Who's afraid of for-profit education? Those who work in non-profit or government owned and operated schools. Many parents and other stakeholders have been made fearful by this education establishment. What's more important to humans: nutrition or education? Nutrition is more important because it is the prerequisite for other human activities, including education. What organizations provide food and who pays for the food? Food is provided by for-profit farmers, for-profit processors, for-profit wholesalers, and for-profit retailers. Most food is purchased with the consumers' own money, but a significant amount is purchased by low-income individuals using food stamps. Why can't education be provided similarly using education stamps? We trust for-profit enterprises to provide our food. Why can't we trust for-profit enterprises to provide K-12 education? Fearmongers have frightened us and made us into gullible compliant socialists who despise commercial activities in education. Go to the supermarket and ponder its marvelous array of foods and then contemplate how a for-profit K-12 education sector would please and amaze its customers.

Ever since the first Swedish-born immigrants to Oregon began settling in the 1850s, Swedes have had a big impact on its development. Among the first immigrants was shoemaker Carl M. Wiberg, who arrived in the summer of 1852 and settled in Portland. By 1930, roughly 45 percent of all Swedish immigrants were living in the Portland metro area. Other areas of Swedish settlement included Astoria, Coos Bay, Tillamook, southwestern Oregon, and Morrow County. At first, the Swedish language was the unifying force among the immigrants. Today, it is the celebration and sharing of Swedish traditions and culture. There are many reasons why Swedes were attracted to the United States, including religious freedom, better economic conditions, and, for young men, escaping compulsory military service. Many immigrant Swedes did not come directly to Oregon but were attracted to the state and its employment opportunities after the completion of the transcontinental railroad.

Discover a biblical approach to welcome individuals and families affected by disability as equal and vital members of the fellowship by reading Paul from a new perspective. David W. Anderson, the founder and president of Crossing Bridges, Inc., a nonprofit ministry, follows up on his previous books on how the church can serve those with disabilities in this analysis of what the Bible says on the topic. The emphasis is on practical, everyday implications of theology to life experiences and relationships. The author explores topics such as: - actions we can take to lend credibility to our Christian witness, such as focusing on compassion, hospitality, and Christlike character. - steps we can take to help individuals and families dealing with disability avoid feeling spiritually isolated. Paul does not directly teach about disability, but his writing highlights how Christians should relate to others with acceptance, love, humility, patience, and equality. Thinking theologically about disability includes seeking to understand the place and purpose of disability in general, and how to minister with persons and families facing a disabling condition.

Apology is David Wesley Anderson's second edition publication of the 2017 micro poetry book. It is the third and final book in the series that includes Simply You and Only You. Once again, David takes his micro poems and creates a story about love and all its many failures to find its possible victory. Following the structure of the previous two books in the poetic series, Apology has four sections. The Rain, The Maelstrom, The Sky, and Wraiths come together into one story about redeeming love for the poet, his muse, and their relationship. "When we saw the end we held tighter..." implies the downtrodden aspects of the love tale, leading into one of the last poems with the title, "We Must Make Due." In between, Apology is full of longing and hints at the inevitable remnants of love pulling at both the poet and his muse to return to each other. Like the first edition, Apology still poses questions to identify the purpose of the title: Who is apologizing? What happened? Who wronged first? Who damaged all the love? There's a powerful focus on metaphors about the cosmos, from "sudden cosmic collision" to "a thousand million worlds." These ideas help create the energy of the poems as an ongoing cycle of building and rebuilding after destruction. David's use of long form keeps each poem creatively independent, but together in Apology, they are a conclusive narrative in the series after Simply You and Only You. When David urges his muse to "Let us make our own reality," the reader becomes part of that creation in the pages of Apology.

