Lessons learned in Latin America is about the use and dissemination of cover crops in different agroecosystems need to be made more widely available not only to Spanish speaking, but also Anglophone regions. This publication aims to inform a wide range of actors involved in rural development projects, as well as those in applied research, of the potential of cover crops as components of low external input agricultural (LEIA) systems.Cover Crops are, or have the potential to be, an important component in complex, diverse, risk-prone and resource poor farming situations. The publication includes selected case studies from four different countries within Latin America. These address key issues regarding crop cover integration in LEIA systems. A wide range of agroecosystems are covered by the case studies, so that the information can be adapted for use in other regions. The key issues covered by the case studies are the following: Cover crops in annual cropping systems (Honduras), Cover crops in Perennial crops (Bolivia), Role of cover crops in animal husbandry (Mexico), Cover crop systems - Soil improvement and conservation (Honduras), Alternatives to slash-and-burn (Mexico), Diffusion aspects of cover crop based systems, Applied research activities for agricultural systems improvement (Bolivia), Action research with campesino farmers in South-East Mexico.
Cover Systems for Land Regeneration
Cover systems reduce the hazard to human health from contaminated land and provide a medium for plant growth but their design has sometimes been ad hoc, resulting in designs that may be unnecessarily thick, or inadequate. This publication and the accompanying CD ROM help you assess the need for cover systems to reduce exposure to contamination, and to design the thickness of such systems. The design method is intended for simple cover systems on brownfield sites where exposure to contamination must be reduced. The guidance is not appropriate for sites where contamination is so significant that exposure must be completely prevented. The CD ROM includes three elements: -Powerpoint Presentation: sets the scene and introduces the study that has led to the proposed new method for cover thickness design -Report: details the findings of an in-depth study of current design approaches, literature review and on-site research. It proposes a simple method for designing cover thickness and a more rigorous spreadsheet-based method and worked example -Spreadsheet: enables combinations of cover thickness and ground contamination for a wide range of contaminants to be incorporated easily into the design This suite of information and guidance has been prepared by RSK ENSR Ltd on behalf of the Association of Geotechnical and Geo-environmental Specialists in partnership with BRE.
Cover to Cover: A Panoramic View of Bible Themes
In his introduction, Dr. Logan states that he had two goals in mind when embarking on "Cover to Cover". The second of these was to stimulate interest in the Bible as a whole, from cover to cover, rather than the commonly read passages the Bible. God rarely places all the data regarding a subject on one page of Scripture, so the author contends that to get what he calls "the panoramic view" of a theme, strands of truth have to be drawn in from various areas of the Word of God. Clark has used his extensive Bible knowledge to explore different aspects of a range of subjects. Readers will be encouraged to broaden their own approach to the Scriptures, by familiarising themselves with the whole Book rather than being specialists in limited areas of the Bible. When Joshua was very elderly, there was "yet very much land to be possessed" (Josh 13.1). If that is true of your approach to the Bible, this book could motivate you to forge into new territory. However, the primary aim of the book is to present concise expositions of major Bible themes. Some of these are fundamental to Christian belief, described as "Central Themes". After first establishing that our only point of reference is the Bible, the inspired Word of God, Dr. Logan then explores its teaching about the Author Himself, His archenemy the devil, and other crucial subjects. There is the disclaimer that none of the themes is developed as an "in-depth study"; nevertheless, there is a fairly comprehensive treatment of each issue, with few stones left unturned; the book does not merely skim the surface of these great truths. A shorter section of the book is devoted to "Contrasting Themes", demonstrating that very often in the Bible, things that are apparently at variance, such as light and darkness, are placed in juxtaposition to elicit valuable spiritual lessons. Again, these are threads that run from "Cover to Cover" and for our benefit, the author has skilfully teased them out of the various areas of the Word where they feature. While the first two sections of the book are not bereft of practical matters that are crucial to Christian living, it is in the third section entitled "Challenging Themes", that matters are drawn from the inspired writings to demonstrate God's demands on His own people as to their attitudes and conduct. Ultimately it arrives back at the point where the treatise commenced; what is our attitude to this precious revelation from God that we call The Holy Bible? Clark appeals for a disciplined approach to both the reading and study of the Scriptures, with helpful advice at a very practical level.

