The mission of the Church is to propagate the name of Jesus as mankind's only hope of salvation. But somehow, the Western Church has lost sight of this mission. Unless it can regain it, the Western Church faces certain death. In this penetrating study, Dr. Daniel Kolke reveals the forces that have diverted the Church from its mission. He writes: "The basic difficulty with Western churches is that they are hemmed in by all sorts of walls. These walls stem from the Churches in Asia of the first century A.D. The Book of Revelation makes mention of seven Churches that had enclosed themselves with seven different walls. It is the purpose of our study to identify these barriers that hindered the mission of the Churches then and today." The comparison proves to be startling. Today's Churches, like their predecessors, have been culturalized, politicized, nationalized, and secularized. As a result, the Western Church is dying. Dr. Kolke issues an appeal for a new revival in the Western Church to win over the individual to Christ. Without such a revival, he predicts that the Western Church will die in order to give birth to a new Church elsewhere. Readers will find The Church and Her Walls to be a timely and relevant book.
This collection of free verse poetry centers on relationships--how they are built, carried and occasionally lost. The Slow Wheel Toward Morning is a look at how we see ourselves and how we perceive we are seen by others. The poet's challenge is to rectify the two views without losing the value of each as they are.
The second collection of poetry by Daniel A. Clara, The Poet and the Beat is the writer's inner monologue as he considers the modern world and middle age. Drawing form and inspiration from the works of lauded poets Charles Bukowski and e.e. cummings, Daniel A. Clara finds his voice again as he wrestles with love, anger and reflection and the lessons that accompany mid-life experiences.
The Principles of Deep Learning Theory

sidottu
This textbook establishes a theoretical framework for understanding deep learning models of practical relevance. With an approach that borrows from theoretical physics, Roberts and Yaida provide clear and pedagogical explanations of how realistic deep neural networks actually work. To make results from the theoretical forefront accessible, the authors eschew the subject's traditional emphasis on intimidating formality without sacrificing accuracy. Straightforward and approachable, this volume balances detailed first-principle derivations of novel results with insight and intuition for theorists and practitioners alike. This self-contained textbook is ideal for students and researchers interested in artificial intelligence with minimal prerequisites of linear algebra, calculus, and informal probability theory, and it can easily fill a semester-long course on deep learning theory. For the first time, the exciting practical advances in modern artificial intelligence capabilities can be matched with a set of effective principles, providing a timeless blueprint for theoretical research in deep learning.
An observatory and a lighthouse form the nexus of this major new investigation of science, religion, and the state in late Ottoman Egypt. Astronomy, imperial bureaucrats, traditionally educated Muslim scholars, and reformist Islamic publications, such as The Lighthouse, are linked to examine the making of knowledge, the performance of piety, and the operation of political power through scientific practice. Contrary to ideas of Islamic scientific decline, Muslim scholars in the nineteenth century used a dynamic tradition of knowledge to measure time, compute calendars, and predict planetary positions. The rise of a 'new astronomy' is revealed to owe much to projects of political and religious reform: from the strengthening of the multiple empires that exercised power over the Nile Valley; to the 'modernization' of Islamic centers of learning; to the dream of a global Islamic community that would rely on scientific institutions to coordinate the timing of major religious duties.
Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) is an attachment-focused treatment for children and adolescents who have experienced abuse and neglect and are now living in stable foster and adoptive families. Here, Daniel Hughes and Kim S. Golding provide a practical accompaniment to their highly successful DDP book coauthored with Julie Hudson, Healing Relational Trauma with Attachment-Focused Interventions (2019). In this workbook, practitioners are invited to reflect on their experience of implementing the DDP model through discussion, examples and reflection prompts. Readers are encouraged to consider the diversity of both practitioners and those receiving DDP interventions, and how each unique individual’s identity can be embraced within the application of DDP interventions. DDP can be practised as a therapy, a parenting approach, and as a practice approach for those working within healthcare, social care or education, and this workbook is an invaluable resource for readers who fall into any one of these roles.

The 144th Ohio Volunteer Infantry formed in May 1864 with the express purpose of performing rear area guard duty, far removed from the front lines of the Civil War. But when Confederate General Jubal Early's army threatened Washington, the 144th Ohio sallied forth to stop it. Relive in the soldiers' own words the experiences of that last summer of the Civil War. Witness first hand the vicious fighting along the banks of the Monocacy River and agony of the Berryville Wagon Raid. This expanded third edition features an improved layout, regimental roster, and index along with several new photos. Drawing extensively from previously unpublished sources, No Greater Glory tells the complete story of northwest Ohio's forgotten regiment, the 144th O.V.I.
