Port ElginOriginally, the village of Port Elgin was named Normanton. In 1873, the community was named after James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin, a former Governor-General of the Province of Canada. In the 1990s, Port Elgin was merged into the town of Saugeen Shores. Port Elgin is close to MacGregor Point Provincial Park and Southampton in Bruce County; the community has several beaches on Lake Huron. In 1854, Benjamin Shantz acquired a sawmill on Mill Creek from George Butchart. Nearby he built a gristmill and within three years a community of 250 people developed around these mills. Stores, hotels and tanneries were built and a village plot for Port Elgin was laid out in 1857. Businessmen Henry Hilker, Samuel Bricker, and John Stafford contributed to the development of the settlement. The original economic development of Port Elgin during the 19th century was based on its harbour facilities on Lake Huron constructed in 1857-1858. This made the village a distribution centre for the surrounding agricultural region. The arrival of the Wellington, Grey and Bruce Railway in 1872 further stimulated the growth of the community. The increasing urbanization of Ontario and the increased importance of the road network for transporting goods resulted in a declining economy and population. More recently, recreation and the nearby Bruce Nuclear Generating Station have dominated the local economy. The Port Elgin and North Shore Railway is a two foot (610 mm) narrow gauge heritage railway. The railway operates excursion trains along the beach on a one-mile route in downtown Port Elgin. The round trip takes about twenty minutes.HepworthHepworth is located at the base of the Bruce Peninsula, on Highway 6 east of Sauble Beach.Sauble BeachSauble Beach is a resort community on the eastern shore of Lake Huron. The beach is seven miles long.Shallow LakeShallow Lake is located on Highway 6 south and east of Hepworth.

ChatsworthChatsworth is located on the Toronto-Sydenham Road, Highway 10, south of Owen Sound (formerly called Sydenham). The northern terminus of the early colonization road, The Toronto-Sydenham Road, was located near here at its junction with the Garafraxa Road. Free grants of fifty acre lots were given to persons fulfilling the settlement duties, and by 1851 about four hundred families had moved here.DornochThe village of Dornoch is located about 11 kilometers north of the Town of Durham on Highway 6 in Grey County. It is part of Chatsworth Township. Dornoch is 11 kilometers south of Williamsford and 33 kilometers south of Owen Sound.Dornoch was settled by Bartholomew Griffin in 1841. The area was originally called "Griffin's Corners". Griffin started the first general store. The village is primarily a small farming community, but has a convenience store that is known for its photography and ice cream, a community hall, as well as the recently rebuilt Dawg House Inn.Creek Bank and GoldstoneMapleton is a township in Wellington County; the township was formed by the amalgamation of the townships of Maryborough and Peel, and the village of Drayton on January 1, 1999. The township also contains the smaller communities of Creek Bank, and Goldstone, to name just two of them.

Across the red drifts and mail-clad forms, two figures glared at each other. In that utter desolation only they moved. The frosty sky was over them, the white illimitable plain around them, the dead men at their feet. Slowly through the corpses they came, as ghosts might come to a tryst through the shambles of a dead world. In the brooding silence they stood face to face. Both were tall men, built like tigers. Their shields were gone, their corselets battered and dinted. Blood dried on their mail; their swords were stained red. Their horned helmets showed the marks of fierce strokes. One was beardless and black maned. The locks and beard of the other were red as the blood on the sunlit snow.

Taramis, Queen of Khauran, awakened from a dream-haunted slumber to a silence that seemed more like the stillness of nighted catacombs than the normal quiet of a sleeping place. She lay staring into the darkness, wondering why the candles in their golden candelabra had gone out. A flecking of stars marked a gold-barred casement that lent no illumination to the interior of the chamber. But as Taramis lay there, she became aware of a spot of radiance glowing in the darkness before her. She watched, puzzled. It grew and its intensity deepened as it expanded, a widening disk of lurid light hovering against the dark velvet hangings of the opposite wall. Taramis caught her breath, starting up to a sitting position. A dark object was visible in that circle of light-a human head.
