This book examines the role of collective violence in the achievement of solidarity, shedding light on the difficulty faced by sociology in theorizing violence and warfare as a result of the discipline’s tendency to idealize society in an attempt to legitimize the idea of progressive social change. Using the global War on Terror as a focal point, the authors develop this argument through the related issues of power, knowledge, and ethics, explaining the War on Terror in terms of the Anglo-American tradition of imperial power and domination. Exploring the victimage rituals through which society is brought together in the ritual domination and destruction of a constructed "villain," Progressive Violence: Theorizing the War on Terror also considers the price of the liberal moral values in terms of which the global war on terror is frequently justified, and the volume of "progressive violence" involved in advancing the cause of freedom. The authors use this case to theorize the general role of vicarious victimage ritual in the social genesis of political violence and sadism, and its calculated use by politicians to achieve their imperial aims. Cancer is a condition where cells in a specific part of the body grow and reproduce uncontrollably. A key factor in the lack of improvement in prognosis over the years is the fact that a significant proportion of oral SCCs are not diagnosed or treated until they reach an advanced stage. This diagnostic delay may be caused by either patients (who may not report unusual oral features) or health care workers (who may not investigate observed lesions thoroughly), and it is presumed that such delays are longer for asymptomatic lesions. Identification of high-risk oral premalignant lesions and intervention at premalignant stages could constitute one of the keys to reducing the mortality, morbidity and cost of treatment associated with SCC.

Ce retard de diagnostic peut tre caus soit par les patients (qui ne signalent pas toujours les caract ristiques buccales inhabituelles), soit par le personnel de sant (qui n'examine pas toujours minutieusement les l sions observ es), et on suppose que ces retards sont plus longs pour les l sions asymptomatiques. L'identification des l sions buccales pr -malignes haut risque et l'intervention aux stades pr -malins pourraient constituer l'une des cl s de la r duction de la mortalit , de la morbidit et du co t des traitements associ s aux CCS.