Les Trois Papillons: The Three Butterflies

LES TROIS PAPILLONS ('The Three Butterflies') is a story about three generations of men who fall into misfortune because of a bad decisions made at key junctures in their lives. Oddly, the timing of their decisions coincides with the 28-year cyclical migration of Swallowtail butterflies out of the south of France. The plot begins in Germany in 1944, resurfaces in 1972, and concludes in America in 2000. Thus, each chapter is divided into three sub-chapters describing each man's journey until the climactic final chapter where their lives converge. While there are three distinct plots, there is really only one true protagonist, Mitchell Jameson. Mitchell is an American author who in the year 2000 uncovers the hidden lives of the other two men, men he is devoting his latest novel to. One of the subjects is his estranged biological father, a US Army officer during the Vietnam War; the other is his Grandfather, a German SS prison guard at the notorious Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during World War II. As for himself, Mitchell is in the middle of tragic marital affair with the timing of the infidelity taking place during the migration of the butterflies. For Mitchell the doomsday timing seems too coincidental for his fate not to already be sealed. But the real question for Mitchell becomes how much does free will determine his destiny or is his destiny preordained, as if by some genetic predisposition. Will he repeat the tragic patterns of his father and grandfather? And, being a writer, how much of an illusion has his imagination played in discovering the supposed truths about his predecessors, especially with so little information about them available 28 and 56 years after-the-fact. Ultimately, the question for Mitchell is will he fight fate or choose his own destiny and reunite with his wife..............................Classified as a literary fiction, because of the historic perspective of the plots, this novel can also fall under the 'historical fiction' genre. Originally penned in 2001, this novel has been completely rewritten and revamped. Today, it is considered one of David Martin Anderson's best stories.

'Hunting Snipes +four' is a collection of five great novellas, an award winning anthology, that transports a reader's imagination to worlds non d couvert- an Indian raid in West Texas in 1867, encounters with the ghost of Cole Porter, Iowa during the 2020 pandemic, southern Utah and a serial killer hunting an elderly couple, and Beggar's Night in 1938 Brooklyn and the infamous Orson Welles radio broadcast of 'The War of the Worlds.' The collection makes into a great instructional literary tome for high school seniors (ages 16+). Each story is concise and visual with crisp realistic dialogue."David Martin Anderson is a fresh voice and you only need to read one of his stories for him to draw your attention.... As a collection, 'Hunting Snipes +four' appears effortless by the way all elements interact. It is a book that is easy to finish, or you can digest it one novella at a time." "Relationship and fellowship are two key concepts in our Christian life. Relationship with God begins at the moment of Salvation and can never be broken. Fellowship with God can be interrupted when we sin. Understanding how the two are distinguished and how they are related is crucial to your Christian life. One does not have to agree with Anderson on every point to benefit greatly from this helpful book."Dr. David L. AllenDistinguished Professor of Preaching, George W. Truett Chair of MinistrySouthwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas"With outstanding scholarship and insightful exegetical and theological reflection, Dr. Anderson shows that God's way of relating to children has always been in terms of relationship and fellowship. Our relationship with God can never be lost but our fellowship varies with our faith and obedience. He demonstrates that the Abrahamic and Mosaic covenants are paralleled by other Ancient Near Eastern covenants between the monarch and his servants. Abraham began an eternal relationship with God in the Abrahamic Covenant. However, in the Mosaic Covenant He provided the conditions for fellowship with God for those who are in relationship with Him, that is, are saved. The implications on our daily walk with Christ are significant."Dr. Joseph DillowPresident Emeritus of BEE WorldAuthor of Final Destiny"Dr. David Anderson's book, Relationship and Fellowship, is an unusual linking of easily accessible sermonic materials from a lifetime of rich preaching on the topic, and deeply detailed scholarly writing on the underlying exegetical and theological issues. In effect, the sermons in the first part of the book show practical application of the basic ideas; the second part of the book is like a Grand Footnote that explains that which informs the sermonic content. The great contribution of Anderson's book is his understanding that the Torah, Yahweh's Law for Israel, was a gift to a Redeemed People to maintain their Fellowship with God rather than a series of encouragements and threats to an unregenerate community to establish their Relationship with God."Dr. Ronald B. AllenSenior Professor of Bible ExpositionDallas Theological Seminary"The important distinction between relationship to Christ and fellowship with him is generally lost in the thinking of the average Christian. Professor Anderson has in this work clarified the issue and in an engaging and persuasive manner. I highly recommend this book for saints of all ages and theological sophistications."Eugene H. Merrill, PhDDistinguished Professor of Old Testament Studies Emeritus (ret.)Dallas Theological Seminary
