Instant New York Times Bestseller - People's Book of the WeekFrom Adriana Trigiani, the beloved New York Times-bestselling author of The Shoemaker's Wife, comes an exhilarating epic novel of love, loyalty, and creativity--the story of an Italian-American family on the cusp of change. It's 1949 and South Philadelphia bursts with opportunity during the post-war boom. The Palazzini Cab Company & Western Union Telegraph Office, owned and operated by Dominic Palazzini and his three sons, is flourishing: business is good, they're surrounded by sympathetic wives and daughters-in-law, with grandchildren on the way. But a decades-long feud that split Dominic and his brother Mike and their once-close families sets the stage for a re-match. Amidst the hoopla, the arrival of an urgent telegram from Italy upends the life of Nicky Castone (Dominic and his wife's orphaned nephew) who lives and works with his Uncle Dom and his family. Nicky decides, at 30, that he wants more--more than just a job driving Car #4 and more than his longtime fianc e Peachy DePino, a bookkeeper, can offer. When he admits to his fianc e that he's been secretly moonlighting at the local Shakespeare theater company, Nicky finds himself drawn to the stage, its colorful players and to the determined Calla Borelli, who inherited the enterprise from her father, Nicky must choose between the conventional life his family expects of him or chart a new course and risk losing everything he cherishes. From the dreamy mountaintop village of Roseto Valfortore in Italy, to the vibrant streets of South Philly, to the close-knit enclave of Roseto, Pennsylvania, to New York City during the birth of the golden age of television, Kiss Carlo is a powerful, inter-generational story that celebrates the ties that bind, while staying true to oneself when all hope seems lost.Told against the backdrop of some of Shakespeare's greatest comedies, this novel brims with romance as long buried secrets are revealed, mistaken identities are unmasked, scores are settled, broken hearts are mended and true love reigns. Trigiani's consummate storytelling skill and her trademark wit, along with a dazzling cast of characters will enthrall readers. Once again, the author has returned to her own family garden to create an unforgettable feast. Kiss Carlo is a jubilee, resplendent with hope, love, and the abiding power of la famiglia.

Monte Carlo Methods and Codes for Nuclear Engineering Analysis
Monte Carlo Methods and Codes for Nuclear Engineering Analysis provides a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art in radiation transport methods used by Monte Carlo (MC) codes. It explores the real-world implementation of these methods in codes used by nuclear scientists and engineers, considering the advantages and disadvantages of the various techniques, design philosophies and algorithm implementations. After a foreword and introduction giving a brief history of Monte Carlo methods, code systems, and their applications in nuclear science and engineering, subsequent chapters describe the fundamentals of Monte Carlo radiation transport methods by dividing the field into a number of topics or focus areas. Subjects selected include potential geometry and particle tracking, nuclear data, variance reduction, time-dependent analysis and parallel computing. Each chapter presents a comprehensive survey of the state-of-the-art implementations, algorithms, and methodologies used by production-level Monte Carlo codes for the area. A concluding chapter provides a handy summary by briefly listing the methods used by key Monte Carlo codes for each focus area in several tables. This book is an essential guide to Monte Carlo methods and codes for nuclear scientists, engineers and code developers in academia and industry and students studying this topic.
Monte Carlo Modeling for Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis
This book describes how Monte Carlo modeling methods can be applied to Electron Microscopy and Microanalysis. Computer programs for two basic types of Monte carlo simulation are developed from physical models of the electron scattering process; a Single Scattering program capable of high accuracy but requiring long computation times, and a Plural Scattering program which is less accurate but much more rapid. The programs are optimised for use on personal computers and provide a real time graphical display of the interaction. These programs are then used as the starting point for the development of programs aimed at studying particular effects in the electron microscope including backscattering, secondary electron production, EBIC and cathodo- luminescence imaging, and X- ray microanalysis. The computer code is given in a fully annotated format so that it may be readily be modified for use in specific problems. Many examples of the applications of these methods are provided, together with a complete bibliography.
Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamics Simulations in Polymer Science
Edited by a world class polymer physicist, this is a book with chapters contributed by leading experts on the various computer simulation techniques used for macromolecular materials. It describes how to use simulation to explain experimental data and gain insight into structure and dynamic properties of polymeric structures. Explanations are given on how to overcome particular challenges posed by large size and slow relaxation polymer coils. Many important applications are covered including their current reviews.

nidottu
This book provides an introduction to Monte Carlo simulations in classical statistical physics and is aimed both at students beginning work in the field and at more experienced researchers who wish to learn more about Monte Carlo methods. The material covered includes methods for both equilibrium and out of equilibrium systems, and common algorithms like the Metropolis and heat-bath algorithms are discussed in detail, as well as more sophisticated ones such as continuous time Monte Carlo, cluster algorithms, multigrid methods, entropic sampling and simulated tempering. Data analysis techniques are also explained starting with straightforward measurement and error-estimation techniques and progressing to topics such as the single and multiple histogram methods and finite size scaling. The last few chapters of the book are devoted to implementation issues, including discussions of such topics as lattice representations, efficient implementation of data structures, multispin coding, parallelization of Monte Carlo algorithms, and random number generation. At the end of the book the authors give a number of example programs demonstrating the applications of these techniques to a variety of well-known models.

Monte Carlo Simulation with Applications to Finance
Developed from the author’s course on Monte Carlo simulation at Brown University, Monte Carlo Simulation with Applications to Finance provides a self-contained introduction to Monte Carlo methods in financial engineering. It is suitable for advanced undergraduate and graduate students taking a one-semester course or for practitioners in the financial industry. The author first presents the necessary mathematical tools for simulation, arbitrary free option pricing, and the basic implementation of Monte Carlo schemes. He then describes variance reduction techniques, including control variates, stratification, conditioning, importance sampling, and cross-entropy. The text concludes with stochastic calculus and the simulation of diffusion processes. Only requiring some familiarity with probability and statistics, the book keeps much of the mathematics at an informal level and avoids technical measure-theoretic jargon to provide a practical understanding of the basics. It includes a large number of examples as well as MATLAB® coding exercises that are designed in a progressive manner so that no prior experience with MATLAB is needed.

Monte Carlo Methods for Electromagnetics

nidottu
Until now, novices had to painstakingly dig through the literature to discover how to use Monte Carlo techniques for solving electromagnetic problems. Written by one of the foremost researchers in the field, Monte Carlo Methods for Electromagnetics provides a solid understanding of these methods and their applications in electromagnetic computation. Including much of his own work, the author brings together essential information from several different publications.Using a simple, clear writing style, the author begins with a historical background and review of electromagnetic theory. After addressing probability and statistics, he introduces the finite difference method as well as the fixed and floating random walk Monte Carlo methods. The text then applies the Exodus method to Laplace’s and Poisson’s equations and presents Monte Carlo techniques for handing Neumann problems. It also deals with whole field computation using the Markov chain, applies Monte Carlo methods to time-varying diffusion problems, and explores wave scattering due to random rough surfaces. The final chapter covers multidimensional integration.Although numerical techniques have become the standard tools for solving practical, complex electromagnetic problems, there is no book currently available that focuses exclusively on Monte Carlo techniques for electromagnetics. Alleviating this problem, this book describes Monte Carlo methods as they are used in the field of electromagnetics.
