The Modern Royal Family

The Modern Royal Family

John Blake Publishing Ltd

They have been dubbed 'the modern royals' by the world's media, and have not only won the hearts and the loyalty of millions of people around the world, but have helped to re-establish the British royal family as an important, and largely admired, presence in national and international affairs. In short, Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge - also known simply as 'William and Kate' - have done as much as anyone to bring the royal family into the twenty-first century, and to keep it firmly in the national consciousness. The birth of Prince George, their first child, on 22 July 2013, fuelled such a worldwide media and public frenzy that it became the most talked-about event of the year. The birth of a future heir, combined with the historic possibility of the first baby to be born not only to a Queen-in-waiting, but to the son of the much mourned Diana, Princess of Wales, accounted for much of the excitement, but that was stoked by a natural affection for the young couple. From the beginning, the world had watched with bated breath as the charming Prince William and his future bride overcame the struggles of university, rumours and a brief break-up before finally reconciling and becoming engaged. Their ceremonial wedding in 2011 - watched by an incredible estimated 2 billion people worldwide - was a defining moment, not only in their young lives, but also for the perception of the monarchy. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have come to embody the spirit and hope of their nation, and their deserved popularity has had a profound effect upon the future of the royal family. As well as a history of the young couple's romantic relationship, this in-depth book chronicles the next chapters in this modern fairy tale, backed by beautiful photographs, fascinating facts and expert analysis. Now completely revised and updated to cover the period from the birth of Prince George to the arrival of the new prince or princess in April 2015, the book is both an intriguing insight into modern royalty, and an unrivalled souvenir.
Metal Complexes in Aqueous Solutions

Metal Complexes in Aqueous Solutions

Arthur E. Martell; Robert D. Hancock

Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers

Stability constants are fundamental to understanding the behavior of metal ions in aqueous solution. Such understanding is important in a wide variety of areas, such as metal ions in biology, biomedical applications, metal ions in the environment, extraction metallurgy, food chemistry, and metal ions in many industrial processes. In spite of this importance, it appears that many inorganic chemists have lost an appreciation for the importance of stability constants, and the thermodynamic aspects of complex formation, with attention focused over the last thirty years on newer areas, such as organometallic chemistry. This book is an attempt to show the richness of chemistry that can be revealed by stability constants, when measured as part of an overall strategy aimed at understanding the complexing properties of a particular ligand or metal ion. Thus, for example, there are numerous crystal structures of the Li+ ion with crown ethers. What do these indicate to us about the chemistry of Li+ with crown ethers? In fact, most of these crystal structures are in a sense misleading, in that the Li+ ion forms no complexes, or at best very weak complexes, with familiar crown ethers such as l2-crown-4, in any known solvent. Thus, without the stability constants, our understanding of the chemistry of a metal ion with any particular ligand must be regarded as incomplete. In this book we attempt to show how stability constants can reveal factors in ligand design which could not readily be deduced from any other physical technique.
Manifolds and Mechanics

Manifolds and Mechanics

Arthur Jones; Alistair Gray; Robert Hutton

Cambridge University Press
1987
pokkari
This book provides an easy introduction to the theory of differentiable manifolds. The authors then show how the theory can be used to develop, simply but rigorously, the theory of Lanrangian mechanics directly from Newton's laws. Unnecessary abstraction has been avoided to produce an account suitable for students in mathematics or physics who have taken courses in advanced calculus.

Is the American Revolution continuing? The events of 1776-1781 were just the beginning ands the revolution goes on today. In the 19th and 20th centuries we solved many of our physical problems, but now we need to solve people problems, such as divorce, wars, and ignorance. The authors, a psychologist and an Education professor recommend the use of Humanistic Psychology as a way of approaching what they consider to be the most serious problems of the 21st Century. Find out why psychology is so important to everyone at this time.

Building on the authors’ celebrated work in cognitive coaching, this important book provides teachers, schools, and policy leaders with the rationale and new direction for enhancing the development of the intellectual capacity of educators, their performance and ultimate effects on student learning. The authors focus on assisting teachers in developing awareness in their own ability to make effective judgments based on all their capabilities and experiences. When teachers weave internal expertise and external criteria together into the exquisite tapestry of teaching and learning, they gain confidence in their ability to make a difference for all students. Rather than spending time becoming better inspectors and enforcers, Cognitive Capital calls for skilful leaders to engage educators’ thought processes which promote practices that have high impacts on their students.
