World-famous aviatrix Amy Johnson was fun. At school, she danced on a teacher's desk when she was out of the room. She enjoyed boys' games and "became as big a tomboy as any of them" - especially at cricket. Then it all changed: Amy became a hermit and described herself as a "lifelong fertile liar". For historians, Amy's personality raises more questions than answers: Why lie about where she was born and bred - in Hull's Fishing Community? Was she ashamed that her family's wealth came solely from Hull fish docks? Was Amy afraid of being called a Cod Farm Lass - the notorious 'rude, crude and lewd' women employed by her father? Why did she tell people Bridlington was her hometown? When and how did 'Joystick Johnnie' first become a tomboy? Was her aircraft Jason named after a Greek hero or a Hull kipper? Why did Amy not invite her parents to her posh London wedding in Mayfair? But they turned up anyway Did the British shoot Amy down because she was carrying a German spy / lover in 1941 - and so covered up her death? Why did the Johnson Family never donate her memorabilia to her hometown? Although born in Hull's Hessle Road Fishing Community, she was in dread of being associated with the Johnson family's fish dock business and so fled the port. This is the first publication to probe deeper into Amy's fishing roots or how the Johnson family bought Jason for her solo flight to Australia. It is now time to reveal the truth behind a Hessle Road tomboy - and still rejoice in the story of "Amy, Wonderful Amy". This B&W (Black and White) version of my Amy book has also been reproduced in a more expensive Colour version and eBook Kindle version. Which ever you choose, enjoy Amy's adventurous life.

The cat and kitten were both eating supper and Marian was watching them. Her own supper of bread and milk she had finished, and had taken the remains of it to Tippy and Dippy. Marian did not care very much for bread and milk, but the cat and kitten did, as was plainly shown by the way they hunched themselves down in front of the tin pan into which Marian had poured their supper. In the next room Grandpa and Grandma Otway were sitting and little bits of their talk came to Marian's ears once in a while when her thoughts ceased to wander in other directions. "If only one could have faith to believe implicitly," Grandma Otway said.

She came to China with a lesson plan. What she found was a new sense of purpose. Amy Young traveled to China in the mid 1990s to teach English to educators. But she never expected the profound way they would enrich her soul. With the influence of the enchanting country and its extraordinary everyday people, Amy extended a two-year assignment to nearly two decades far away from home. Starting shortly after her arrival, Amy shared her stories and her unique perspective through a series of letters. Her nine years of correspondence demonstrated a country going through growing pains: from political unrest to the SARS epidemic to budding prosperity. Amy battled language barriers, cultural faux pas, and invasive mice with nothing to lose. She even fought for her life with a potentially deadly illness, unsure if she'd survive to share her tale. Throughout her journey, Amy drew strength from God and came to appreciate the beauty and power of an ordinary life lived well. Love, Amy: An Accidental Memoir Told in Newsletters from China is one woman's deeply moving journey of self-transformation. If you like humorous anecdotes, immersions in Eastern culture, and honest stories that aren't afraid to dig deep, then you'll love Amy Young's heartfelt tale.
