A Creative Approach to Teaching Rhythm and Rhyme
A Creative Approach to Teaching Rhythm and Rhyme is a book about using words, sounds, echoes, patterns and rhythm in the primary classroom. It is a book about hearing the poems found in football chants, nursery rhymes, radio jingles, TV adverts, raps and tabloid headlines. Most importantly, it is a book about celebrating the music of everyday speech. This is a practical guide for primary teachers to develop pupils' speaking and listening skills – their use of anticipation and memory and their ability to enjoy language and participate in its common music. It features practical warm-up sessions, games, models, templates and examples to help pupils to become readers, writers and confident speakers through the lively practice of rhythm and rhyme.

Working out what is really important, and then how to spend as much time as you can on those things, is what life is all about, and it’s what this book is all about. We all have the same issues with our time: interruptions, the temptation to do fun things instead of work, the temptation to multi-task, the tyranny of the urgent, and the tug of war between our own goals and those of other people. So, what is the best use of our time? Given all the tools available and the complexity of our lives, what should we use our precious minutes for? This boils down to only two questions really: what should we do first, and how long should we spend on it? In this book I have covered the whole spectrum from the big picture. What is the point of time management? Should you have a ‘to do’ list or put everything in your calendar? What can you do if you get too many emails each day? Everything that you need to know about time is in here. This book is a guide to help you to think about your life at the moment, and to help you to improve it. This is really a book about success. But success does not necessarily mean money or ambition, in fact it should really be success on your terms. It could mean: • quality of life • peace of mind • having as much fun as possible • experiencing better personal relationships with others • achieving the things you want to achieve. To succeed in any of these, time management is vitally important. It is perhaps the single biggest ingredient in achieving a lifestyle you are happy with.

Performer, activist, and writer Jill Johnston was a major queer presence in the history of dance and 1970s feminism. She was the first critic to identify postmodernism’s arrival in American dance and was a fierce advocate for the importance of lesbians within feminism. In Jill Johnston in Motion, Clare Croft tracks Johnston’s entwined innovations and contributions to dance and art criticism and activism. She examines Johnston’s journalism and criticism-in particular her Village Voice columns published between 1960 and 1980-and her books of memoir and biography. At the same time, Croft attends to Johnston’s appearances as both dancer and audience member and her physical and often spectacular participation at feminist protests. By bringing together Johnston’s criticism and activism, her writing and her physicality, Croft emphasizes the effect that the arts, particularly dance, had on Johnston’s feminist thinking in the 1970s and traces lesbian feminism’s roots in avant-garde art practice.
