Occam's Murder: A C. J. Whitmore Mystery
It is the first day of the new semester at prestigious Eaton University. In the Economics Department, the faculty is all atwitter over the upcoming election for department chair. The mild-mannered temporary chair Peter Johannson is running against with the ever-belligerent Walter Scovill. Who will win the post? As the candidates attempt to bribe, threaten, and cajole their way to victory, a new concern arises. The election can only take place if the required quorum is present for the vote. That may prove difficult as the department's amateur sleuth C. J. Whitmore discovers that one of her fellow faculty members is dead due to a knife wound across the throat. Can C.J. solve this murder and prevent any more deaths--at least so there are sufficient faculty members alive to form a quorum?"
Ostrom's Tensions: Reexamining the Political Economy and Public Policy of Elinor C. Ostrom
Elinor C. Ostrom won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2009, with recognition for her path-breaking work on institutions organized to address common-pool resource settings. She and her collaborator and spouse, Vincent Ostrom, contested the scholarship of mainstream political economy, public administration, and public policy in their quest to understand how individuals resolve a variety of social dilemmas. Ostrom's work challenged the belief that a system of governance based on expert public officials could perform better and should a priori be preferred to a system based on citizens' self-governance. Like any great and productive scholar, her body of work includes tensions, flaws, and inconsistencies that must be confronted by scholars looking to engage, critique, and advance her distinctive project in political economy.Starting from the recognition that Ostrom's work remains open for contestation and improvement, Ostrom's Tensions: Reexamining the Political Economy and Public Policy of Elinor C. Ostrom presents a critical assessment of Ostrom's research and ideas. The contributions to this edited volume, which include original chapters by several of Ostrom's colleagues and students, identify sources of tension within her writing. The research program Ostrom developed continues as an open-ended project advancing adaptable models and polycentric governance solutions rather than static models and one-size-fits-all policies. Taken as a whole, this volume identifies important questions and areas for future research by the next generation of political economists.

Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there . . . .In the afterglow, the grid vanished, and Ryan's breath caught in her throat when she saw what remained. There was Jean, walking through her living room just as she had imagined her. Except, this woman was outlined in a halo of blue light-a hologram with every living detail that had been Jean-when she was alive. When gifted homicide detective Ryan Mills is recruited to a top-secret FBI division known as S.P.E.C.T.E.R., the world of the supernatural becomes more real than she could have ever imagined. She is introduced to an incredible device known as LAZARUS, which can replay the events of a crime with the smallest pieces of available evidence. With the help of her new partner, Special Agent Sam Masters, and Dr. Matthew Holbrook, the research scientist who created Lazarus, Ryan is plunged into the paranormal exploration of unsolved murders. But Ryan holds a secret, one she can't share with her partner or Holbrook. That secret comes back to haunt her when a homicide crime scene holds clues to someone from her past and has torn at the edges of an eighteen-year old cold case: the disappearance and possible murder of her own sister. The killer has scrawled a message meant only for Special Agent Ryan Mills: "Yesterday, upon the stair, I met a man who wasn't there . . ."He's back. The only person who knows what happened to her sister. And he knows something about Ryan too . . . something even she doesn't know-yet.* * *CarrieMerrill.comGeneral Audience, those interested in psychic supernatural, paranormal, horror, mystery, thriller, suspensefrom Christopher Matthews Publishing, an imprint of First Steps Publishing

IS THIS A SELF-HELP BOOK? This is not a self-help book. However, it is how I helped myself cope with the illness that tried to rob me of my life. Some of you are reading my book because you have followed my blog, and for that, I am thankful for the support you've extended. You're all family. Hundreds of my fellow Crohnies put their trust in me and allowed me to speak for them when they had no voice. I thank you for entrusting me with some of your hardest and challenging times. Some of you may be reading this book, on the toilet, during a flare; others may be reading it because you just found out your child was diagnosed, or some may be trying to get information to help family or friends diagnosed with the same condition. I blogged, weekly, about Crohn's and I was also writing this book at the same time. So, for the people who don't enjoy reading long chapters, I thought, "Let's turn my blog into a book." Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, "Crohn's Disease, the other C WORD." ***** Whoever you are, stay strong, stay confident as fuck, and remember...you have a friend in Providence, Rhode Island. Now, let's get this bitch going.

This book presents groundbreaking new research on a fifteenth-century world map by Henricus Martellus, c. 1491, now at Yale. The importance of the map had long been suspected, but it was essentially unstudiable because the texts on it had faded to illegibility. Multispectral imaging of the map, performed with NEH support in 2014, rendered its texts legible for the first time, leading to renewed study of the map by the author. This volume provides transcriptions, translations, and commentary on the Latin texts on the map, particularly their sources, as well as the place names in several regions. This leads to a demonstration of a very close relationship between the Martellus map and Martin Waldseemüller’s famous map of 1507. One of the most exciting discoveries on the map is in the hinterlands of southern Africa. The information there comes from African sources; the map is thus a unique and supremely important document regarding African cartography in the fifteenth century. This book is essential reading for digital humanitarians and historians of cartography.
Sennacherib's Campaign Against Judah and Jerusalem in 701 B.C.
This study offers a reconstruction of Sennacherib’s campaign against Judah and Jerusalem in 701 BC. It contrasts and compares various, partly contradictious readings of this event and challenges established narratives. By giving equal weight to a great variety of different sources, whether literary or archaeological, the author comes to a new and profound understanding of this complex military conflict.