It all started with The Jam logo... Well actually it all started many years before that, 1966 to be exact when I was 15 years old and not only discovered how much music meant to me but how much the album covers meant too. The Beatles Revolver album had some great pop tracks including one of my favourite songs - For No One - my first love began and ended that summer while I played that song constantly. The album also had a great sleeve by Klaus Voormann which, I found intriguing, with its line drawn portraits mixed with a photo-collage of the band. I was hooked and knew even then that I wanted to be part of this - I was never going to be a brilliant musician but maybe I could be involved with creating the images that went with the music. I spent so many happy hours in my local record store with headphones on in a booth, listening to the latest releases like Neil Young's After the Gold Rush album, studying the covers, reading the lyric sheets. I loved the stories, the unlimited possibilities to link pop and culture. The fact that it would always be there on the shelf for as long as the particular album was listened to and even longer when stored in a dusty cellar years after the record was no longer on the turntable. From that point on all roads led to Polydor Records and the first Jam album cover in 1977. During the 70's and 80's a number of new graphic designers found their way into the music business, Barney Bubbles' brilliant work for Stiff Records, Storm Thorgesen's Hipgnosis Pink Floyd covers, Malcolm Garrett's Buzzcocks sleeves, Stylorouge and Siouxsie and the Banshees, Form Design amongst many others, all helping to create a paradigm of album cover design, I joined these serried ranks in 1976. I had been at Polydor for a year or so as Art Director creating covers for artists as diverse as Peggy Lee, The Who and George Benson, I hadn't yet reached my nirvana but Nevermind... along came The Jam. A new band with new music to share and me with a 12-inch blank canvas to fill with ideas. An Art Director is a really great job, you come up with ideas with an artist and then you find amazing people to collaborate with and in partnership you make those ideas come to life. I ended up doing 5 album covers and 16 single bags for The Jam between 1977 and 1980, 3 short years of joy. I left Polydor in 1978 and set up my own studio in what was basically a corridor in a fashion house on Great Marlborough Street in London's West End. From that little cubby-hole I started working with many different record companies and many different bands and artists. Album covers are permanent items, unlike much packaging which is thrown away once the product is removed, the album cover becomes a possession and has a value beyond just protection. They are a collaboration and a partnership between musician, designer and record company. There are arguments and compromises, certainly many fights but in the end, the cover wins out. There have been many great art directors and designers, artists, photographers and typographers all helping to create cardboard packaging for some black vinyl, creating great, mediocre or downright rubbish sleeves, but always interesting and exciting. Between 1976 and 2019 we worked with over 200 different bands and artists, creating many hundreds of covers, all with a story... the book covers (sorry) just some of them.

A pilot's captivating autobiography that traces the development of night-flying from the early days of the Battle of Britain to the final triumph over Germany. Perfect for fans of Geoffrey Wellum, Eric Brown and Norman Hanson. What was it like to soar through the night sky fighting enemy aircraft in the Second World War? After completing intensive training Roderick Chisholm was thrust into the height of the Blitz to protect his country in the black of night. Guided by rudimentary radar he, along with his fellow pilots of 604 Squadron, developed the art of night-fighter operations. Fog, friendly-fire, disorientation, a Messerschmitt surprising you from behind - night-flying was a terrifying experience, even for skilled pilots, and Chisholm provides vivid insight into the hopes and fears of these men as they endeavoured to do their best in difficult conditions. Cover of Darkness records in fascinating detail how night-fighting progressed through the course of the war, initially through the use of radar, and later when Chisholm served in 100 Group Bomber Command developing radio counter-measures and organising fighter support for the bombers raiding Germany by night. "The very real merit of this book lies not so much in its most interesting account of night-fighting and night bombing during Hitler's war, as in its careful and impressive analysis of a pilot's mental reactions when flying at night on operations ... convincing and moving." Air Chief Marshal Sir Philip Joubert "This story ... continually impresses and satisfies. ... Chisholm] can admirably describe to the layman, with intelligence and without heartiness, what his work is about and what it meant to him ... A most intelligent and articulate book, charming and modest..." H. E. Bates

I kill for the money. The thrill. The condemnation.I plan to go to hell, so why not have some fun during the prolonged detour? But today... today I made an exception.Estelle Armstead was an easy mark. I could have ended her life the instant she opened her front door, refunded the one hundred thousand dollars my client paid to cause a ruckus, then went on my merry way. What stopped me? The simple answer is entertainment. One person's death can be easily replaced by another, but true entertainment for a man as immorally corrupt as me is hard to come by.Most men flounder when they see me, but Estelle took my bad temper in stride like it's a nasty side dish she can make more pleasant with a sprinkling of seasoning.I don't have the heart to tell her that won't be the case. I was born evil, bred evil, and I will die evil. But just like straitlaced men, murderers have needs too. Needs I can see Estelle's tight body and sassy mouth fulfilling.I've just got to take care of one matter first. The three hundred-thousand-dollar bounty on her head, and the weasel she calls her boyfriend.Clover is book 9 in the highly anticipated Italian Cartel Series. Although it can be read as a standalone it would be more enjoyable after the first three books in the series. Clover is mean, rough, and kills for a living. If grumpy alphas aren't your thing, his story may not be for you. Reader discretion is advised.
