write like a thought leader, subject-matter experts must go through a three-step process and be willing to give away your knowledge for free - no strings attached. By following the steps outlined in this book, you'll establish a respected voice, gain trust, command a loyal following, and maximize the impact of your work.

Write Where We Are: Writeon Joliet Inaugural Anthology 2017
Writers just have to write. True enough. So true, in fact, that this thought has become something of a mantra for everyone who feels compelled to get those thoughts, that rhyme, that story onto paper before inspiration flits along. Not as clich , but certainly as important, is that writers also must share their work. Since 2012, WriteOn Joliet has provided a platform for that important process. WriteOn Joliet lets authors read their work, commiserate, laugh, and pick up a pointer or two from others likewise engaged. "Write Where We Are" collects some of the best examples of that community process. This inaugural anthology features a broad selection of writing styles including poetry, essays, short stories, a novella, and an excerpt from a novel. Some WriteOn Joliet members write professionally. For others, writing is a hobby and a creative release. Some have been traditionally published, others have self-published, and some are still working toward publication. Regardless of where they are on their creative path, all of the authors in this anthology share a passion for the (frustrating, joyful, mysterious and magical) art and craft of writing. WriteOn Joliet is excited and proud to share their work.
