bonnie lenore kyburz' reflective and deeply felt sense of (her) place in Composition creates room to consider some of the rhetorical dimensions and pedagogical implications of film work in writing classrooms and as digital scholarship. Invoking affect theorist Lauren Berlant's concept of "cruel optimism" to articulate the findings of her archival, analytical, and experiential methods, Cruel Auteurism describes a cultural shift within the discipline, from the primacy of print-based arguments, through an evolving desire to generate cinematic rhetorics, toward increasingly visible forms of textual practice currently shaping composition classrooms and digital scholarship.
In Torah Tutor, Rabbi Lenore Bohm draws on a lifetime of teaching about the Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, starting with Genesis. Early reviewers of the book praise the timeliness of the themes lifted up in this contemporary self-guided study, which is ideal for individual seekers and group discussions."Reading this may become one of the most meaningful parts of your week, renewing, enriching and energizing you," says the Foreword by Rabbi Sally J. Priesand, America's first woman ordained as a rabbi. Priesand calls Torah Tutor "a well-researched volume relying on the wisdom of diverse scholars. Torah Tutor is organized according to the weekly portion, or parasha. After summarizing the parasha's basic events, Bohm draws our attention to verses that stand out, some of which we may not have realized originate in the Torah. This is followed by ideas to think or talk about, making the portion easy to approach for individual study or group discussion. Finally, Rabbi Bohm offers a focus phrase to strengthen our spiritual awareness during the week."Whether reading as an individual or discussing the weekly readings with others, Priesand says these reflections will lead to moral, spiritual and intellectual growth. Each reader is likely to uncover different treasures in these pages. "Where we are in our own lives at a particular moment enriches the search and the discovery," she writes.Christian reviewers find the same is true as they also seek to study these shared sacred books. "As a Christian, I have always loved the stories and wisdom in the Bible. Rabbi Bohm expresses that same love in Torah Tutor. With each portion of the Torah, she lovingly crafts questions and insights that draw us into the heart of God," says the Rev. Sharon Buttry, an author and peace activist in American Baptist Churches.Scholars praise the breadth and depth of the book. Jessica Pressman, Professor of English and Comparative Literature, San Diego State University, writes: "Rabbi Lenore Bohm offers her heart and wisdom but also, importantly, her expertise in arranging, managing, and navigating the immensity of Torah study. In this short, brilliantly organized book, Rabbi Bohm provides scaffolding for accessing Torah, for learning to talk about, think, and focus on Torah. This is a gift of a book by a very gifted rabbi."

Two in the Field was inspired by God and written in 1995 while studying the scriptures. It is a book that reveals the two types of people in the world from a biblical and spiritual perspective. The dominant theme is taken from a parable of Christ according to Matthew, "Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left." Many people believe that those taken are the church (or the saints) during the rapture. This book will bring light to the subject through a detailing of the two types of people in the world.

From the Forward: Octavia Walton LeVert came from good stock. Her grandfather signed the Declaration of Independence. This multi-talented lady was a woman extraordinaire who accomplished many things in her lifetime. In this book, Paula Webb describes her as an author, wife, and mother known for being a gracious hostess who entertained famous poets and politicians. Her intelligence and ability to converse in several languages drew them to her. Octavia ventured far from her hometown of Mobile, Alabama. Extensive travel in the United States and abroad expanded her horizons, as did being accepted into wide circles of society, meeting a president and the Queen of England. Contrary to the norm of the era, this woman was accepted by males who sought her opinion and advice. She was a person first and a female second. Webb outlines the many facets of Octavia's personality, showing how she dealt with tragedy, adversity, and success. She takes readers through changing times leading up to the Civil War, illustrating how this Southern woman was torn by long-held loyalties conflicting with those of the region where she lived. Extensive research provides valid documentation from primary and secondary sources. Those specific, proper details prove Octavia was-as the title suggests-Such a Woman, a woman for all ages and seasons. The book is a page-turner and a must-read. It is timely and timeless, combined with an appealing style. When you have finished reading it, you will know Octavia.

This is a collection of songs, stories, poems, paintings and photos by Oliva Lenore. The verses are lyrical and depict the culture of the Ozarks, as do the paintings and photographs created by her.
In the historiography of the 18th century German philosophy and literature, the German tradition of language-based epistemology is largely overshadowed by the attention given to rationalist thought currents. The tradition of thought harking back to Leibniz' concept of cognitio symbolica and to English empiricism as represented by Bacon and Locke is frequently neglected, although this approach with its reconciliation of rationalist and empiricist elements was sustained until the end of the 18th century. With reference to empirically verifiable sources, the present study undertakes a systematic outline of the evolution of a semiotic concept of knowledge as reflected in the theoretical writings of the important philosopher and scientist Johann Heinrich Lambert (1728-1777), in the consistent incorporation of that concept in Herder's "Metakritik" and in the poetological account it is turned to in Jean Paul's "Vorschule der Asthetik" and Novalis' 'theoretical' works."
