"Part lyrical narrative, part bluesy riff, part schoolyard chant and part holy incantation" — New York Times Lucy Negro, Redux, uses the lens of Shakespeare's "Dark Lady" sonnets to explore the way questions about and desire for the black female body have evolved over time, from Elizabethan England to the Jim Crow South to the present day. Equally interested in the sensual and the serious, the erotic and the academic, this collection experiments with form, dialect, persona, and voice. Ultimately a hybrid document, Lucy Negro Redux harnesses blues poetry, deconstructed sonnets, historical documents and lyric essays to tell the challenging, many-faceted story of the Dark Lady, her Shakespeare, and their real and imagined milieu. Inspired by the book, The Nashville Ballet will premiere “Lucy Negro Redux,” an original ballet conceived and choreographed by Artistic Director & CEO, Paul Vasterling, in February 2019 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. A collaboration of music, poetry and choreography, this contemporary ballet based on Caroline Randall Williams’ book of poetry of the same name is unique in process, content and format. The project uses dance and music to execute the author’s exploration of more than 160 of Shakespeare’s sonnets, and her arrival to a thesis that the “Dark Lady” and the “Fair Youth”—the subjects and inspiration of these sonnets—were undoubtedly a black woman and a young man lover. Ultimately, in experiencing Lucy through themes of love, otherness and equality, the narrator, and thus the audience, finds a powerful female voice.
Heart in pieces post-divorce, Lucy Winthrop visits her Uncle Ben Morgan's ranch where she meets his younger brother, Richard. Her new neighbor back east, Richard is a self-made billionaire who goes after what he wants, and he wants Lucy. Back home in New England, they begin a white hot love affair. As the heat pumps up, Lucy tries to step back, scared she is in too deep, too fast. Will this gorgeous Morgan man let her go? And, in pulling away, is she giving up a dream of happiness she never thought possible? As Lucy and Richard's love story unfolds, join another branch of the Morgan family in this first book of Morgan's Fire
This book is based on my dog, Lucy, who I had for 16 years. She was quite a character and did all the things that are in this book. She loved my spaghetti with homemade sauce, watched TV shows featuring animals, hated baths, "sang" when music was played, and had two cherished possessions, a knotted rag and a ball. I hope you will enjoy reading about Lucy. She is no longer with us and can never be replaced.
Fans and admirers of superstar Lucille Ball are invited into an insider's album of a time as meaningful to the beloved actress as it was to the people of Jamestown, New York. Lucy Comes Home uncovers the local media extravaganza surrounding Lucy's homecoming celebration, her historic first return since her meteoric rise to fame, accompanied by husband Desi Arnaz. Organised around the premiere of their MGM movie, Forever, Darling, Lucy and Desi attended a host of media events in this whirlwind homecoming tour, and OIsen has carefully collected and curated the photographs and narratives surrounding this momentous occasion. Featuring more than 100 archival photographs, this sensational visit of the hometown girl offers a previously unpublished view of an intimate yet very public episode of Lucy's life, which she considered "one of the best days of [her] life." Olsen's connection to all things Lucy has its origins with his mother, then Janice Swanson, who was Lucy's 'Homecoming Queen' during the visit. He calls the book a love letter to both his mother and Lucy.
Though Lucy, Go See is the story of how a young girl from rural Iowa becomes an international model and the trouble she gets into and out of, and how she learns about the powerful autonomy of her sexual desire, it is also a deeper story of how integrity is formed while carrying an unvoiced, unrecognized wound. It is the story of a beautiful and ambitious young American woman whose instincts, curiousity, and principles are her guides on a quest simply to be herself in a world where she is repeatedly challenged by unrepentant male privilege. It is also the story of how a powerful mother's voice can aid in that journey. It is a deep, rollicking, riveting, unusually humorous, touching adventure in love, sex, and geography.
