Cook Book 2021

pokkari
This cook book is the culmination of the Home Cooking Challenge held at Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy in 2021. Food Technology teacher Jo Drury sent out the challenge to all students at the school during the COVID lockdown of 2021; to spend quality time with their family creating their favourite home recipes. Families were then asked to write up and submit their favourite recipes, accompanied by their memories and thoughts about why this recipe means so much to them. The recipes sent in were amazingly eclectic and demonstrated what a wonderfully culturally diverse school family we are. The memories and thoughts are both happy and poignant as many remember loved ones they could no longer see. Over 50 recipes and stories are shared in this colourful recipe book which has been published for everyone in the school and the wider community to enjoy. All profits from the sale of the cook book go to the PTA who raise funds for the benefit of all the students at Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy, and the Home-Start Erewash charity.

Cook's Illustrated Revolutionary Recipes
On the occasion of Cook's Illustrated's 25th anniversary, we've gathered together our most ground-breaking recipes and extraordinary innovations from the past quarter century. This collection of 180 recipes and essays offers an unparalleled window into what makes Cook's Illustrated America's most trusted cooking magazine. Anyone who has ever made a recipe from Cook's Illustrated knows that we do things differently. Our testing leaves no culinary stone unturned, and this has led to some pretty surprising discoveries. This book is built upon those: recipes that are not just foolproof but have changed the way America cooks. Examples range from hard-boiled eggs that aren't actually boiled to perfectly pan-seared steaks that start in the oven, plus secret ingredients ranging from baking soda to dried milk powder to gelatin. We've made international favorites like Dolsot Bibimbap accessible for the home kitchen by cooking ours family-style in a Dutch oven, but we've also challenged traditional wisdom on the simplest fare like whole roast chicken; ours is butterflied and cooked under the broiler for chicken perfection in under an hour. Alongside these recipes and many more we've included the smart, funny essays that detail the fascinating path of how each recipe came to be, complete with bursts of insight and wrong turns, plus sidebars, helpful illustrations, and gorgeous full-page photos, all to tell the story of what Cook's Illustrated does best.

A Dutch oven is the most versatile pot in your kitchen: a soup pot, a deep fryer, a braiser, a roaster, an enclosed bread oven, and the perfect vessel for one-dish meals. Let America's Test Kitchen help you make the most of yours with an abundance of creative and approachable recipes tailored to these all-in-one pots. Don't relegate your prized pot to the back of the cabinet, or save it only for cold-weather stews. Learn how to put your Dutch oven to work every day in so many different ways. Turn out practical yet fun weeknight meals made entirely in one pot, such as Easy Chicken Tacos; Vegetable Shabu-Shabu with Sesame Sauce; and Lamb Meatballs with Orzo, Tomatoes, and Feta. A Dutch oven is ideal for impressive roasts and braises such as Harissa-Rubbed Turkey Breast with Mashed Sweet Potatoes and Braised Short Ribs with Wild Mushroom Farrotto, since it can go seamlessly from stovetop to the oven and maintains steady heat to ensure food cooks perfectly. The enamelled surface makes it easy to create flavorful fond without burning. We'll even walk you through deep frying at home, so you can make perfect Korean Fried Chicken Wings and pub-style Fish and Chips. Plus, a Dutch oven can turn you into an artisanal bread baker overnight (the humid, closed environment produces loaves sporting an airy interior and shatteringly crisp crust). And a range of appealing desserts, from Pear-Ginger Crisp (the pot holds a generous 5 pounds of pears) to Bourbon-Pecan Bread Pudding, benefit from the Dutch oven's high sides and even heating.

Cook's Endeavour: Voyage to Botany Bay

Cook's Endeavour: Voyage to Botany Bay

This is history as you long to read it, charismatic, concise and unputdownable. - HORATIO CLARELike Sir Francis Drake and Lord Horatio Nelson in Kevin Jackson's acclaimed maritime history series, Captain James Cook was also born of humble means. The son of a Scottish farm labourer and a mother from Yorkshire, Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager on June June 1755, and would go on from his humble beginnings to become an explorer, master navigator, cartographer and one of the most celebrated naval Captains in British history. Cook's Endeavour is Jackson's masterful chronicle of Captain Cook's first Pacific Ocean voyage; a landmark journey which resulted in the mapping of largely uncharted areas of New Zealand and Australia, first encounters with aboriginal tribes and leaps and bounds in botanical discovery. Aboard the Endeavour, Cook mapped a whole new world. But Cook's historic journey was not without tribulation, or without challenge - the famed botanist Joseph Banks, Cook's contemporary and natural science expert on the Endeavour, was everything Cook was not; dapper, aristocratic, awarded with instantaneous fame for his discoveries in the aptly named Botany Bay. Cook's Endeavour is the thrilling and inspiring story of a boy, lured in his youth to the sea, who became a man forever synonymous with discovery, legacy and adventure.

Cook For Your Gut Health

Cook with flavor and flair (and ease) with nutritious, high-fiber meals that promote gut health, including 60 completely low-FODMAP recipes. There's good reason to eat with your gut in mind. A healthy gut optimizes digestion, but that's not where it ends; it's vital to helping us absorb nutrients, and plays a role in supporting our immunity and emotional health. We went to the kitchen to develop a collection of easy, satisfying ways to get in the vibrant vegetables, hearty grains, and optimal fiber that support the gut in meals like Eggs with Sweet Potato and Swiss Chard Hash, Halibut Miso Dashi Soup, and Turkey Meatballs with Lemony Brown Rice and Sun-Dried Tomatoes. These ATK recipes use only low-lactose dairy (but you can also make any recipe dairy-free) and can all be wheat-free (or even gluten-free): we focus on ancient grains in dishes like Quinoa Granola with Sesame Seeds and Curried Millet Pilaf, and offer gluten-free substitutions, if you need them, for good-for-you whole grains like barley, farro, and freekeh. In addition to 60 recipes that naturally fit low-FODMAP guidelines (the medically backed diet for common gut disorders like IBS), a grand majority of the remaining recipes provide customization instruction so you can adapt them to be low-FODMAP as well. That means every recipe has an answer to the way your gut tells you to eat. Whether you're trying to calm occasional gastrointestinal symptoms, are among the 1 in 5 Americans who suffer from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or simply seek to nourish yourself with whole foods, this book's for you.
