Nancy finds herself a Christmas mystery in this super special book of the Nancy Drew Diaries, a fresh approach to the classic mystery series. Nancy is spending her winter vacation at the most beautiful ski resort in Montana. Everything looks perfect, from the spectacular mountain views to the cozy rooms complete with fireplaces and holiday decorations. Unfortunately, not all is as jolly as it seems. Things started to go wrong on her very first day; she hit a bad patch of ice on a run down the slopes and broke her leg in a couple of different places. Then a doctor decided she needed a giant cast and lots of bed rest. It's been a week of unfortunate events for rest the resort too; there was a sabotaged opening dinner, multiple hotel room break-ins, and a dangerous trap was set for the star chef. And if Nancy thought things couldn't get any worse, a giant storm is heading their way and may just snow everyone in for days. Trapped in a hotel with someone bent on destruction? Cast or no cast, this sleuth is on the case. As Christmas approaches, both guests and staff are starting to panic. With all the odds stacked against her, can Nancy solve these crimes in time and save the holiday season? Or is this one Yuletide she'll wish to forget?

"He Who Sells What Isn't His'n Must Buy it Back or Go to Pris'n." --"Uncle Dan'l" Drew Long out of print and virtually unavailable for years, THE BOOK OF DANIEL DREW is the irresistible story of a country boy who grew up to become Wall Street's first great speculator. Told for the most part in his own salty language - of his early life as a cattle drover, as a profiteer of "watered" cattle (a scheme he later used in the stock deal in the famed Erie Railroad operation), of his building of a fortune on Wall Originally published in 1910, THE BOOK OF DANIEL DREW is a true classic of the stock market. It's a fascinating look at an era in American financial history whose ethos was "anything goes" and anything did!
Sports Illustrated Drew Brees
Celebrating a New Orleans icon and one of football’s most beloved superstars Drew Brees describes his arrival in New Orleans as “a calling.” Following a catastrophic shoulder injury and a handful of years with the San Diego Chargers, Brees hit the ground running with the Saints, leading the team to the playoffs in his very first season and building toward the ultimate prize: the franchise’s first ever Super Bowl title. By the time he hung up his cleats in 2021, the Saints QB had won 172 games as a starting quarterback, led the NFL in passing yards seven times, and fashioned more than 50 game-winning drives. He won the 2004 Comeback Player of the Year award and was named to 13 Pro Bowls. These moments and memories are collected in Drew Brees: A Tribute to the Saint of New Orleans, a fully illustrated gift book commemorating the 20-year career of one of the most beloved Saints players in history. Featuring more than 100 photographs and unparalleled written coverage from the pages of Sports Illustrated™, this new volume provides readers a complete portrait of the ultimate team player whose impact on the Saints franchise cannot be overstated—from his earliest days in New Orleans to the euphoria of Super Bowl XLIV and beyond. This commemorative book also features SI’s best written coverage of Brees’s career, including pieces by Tim Layden, Greg Bishop, and more.
A Nancy Drew Christmas: Volume 18
Nancy finds herself a Christmas mystery in this super special eighteenth book of the Nancy Drew Diaries series, a fresh approach to the classic mystery series. Nancy Drew's dad surprises her with a trip to a beautiful New England ski resort for Christmas break. Nancy is so excited. What could be better than a whole week of skiing and five-star dining? But no vacation can go smoothly when Nancy is involved. On her very first run down the slopes, Nancy hits a bad patch of ice and takes a serious tumble. A doctor sends her back to the hotel in a cast and mandates twelve days of bed rest. That means no long car trips back to River Heights and twelve days of sitting around. Luckily, there's still the five-star dining and beautiful views. Just hours into her convalescence, Nancy witnesses something very suspicious through another hotel room window. And when she presses the concierge she learns there have been mysterious break-ins throughout the hotel. It's clear someone has been going into guest's rooms but, as far as anyone can tell, nothing has been taken. Nancy can't resist--she has to investigate. Only trouble is, she's still bed bound. Taking some cues from Home Alone's Kevin McCallister, Nancy devises some clever schemes to get her investigating done from her bed. But for all her plans, Nancy still can't find the source of the break-ins. Or the purpose. What's worse the mood of the hotel has turned decidedly un-merry. People are leaving in droves and the jolly hotel owner is worried about the hotel's success. With all the odds stacked against her, can Nancy solve this crime in time to save Christmas? Or is this one Yuletide she'll wish to forget?

