Tell the Truth: The Collected Columns of Billy Frank Jr.
Ireland's Great Hunger Museum at Quinnipiac University publishes Famine Folios, a unique resource for students, scholars and researchers, as well as general readers, covering many aspects of the Famine in Ireland from 1845-1852 - the worst demographic catastrophe of nineteenth-century Europe. The essays are interdisciplinary in nature, and make available new research in Famine studies by internationally established scholars in history, art history, cultural theory, philosophy, media history, political economy, literature and music. The Great Hunger was the most gothic event in Ireland's history and has haunted Irish literature ever since. In the struggle to resist the diminishment of this tragic episode in Ireland's colonial history, Irish Gothic writers preserved the memory of the Famine when a general silence prevailed among historians and authors of the Victorian novel. Both Irish Gothic literature and the work of the modernists (Joyce, Yeats and Beckett) resonate with the cultural memory of the suffering of millions, either lying in unmarked graves or forcibly transplanted to a harsh new world. "Black Roads" traces the impact of the Famine on Irish literature from William Carlton's "The Black Prophet" (from which the title is taken) to more contemporary work by authors like Patrick McCabe, Seamus Heaney and Eavan Boland, and playwrights like Tom Murphy, Conor MacPherson and Marina Carr. Post Famine, "Black Roads" argues, all Irish literature is about the Famine, leaving the discussion about what "Irishness" means centered on what Seamus Deane described as "what the Famine means."

This book written in the early 1980s when the world was very differ-ent from the 21st-century Britain of today was published by Collins in their Fount Paperback series and ran into several editions. It has been out of print for many years but Issachar Ministries decided to reprint it in this new edition as its message is much needed today. The message is solidly rooted in biblical truth, but also has many stories from Dr Hill's long ministry which makes it very readable. The book begins with the dramatic story of the rescue of a small child in the Swiss Alps whose father risked his life to save her. This sets the scene for a review of the account of God's love for men and women whom he created in his own image and how this was revealed to the prophets of ancient Israel in the Bible. This new edition has been carefully updated and the message made relevant to 21st-century readers who will surely be blessed by it. The Rev Dr Clifford Hill MA, BD, PhD sociologist and theologian, is well-known as a writer, lecturer, preacher and broadcaster with a prophetic ministry. He has had many years' experience of working with church leaders of all denominations as well as working alongside political leaders in both Government and Opposition. He has written over 40 books ranging from sociological studies of race and community relationships to biblical commentaries but this is quite different and has an autobiographical narrative. He is currently editor-in-chief of the online magazine Prophecy Today. uk and, together with his wife Monica, codirects Issachar Ministries which seeks to support and encourage Bible believing Christians.
