In the very first book of this series, Nana is frightened by something unexpected in the middle of the night. Rushing towards safety, her parents are the only ones who can provide her comfort. This book is meant to show the importance of spending quality time and being there for our children. W. C. Jones demonstrates this by sharing stories families of all backgrounds can relate to.
Florence McGillivray The Forgotten Matriarch of Canadian Modernism
In the early twentieth century, Florence McGillivray was one of the most accomplished, prolific, and well-travelled female artists in Canada. Her peers recognized her skills and mastery in Post-Impressionistic and Modernistic styles and respected her as a tenured art instructor. But for the most part, history has forgotten her. A name almost everyone has heard of, on the other hand, is Tom Thomson. Tom was a family friend of Florence's, and there is evidence that she enlightened him about the international Modernist movement she had observed in Europe, planting a seed that would change Canadian art forever.

When Sad Sontag and Swede Harrison stumble upon the apparently lifeless body of "Sheep King" Dan Reynolds in San Francisco, they flee the hangman's noose to Singing River, Wyoming - a place mentioned in a telegram in Reynolds's room. But once they're taken on at the Two Bar J P, they find themselves caught up in a war of sheepmen versus cattlemen. Reynolds, needing more range for his sheep, has a finger in every pie, and spies across the land, including one at the Two Bar J P. Soon Sad and Swede are suspected of working for the sheepmen, while the recovering Reynolds is after them for helping the cattlemen. Just about everyone wants to capture or kill the two pards, it seems - but when the bullets start to fly, they're determined to stand their ground and see justice served.
The Ape, The Idiot, And Other People
"Mr W.C Morrow, who used to live in San Jose, California, was addicted to writing ghost stories which made the reader feel as if a stream of lizards, fresh from the ice, were streaking it up his back and hiding in his hair." THE DEVIL'S DICTIONARY, Ambrose Bierce. Apart from such praise from one of the greatest horror writers of them all, there is much else to recommend Morrow's stories; revenge beyond sanity, bizarre ends and unnesscary surgery all feature in this unjustly forgotten classic. Edited and with an introduction by Kevin Sweeney.