An inspiring true story of hope and survival, this is the testimony of a boy who was imprisoned in Auschwitz, Gross-Rosen and Buchenwald and recorded his experiences through words and color drawings. In June 1943, after long years of hardship and persecution, thirteen-year-old Thomas Geve and his mother were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Separated upon arrival, he was left to fend for himself in the men's camp of Auschwitz I.During 22 harsh months in three camps, Thomas experienced and witnessed the cruel and inhumane world of Nazi concentration and death camps. Nonetheless, he never gave up the will to live. Miraculously, he survived and was liberated from Buchenwald at the age of fifteen. While still in the camp and too weak to leave, Thomas felt a compelling need to document it all, and drew over eighty drawings, all portrayed in simple yet poignant detail with extraordinary accuracy. He not only shared the infamous scenes, but also the day-to-day events of life in the camps, alongside inmates' manifestations of humanity, support and friendship. To honor his lost friends and the millions of silenced victims of the Holocaust, in the years following the war, Thomas put his story into words. Despite the evil of the camps, his account provides a striking affirmation of life. The Boy Who Drew Auschwitz is the unique testimony of young Thomas and his quest for a brighter tomorrow.

Titular series heroine Nancy Drew has taken up most of the scholarly attention surrounding mid-century U.S. girls’ series, and for good reason given her popularity, longevity, and feminist leanings. Since her debut in the 1930s, Nancy has been foiling criminals for nearly a century. However, Nancy and her heroics do not occur in either a publishing or a temporal vacuum. The chapters in this collection examine the narratives of series heroines that preceded and those that followed Nancy Drew, each in relation to their social, historical, and economic environments. Covering heroines including Miss Pickerell, Madge Sterling, and Polly the Powers Model, among others, this book illustrates that the recovery of stolen inheritances during the Great Depression serves different social ends than, for example, fighting Germans on an international stage. While Nancy Drew’s plotlines may have evolved alongside the changing historical context, this book invites readers to critically examine the stories of some of these other “lost” heroines of twentieth century U.S. series fiction. Organized by time period, the chapters give insight into the cultural landscape that perpetuated the popularity of these heroines in their respective eras, how these series reflected the experiences of readers across the decades, and their continued impact well into the twenty-first century.

Marrying the precise yet nuanced language of his earlier work with new, invented vocabularies and usages, Nicola Vulpe draws deep into the origins of language to confront what it means to write poetry or attempt any artistic endeavour, or, indeed, continue in a world where so many of us struggle, literally, not to drown. Written to be read aloud, to be heard like a poem in the most ancient oral traditions, Through the Waspmouth is a synesthetic work that arouses our senses and our intellect. We come to this poem as to a new language, a language whose details and mechanics are opaque, but which, like a child turning to innate linguistic resources, we nonetheless somehow understand, and into which we are drawn and held in thrall.

The Men Who Drew for Boys (and Girls): 101 Forgotten Illustrators of Children's Books 1844 - 1970
This book records the lives and works of 101 "forgotten" illustrators of children's books. For the most part, they worked during what has been called the "Golden Age" of children's book illustration, but while they were contemporaneous with artists such as Walter Crane, Edmund Dulac, Louis Wain, Arthur Rackham, Cecil Aldin and Randolph Caldecott, most are now barely remembered (if, indeed, they are remembered at all). They were all commissioned to provide illustrations for children's fiction, for the thousands of historical, adventure, school, mystery, war, Wild West and other novels that were published from the 1869s onwards. Many also illustrated other types of children's books - picture books for the nursery, fairy stories, bible stories, and school readers and textbooks. Some were remarkably prolific, while others illustrated only a handful of books. Many also contributed to children's story papers, magazines and comics, from the "penny dreadfuls" of the late 19th century and the comics and story papers published by Alfred Harmsworth and the Amalgamated Press to the more "respectable" periodicals such as "The Boy's Own Paper", "Chums" and "The Captain". Many also illustrated adult fiction and non-fiction, and many contributed, often prolifically, to the leading news, general interest and fiction periodicals of the day. Furthermore, many were well-known, well-respected and successful painters, and while they are still well-known today - for example Terence Cuneo, Rowland Hilder and George Soper - their work as children's illustrators is now wholly overlooked. By providing life stories and comprehensive bibliographies of each illustrator's work, this book aims to give recognition where it is long overdue, to correct many of the mistakes made in previous reference sources, and to remember a body of artists many of whom have been unjustly neglected.Robert J. Kirkpatrick is the author of "The Encyclopaedia of Boys' School Stories" (2000); "Bullies, Beaks and Flannelled Fools: An Annotated Bibliography of Boys' School Fiction 1742-2000" (2001); "From the Penny Dreadful to the Ha'penny Dreadfuller: A Bibliographic History of the Boys' Periodical in Britain, 1762-1950" (2013); "Pennies, Profits and Poverty: A Biographical Directory of Wealth and Want in Bohemian Fleet Street" (2016); and "Charles Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby and the Yorkshire Schools: Fact v Fiction" (2017).
